POWER NEWS THE FITTEST STRENGTH MAGAZINE ON EARTH™

Valdas Kazakevicius of England came in ”from the bushes” after being 4th in their nationals and almost forgot from the papers in the qualification he was solid in log, medium in deadlift and smoked the wins in frame and conan´s wheel. In qualifications he produced WR of 160kg in Ironmind Axle with last man standing style (120-130-140-150-160). Valdas also attempted 170kg but nearly missed the clean. The stone lift without tacky he tied the win with Janne Hartikainen and after arm over arm he knew what time was to beat in farmers hold to secure his spot as inaurugal

US 105kg STRONGMAN WORLD CHAMPION!!

YOUR REDSHIRT YEAR One fitness show, one shoot with a fitness photographer, and that is it. Okay, now what is the goal in these two things? There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end leads to death says a few trusted sources. Normally when we set fitness goals or any other type of goals for ourselves, these do not need to be accomplished by ourselves. Some of the worst decisions that we make are made in isolation. On the flip side, most of the best decisions that we make are usually brought into a community such as the ones in the publication that you are currently reading right now. Being from the United States of America, I will equate your health and fitness goals (whatever they are), to collegiate athletics. Furthermore, just for grins and the month we are in, let's stick to college football. " " Whenever someone wants to lose weight, eat right, compete, win a title, etc. etc. etc., what is the first thing that they need to do? Figure out how exactly that they are going to get to that goal. To take it a step further, the best athletes, personal trainers, laborers, businessmen, and entrepreneurs also have mini goals that accompany these big goals. Most important, these goals are not the end game, but they are the ways and means to bigger things than just themselves; the person and the goals that are being set forth. Being an overseas publication, you may or may not have much familiarity with the U.S. Government and how it operates, perhaps you may be more familiar with the House of Lords and House of Commons in Western Europe. Bicameral Legislature consists of the House of Representatives as well as the House of Senate. Think of your goals and the accomplishing thereof as the three branches of Government in the House of Representatives. When one has a goal, to illustrate the idea of how one goes about accomplishing it, the process is as follows: Legislative Branch: Write out what your goals are; mini goals, big goals, but most important SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time Specific). Alongside of these goals, there are also going to be antecedents and consequences. Antecedents are things that drive us towards wanting to achieve these goals before we even set forth to put these into action. Consequences are things in which may happen or sacrifices that we have to make, whether it is leaving what is comfortable, risking losing the support of loved ones, or even ones that are closest to us, or even risking death. Both of these factors have to be weighed out. Like the college athlete going from high school into this level of play, sometimes it is best for that athlete to take a redshirt year, to keep them from getting absolutely obliterated their first year. At the same time, they get to learn all of the facets of the game; the good, the bad, and the ugly. Believe you me, in this fitness industry, there is a whole lot of all three. Redshirts can get actual experience playing the sport that they are in for their first year, but it is limited if they are to keep that redshirt status. Executive Branch: Go to a community of people that not only are you close to in relation, but also to ones in which have either been in your position before, or even that have walked before you. This can be in any arena as well, and this is where the fitness industry misses connecting our industry with the real world, which I am very guilty of and am getting better in doing. Now that I still have your attention, those goals that you have set forth, what type of reaction are you getting? Are you getting open or closed ended questions? What is the tone like with who you are addressing? Will they set you up towards mini goals in which you will still keep you redshirt on for as long as you need to or will they set you up for utter failure or figurative death? Those antecedents or consequences, which ones outweigh the other right now and which ones could outweigh the other in the next five years and so on? If you have turned every stone in which you can turn and you have both support and critics, you are on the right track and this leads to..... Judicial Branch: Often we have to cut some people, places, and playgrounds out of our lives; but doing so as professionally as possible. Also, that redshirt that you may still have on, before you get into grave danger from a place, person, organization, or team that you do NOT want to be a part of, you can keep that redshirt for the rest of the year and you can “transfer to a place where you can thrive. However, usually there are times in which we do not set up aggressive goals for ourselves and those that we are in community with (not isolating here), will encourage us and spur us on to achieve our goals perhaps a bit quicker that....ALAS!!! That redshirt status is gone! Ask yourself since still reading, is your redshirt status this year necessary or are you waiting until the next year of 2014? Still reading aren't you?!?!? Take that redshirt off! Have a Happy Holidays! Owen D. Taylor III WBFF Mens' Fitness Competitor Team Quest Nutrition Sponsored Athlete Fitness Specialist-Gold's Gym Uptown Dallas, Texas U.S.A.

Kati Luoto is the US Strongwoman World Champion 2013

Kati was the only one to haul up the big 105kg stone to her lap without tacky, but even she did not got it over the bar, so the competitors had to have a re-run with 75kg stone.

2012 Champions Kristin Rhodes had a little bad start in the frame and hunted Kati all the way to the last event, where they were face to face battling out and Kristen lost the title with the narrowest possible markinals...Comeback 2014 Kristen? Finland´s newcomer Annina Vaaranmaa (down photo) took home the event wins in the arm over arm and farmers hold with nearly one minute time while holding 105kg in each hand. The ladies competition in overall was really tight, too and there was several new WR´s generated in the competition like Niina Jumppanen´s dl of 9x190kg and Kristin´s Ironmind Axle (last woman standing c&j) with 100kg along with many other top performances.

QUEEN OF THE CASTLE™ 2014 US Strongwoman Scandinavian Championships 2014 Under 70kg and Open Class 3rd annual Queen of the Castle™ competition will be held in front of the Aulanko Spa Hotel, next to lake Vanajavesi in Hämeenlinna on Friday evening of 9th, May 2014. As a new part -70kg class in included to the show and both classes are doing the events with the same weights and the points are calculated only in total. After the comp. the best placing -70kg is crowned as a winner for the lw class, but this way they have also the opportunity to challenge the open girls, too. The events are planned to be semi-heavy to fit both classes and the event list will be announced in January. The winners of each class are awarded with traditional desing plates - desinged by Tapio Wirkkala along with other valuable product prizes. The competition will be also the opener for the first Häme Sport Festival, what continues the next day in Verkatehdas arts and congress centre in Hämeenlinna. TOP3 from last years QC-competition are having automatic invitations to the 2014 competition along with 2013 national champions in under and over 70kg category in Finland, Sweden and Norway. There will be also 4 spots open to each class for other competitors from Scandinavian countries, who are open to make an email application to info@unitedstrongmen.com. The entry fee to the competition is 40€ (including vat.) and it includes VIP-ticket to Saturdays happening to the athlete and coach. The competitors are responsible for their own travel, hotel and food expenses. In the photo top3 from 2013 QC competition: Kati Luoto, Anki Öberg and Annina Saine.

United Strongmen® is proud to introduce it´s co-operation with www.dopinglinkki.fi/about to take the step forward on supporting cleaner strength sports. We feel, that many times there´s talks about how the strength competitions should be under doping testing, but as the events are relatively small and without proper "roof-organizations" the testing is very difficult to do with it being credible. So, as a first step of making the action credible along with carrying our responsibility towards all athletes specially the young ones, who are aiming to be strength athletes we have signed educational co-operation with Dopinglinkki: The Dopinglinkki net service provides information and expert advice on doping issues. It is intended for fitness enthusiasts who use doping substances, their family members and friends, and professionals from different fields who meet users of doping substances in their work. The service is produced by the A-Clinic Foundation of Finland and it has the contents in English, Russian, Swedish and Finnish. Dopinglinkki is funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Finland (2009–2012), Ministry of Social Affairs and Health in Finland (2009, 2011 and 2012) and Finland’s Slot Machine Association RAY (2010). The service is being developed together with the Finnish Antidoping Agency FINADA and the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL). As a part of the co-operation Dopinglinkki will have a stand in our biggest happenings in Finland to be able to reach the fans/athletes personally also along with net services. What makes this co-operation a little special? In for example regular expos the Dopinglinkki is treated as any advertiser - they need to buy the stand. As a support to good matter and a proof that we care about the sport more than the money we sponsor the stands in our happenings for free to Dopinglinkki.

Heroes Among Us Strength vs. Strong By Gillian Faith Mcrae https://www.facebook.com/ItsNotWhatYouWeigh?fref=ts

Wayne Gretzy has been touted “The Great One”, Muhammad Ali “The Greatest” and many others considered to simply be the BEST! What gives these athletes their titles, the acclaim they seem worthy to have been esteemed with? Respectfully acknowledging the great pleasure I have had as a new strength athlete in this community of amazing athletes, I can’t help but ask. What makes others Great and others not as Great? Why is it that some seem to get recognition and fan fare, while those who are putting in the same effort quietly and diligently, plodding away to achieve the same results do not ask for or wish to receive public gratification. Of course this could be challenged with the rebuttal, “Each to their own”. Some want the attention while others do not and yet when I think of the strength community and the many who have come from places with stories much like my own I think of the many of who have yet to take the platform or carry the yoke. Does this make them any less strong? Or do they exhibit less strength as a result of not being with the STRONGEST of men and women at events or perhaps in the inner circle quite yet? My personal experience having been successful at losing the 100lbs I have and going on to win a title, is that with determination, commitment and relentless focus is that this will last. Reason being you are not doing it for the glory of others, or with the aspirations, those with true strength over being the strongest will time and time again demonstrate resilience and integrity. These are the Mother Theresa’s and the Martin Luther Kings, or in todays society Strongman Justin Sulham of Boston founded 50 Closer to The Cure to raise funds for charities around the Nation helping those with life threatening illnesses. Or Karen McCoy a natural strength athlete, personal trainer and author takes most pride in her role as Mom to her son who lives with muscular dystrophy. She dedicates each show to him and shares that true strength is not measured by one’s muscle; it is measured by the heart. This is the strength from within that time and time again will alter the life course of those watching, as a direct result of the actions and behaviors they see in a great role model. This person demonstrates strength in character, adversity, barriers to success, and when the world says they can’t, they say WATCH ME! In my opinion this is the definition of a real Hero. So for those athletes who are able to lift with both heart and their muscles, I commend you for this and raise my hands to the real Heroes Among Us.
