WHAT’S BREWING AT UNITED? DECEMBER 2016 EDITION

DECEMBER 2016 CRAFT BREWS AND NEWS WELCOME BACK! Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. We have a lot going on to close the year and lead into 2017. New Belgium is redoing their entire Ranger, Rampant, and Slow Ride brands and will be launching the Voodoo Ranger series. This is going to be huge! Very similar to the Rebel series launched by Sam Adams. We’ve tried the new brews and they are excellent. We think we have the best winter portfolio out there with Great Lakes Christmas Ale leading the charge. Make sure you ask your salesmen about availability on this bad boy as supply is limited. Make sure you stay warm and from everyone here at United….HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Cheers! The Craft Team

SHOUT OUT TO JEFF AND ANTHONY ON THIS GOOD LOOKIN OB DISPLAY. IF YOU LIKE WHAT YOU SEE, ASK YOUR SALESMEN ABOUT ALL THE GREAT ITEMS OUR BREWERS MAKE THAT WILL HELP YOU SELL MORE BEER!!!

BALLAST POINT MANTA RAY

MANTA RAY DOUBLE IPA We’ve developed many IPA recipes in our R&D program, but right from the tank, our Manta Ray Double IPA was a winner. Aromas of fresh, citrusy tangerine, melon and light pine leap from the beer and linger over a smooth finish. Like its namesake, this brew can sneak up on you - a big ABV without a bite.

FOOTHILLS HOP OF THE MONTH SIMCOE DOUBLE IPA

Simcoe Double IPA THE SERIES

We pick a hop each month and, using its distinct flavor and aroma traits, brew a style of beer uniquely suited to accentuate those traits.

THE BEER

Simcoe is well-known to Foothills fans-it’s the primary flavoring hop in our flagship IPA, Hoppyum. Resinous and piney, Simcoe retains plenty of fruit aroma and flavor to go with its woody, musky foundation. Its complexity is best showcased in beers like this, our first Double IPA in the series.

BALLAST POINT RED VELVET

RED VELVET ON NITRO GOLDEN OATMEAL STOUT WITH BEETS & CHOCOLATE Our Red Velvet oatmeal stout is a mindbending beer. Like the cake that inspired it, the deep red color comes from beets, which add a rich, earthy character that complements the chocolate flavor and aroma. The foamy head of the nitro pour is our “icing,” adding a creamy smoothness to the mouthfeel. But this liquid dessert still finishes like a beer – not sweet, but just as satisfying.

BALLAST POINT CINNAMON RAISON COMMODORE

AMERICAN STOUT WITH CINNAMON AND RAISIN Our Cinnamon Raisin Commodore is truly a story of experimentation. Originally a gold-medal winning American stout first born in our R&D program, our brewers developed a new variation, adding cinnamon and raisins to this dark, bittersweet brew. The result is just the right amount of sweet and spice, with roasty maltiness at the helm.

BOULEVARD COLLAB 6 (FIRESTONE WALKER)

S M O K E S TA C K S E R I E S - L I M I T E D R E L E A S E

COLLABORATION NO. 6

Our collaboration series of beers has allowed us to work (and drink) with some of our favorite people in the beer industry who brew fantastic beers. We’ve been lucky enough to brew with Jean-Marie Rock from Orval, Larry Sidor and Deschutes Brewing Company, Dann and Martha of Pretty Things Beer & Ale Project, our sister brewery, Phil Leinhart and Brewery Ommegang and most recently with Cigar City Brewing’s Wayne Wambles. We’ve held the beers of Firestone Walker’s Brewmaster Matt Brynildson in very high regard for many years. When we learned that Firestone Walker would be joining the Duvel Moortgat family of breweries, we immediately knew who we wanted our Collaboration No. 6 partner to be. Firestone Walker has a tradition of inviting local wine-making friends into their brewery each year to collaborate on a blending project that results in their anniversary ale. Pulling from several barrel-aged beers, they tinker with different blending percentages to create an incredibly complex, yet unique beer. In this spirit, we invited Matt Brynildson into our barrel-aging cave to taste beers with Boulevard Brewmaster Steven Pauwels. Armed with their palates, some graduated cylinders, nearly two dozen tulip glasses and a few bottles of Firestone Walker’s barrel-aged beers, they spent the afternoon tinkering with different blending percentages before finally deciding on just the right blend. In addition to pulling beer from our barrel collection, we’re going to brew, ferment and age Firestone Walker beers at Boulevard in Kansas City using recipes created by Matt and his team in Paso Robles to complete the final blend.
