Programme overview

• 16-week full-time programme speed your way into the New Zealand Diploma in Architectural Technology*, New Zealand Diploma in Construction*, or Bachelor of Construction (*cross-credits available into these programmes meaning you won’t need to gain as many credits to get your qualification).

This programme is ideal if you want to go on to higher level study in construction at Unitec. You’ll gain the literacy and math requirements, as well as learn the basic construction principles needed for entry into our construction programmes. When you graduate, you can apply for further study in:

• Tailored for Unitec’s construction programmes meaning the content is highly relevant to the programme you want to enter. • As a student in this programme, you’ll be part of a construction student body - learning alongside other aspiring construction managers, property developers and quantity surveyors. • A mix of classroom sessions, practical activities, guest speakers, discussions, presentations and online learning. • A chance to engage with Unitec’s marae, a great setting to explore mātarangi Māori and the role of culture in communication.

• Bachelor of Construction (Construction Economics, Construction Management, or Property Development): you’ll need a B- average or above to apply for any major in this programme • New Zealand Diploma in Construction: you can apply for this programme and, gain up to 30 cross-credits • New Zealand Diploma in Architectural Technology: you can apply for this programme and gain up to 30 cross-credits

12 credits at NCEA Level 1 or above in English

• Provide evidence that you satisfy our criteria for existing English proficiency, such as IELTS • Achieved at least one English proficiency outcome in the last two years • The New Zealand Certificate in English Language Level 3 (Applied). If you don’t meet the English criteria above, we have a range of English Language programmes available. There are additional English requirement for international students – you can find more information on our website.

• A relevant qualification at Level 3 or above on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework or equivalent.

Admission requirements

• Equivalent credits from appropriate trades training and/or demonstrated skills and experience.

For this programme, you’ll need:

Academic 1. 48 credits at NCEA Level 2 from four subjects including: • 12 credits in Mathematics - preferably achievement standards in algebra, calculus or trigonometry • 10 English credits at level 1 or higher 2. Four years’ secondary education 3. To be 16 years old by the time the programme starts

English Applicants will need one or more of the following:

• A B- average or above in the New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 3) Engineering pathway (FSTU 3926 Identity and Communication, FSTU 3922 Physics, FSTU3914 Maths Algebra, FSTU3912 Intro to Algebra). • Attend a Skills Review session where your literacy and numeracy levels will be assessed.
