An exciting story for descendants and forensic genealogists: Human skeletal remains recovered from the Whydah pirate ship that went down in 1717 are being examined by forensic scientists in the Henry C. Lee College to track down living relatives. Scientists are analyzing the DNA in pursuit of the ship’s pirate captain, Samuel “Black Sam” Bellamy, named by Forbes magazine as the richest pirate in history. Some families out there may soon have boasting rights to a much more dramatic history than they previously imagined.
