From the Publisher

Dear Readers, You probably all know the quote „Use it or lose it“. Last month I talked about changes. In our case, change is a continuous development. In June 2012 we started with an idea of an international magazine. Now looking back after 300 days we can say that this was the right decision! Please allow me now to give you a little preview into the next six months: 1. Since last week our new shop system is online. You can purchase single copies, as well as our various subscriptions online. You should take the time and have a look!! Visit the store at http://www.unitednetworkershop.com/ 2. Having had a number of discussions we decided to program our own electronic version of the United Networker Magazine. The launch of this brand new system will take place by the end of April. You can expect some exciting information and you should look forward to it!! 3. As we officially announced in March, we are in the pre-launch phase of the Russian-language magazine. The first stage will be released as an “ePaper” format and then later in printed form. Again, the preparations are in full swing. Our russian readers should be looking for this edition!! 4. Next to these changes I can already tell you that we are working on another language which we believe is indispensable for the Network Marketing World. By introducing “ePaper” and adding additional languages, we will be in the right position to be the best medium keeping you informed about the industry with the ultimate goal to assist you in expanding your business far beyond your personal goals! The current cover story gives you a glimpse into the global market and events. You should get ready for some big numbers! I hope you enjoy reading this edition of United Networker Magazine. God bless you! Sincerely Markus Th. Ruediger - Publisher -

From the Industry Snow Volleyball Tour 2013 powered by Amway

For the second time in a row five renowned winter sport spots in the alps will host the Snow Volleyball Tour powered by Amway. From the beginning of March till the middle of April 2013 in Switzerland, Austria, Germany and Italy, fifty international Beach volleyball professionals from nine nations will fight for the title „King of the Tour 2013“. Three courts per venue will be available

for the athletes. The centre court will be situated at a scenic and wintery 2000m above sea level. The stadium capacity of the area amounts to 2000 people per location. The organizer of this event expects to reach the record number of approximately 5000 fans who came to the volleyball tour stop in Wagrain 2011, again this year. It`s not surprising that many international professional players consider these extreme sport events as their favourite tournament. Especially concerning the rapid development of this sport form we are faced with a positive trend. In November 2011 Snow Volleyball was announced as an official sport by the Austrian volleyball organisation (ÖVV) and it is excepted that further societies from the participating locations will follow. Match modus: The Snow Volleyball Tour 2013 powered by Amway will be played by eight male only teams per court. The organizer fixes seven professional teams and one pair will get a wildcard, which will be awarded on the first match day among all participants in “Single Elemination”. For the semi-finals two groups of four will play on the main court, consequently followed by the Grand Finale.

The news was buoyed by the recent release of the company’s 2012 fourth quarter sales bringing ViSalus’ total 2012 annual sales to $623 million, which represents growth of 171% from 2011. Unicity‘s Reward Trip to Dubai Unicity’s Make Life Better Rewards Trip in Dubai was packed full of great experiences, fun excursions, and powerful leadership training. Unicity distributors from all over Europe traveled to Dubai for an allexpenses-paid vacation, and enjoyed every moment of the four-day, three-night trip. On Thursday, Unicity distributors started the day with a leadership training by top leaders. Everyone then went on a desert safari tour where they drove over sand dunes in SUVs. The ride was an exciting adventure with many steep turns and hills. The next day, the group enjoyed a day trip to Abu Dhabi—going to Ferrari World where they enjoyed riding roller coasters, looking at exotic cars, and relaxing next to a racetrack. Another highlight from the trip was ascending to the observatory deck of the tallest building in the world: the Burj Khalifa. From there, it felt as though we were as mingling with the jets as they flew across the sky. In addition to the excitement of the excursions, there was a closing reception and dinner on the palm island. The venue was wonderful, the food was delicious, and the company of people was great! It was a perfect ending to a great trip in Dubai. Unicity deeply values all Unicity distributors and organizes these trips to recognize them and their accomplishments, and to help them feel appreciated for the hard work they do each day in trying to Make Life Better for others around the world.

Current Situation

The world is a commercial society with people buying and selling products around the clock thanks to the global marketplace and structure of the Internet. There are different techniques used for selling products, but so far, direct selling has proven to be the best. Consumers like one-to-one interactions. They are personable and they allow relationship building. Direct sellers have the opportunity to do what no one else can do and that includes bonding with their client, defining their needs and providing them with personalized solutions for their problems. This is why direct selling still remains number one all over the world. In a society where everything is based on numbers and people are forced to interact with machines on a daily basis, salespeople have become one of the most critical factors for driving production and market revenues. In fact, direct sellers are responsible for up to 90 percent of the world’s retail sales. This is an astounding and remarkable figure when taken into consideration. The countries surveyed in the recent analysis conducted by the WFDSA Global Research Sub-Committee, United States DSA Industry Research Committee, and Insights Lead and Consumer & Market Insights for Amway revealed that of the 22 countries surveyed, each produces more than $1 billion in sales each year. That is a tremendous amount of money and there is still potential for more.

Points to Ponder

This review brings to light many important considerations including the following: •

China is growing and making considerable strides in its growth which includes moving up in sales by nearly 50% to $12.5 billion dollars in recent years.

Several European nations are averaging direct sales in the amount of $3 billion dollars.

Brazil is responsible for maintaining the top four markets, including Peru.

South Korea is now averaging $12 billion per year.

The United States leads in sales at $29.9 billion.

Japan comes at a close second averaging $23.9 billion dollars in direct sales.

Venezuela experienced a 75.5 percent growth.

Malaysia experienced a 30.9 percent sales growth.

Globally, 76 percent of direct sellers use the person-to-person method when it comes approaching their customers successfully.

Approximately 18 percent use a party plan approach.

Overall, the direct selling industry is continuously growing. While in some areas the market may not be moving, the number of direct sellers is still growing according to industry executives. This will lead to changes

raining matters; observations, insights and experienced gained in the area of training. And also ‘matters’ as a verb, as in Training really matters.

Expand a person’s thinking and you have expanded his world. Ralph Waldo Emerson - „The mind, once stretched by a new idea, never returns to its original dimensions” A couple of simple examples: a child works out what a door handle does. Life is never the same again. A child works out that he can drag a chair to reach the cookies high up in the cupboard… A child works out how your iPhone works, you share your password to unlock it, you give him your iTunes credentials – don’t be surprised to find a £100 bill for ‘gems’ in a game you never downloaded. But never mind the bill, think instead about how the child’s mind has expanded. But the things I want to talk about with regard to training and especially training in direct selling are more profound than this. In the last article I wrote: “…training in direct selling is all about shifting people’s sense of what is possible, about what is important, and, finally, about who you are and what you are for. All of the things I have spoken about so far drives into this: if you shift a person’s sense of self, if you change his self-image, then you have changed the whole game. And this is what training in our industry has the potential to do. Take the scene that is such a common occurrence in our industry: a person has finally relented and is attending an opportunity meeting at the behest of a friend. This is not the first invitation he has received but this time he ran out of excuses, the stars were suddenly aligned just right, or he kind of thought that he ultimately had nothing to loose. For whatever reason, he is there. At the beginning of the meeting he made a mental pact with himself, ‘There is no way I am buying anything here tonight.’ He sat through the host introducing the evening’s proceedings. He chuckled

at the right places, nodded on cue almost despite himself, and reluctantly raised his hand a couple of times when the speakers asked questions. At the end of the product presentation he was more impressed than he would have guessed he would be. After the compensation plan part he could have been made to agree that it all kind of did make sense. And the company did seem to be fairly OK. When the final speaker comes on, to do a ‘training’, he is not sure if he is supposed to really be here – maybe this part is really for distributors in the company. The speaker is well dressed, seems very at ease with speaking to a relatively large crowd, is surprisingly polished and actually quite funny. And despite himself, our guest is taking it all in. The trainer is talking about things that make obvious sense, almost homespun truths in some cases, but other things are really making our guest think. At the end of the training, our guest is giving a sincere standing ovation, the same as everyone else. Imagine that we interviewed him afterward: “Did you enjoy the trainer?” “Yes, very much.” “What did you enjoy the most?”

“But motivational?” “Yes, very much. I guess he reminded me that I don’t have limitations. Except those I accept myself!” He paused and laughed. “He said that, didn’t he!?” Maybe he did and maybe he didn’t, but the point I am making about all of this is that in our industry, which is an industry where you can build something extraordinary even if you are ordinary, the first thing we have to do is inspire the people. We have to remind them that life can be amazing. We reconfirm that this life is an adventure. We champion the belief that you are amazing. We challenge the status quo, we shake the bonds of lethargy and unconscious acceptance of limitation, and we unequivocally state that You Can Do It. Whatever it is that you want to do, you can. Whatever your dream is, you can have it. Looking at the process more closely, what happened with our guest is that he arrived with a set of beliefs and values, and indeed a sense of self, that was ‘abc’. After the trainer they were ‘ABC+’. He might have believed that direct selling was pyramid selling; he might have had judgements about it that only losers were involved, that it doesn’t work, that it in some way was illegal, immoral or both! His values may have been shifted. Instead of thinking ‘greed’ he may now be thinking ‘freedom’. Instead of acquiescing to limitations and being settled with his limited palette options in terms of work and career, maybe now he is inspired to look for more, look for bigger choices, and not settle for less than what he really wants. And so on. But most importantly, maybe the trainer managed to remind him of how much potential he has. Maybe the trainer managed to remind him that he was born courageous and creative. Maybe he remembered that he has a whole series of achievements already, that his life is already demonstrating accomplishments. And maybe, just maybe, our guest leaves the training asking himself, “What else could I do?” Emerson also said, “Where there is no vision a people perish.”

The vision I am interested of in the context of this article is of the inherent capability of the people in the audience. The great trainers, the people in our industry who do the road, who have paid the price travelling from training to training, who in meeting after meeting, large or small, in the flesh or online on countless webinars, what they are really doing is not “presenting an opportunity.” What they are really doing is expanding people’s self-image. They are reminding the audience that they, really, can do anything. They are reminding them that they were born with potential and that, no matter where you are, you have all the resources available to you to make a change. In that sense the trainer expands the audience mind. And of course, as we started this article, once expanded it cannot go back. A story I have often told is about that young man in Amsterdam who came up to me after the training, shook my had and said, “I think you have changed my life.” To this day, I think he was right (except that I was just the catalyst and he did all the work!) because what happened was that he experienced an expansion of self and possibilities. That change is permanent, similar to what happens when you hit the big pin. But we will talk that in the next article, if I make a link to training somehow! All good,

The real skills development

“Hmmm, hard to say, really. “ He is thinking about the question, mulling it over in his mind. “He made me think, really. I mean, it is not that he said anything I didn’t know already. More that he reminded me of things I have known all my life.”
