WITH MISTER + MRS. SHARP
Tell me about your design firm. How long have you been in business? We are a husband-and-wife team that lead a group of designers based in Atlanta. We formally started our company in 2015.
At what moment, or in what experience, did you decide to become interior designers?
When we got married, we discovered our mutual love for creating a beautiful home. We started flipping our own houses. We moved 10 times in a dozen years! Eventually friends started asking for help and then friends became clients, etc.
Tell us a little bit about the RUE/Serenbe project. What was the biggest challenge in the design of the space?
The Rue House at Serenbe project came to us through the publishers of RUE. We live in Serenbe so it was a great fit. We love a modern home but like to keep it warm, so we challenged ourselves to warm up the clean lined, modern structure as much as possible with every design decision.
The home gives off calm vibes, but upon inspection, there are lots of patterns involved in hard and soft materials. How did you pull that off? The patterns are all natural and neutral and textural. When patterns are as they appear in nature, it’s not difficult to make them work together and still have a relaxing space.
Why did you choose Universal Furniture as your partner for this project? Universal Furniture is a great go-to for modern furnishings that are both comfortable and stylish. We immediately gravitated toward all the textures and colors that are readily available.
How long have you been a customer of Universal Furniture? How were you introduced to the brand? We’ve been using Universal for a few years now. We were originally introduced to the brand when we used the outdoor collection for another project in Serenbe. We used Universal exclusively for an outdoor living room and dining room at a home with expansive patios.
Who has been your greatest mentor? We’ve been fortunate to have many influences. Mark D Sikes is an old friend, and his talent and work ethic
have been very influential. He’s also generously helped with details of owning a firm.
What makes Universal stand out among other furnishing partners? The expansive selection of furniture and in-house fabrics with quick turn arounds.
Do you have some favorite pieces or collections from Universal? Why do they get your vote?
The New Modern Collection has so many beautiful pieces. The silhouettes of the upholstery and the stone selections are inspired.
At the heart of the Dwell Collection is its architectural influence, drawing from iconic elements in homes and buildings across the country.
