Welcome to the spring term career guide Many final year and penultimate year students will be applying and being interviewed for either placements or graduate opportunities this term. The Careers Centre is offering a range of workshops and events to support students with this. If you are still unsure what you want to do when you finish university or if you are keen to explore your options further, we are offering other sessions that may interest you and of course we have a duty Careers Adviser available Monday to Friday. Please see our website for the full programme including the weekly CV workshops you can sign up for online. Wednesday 16 RED Award sign off session 1pm–2.30pm Palmer Building Room G01 For RED Awarders who have completed the three components of the scheme. This session will evaluate the skills you have developed as part of the RED Award and how best to present them to employers. Register online via the RISIS web portal. Monday 21 Sell your skills to employers: Science & Life Sciences 1pm–1.50pm Carrington Building Room 101 How to market your science skills towards employers and convince them you have the skills and attributes they want. This session will focus on the skills you have to offer and how you can demonstrate them on application forms and at interviews, so you can be successful in getting the job you want. This session is for Science and Life Sciences students only.

Mock interviews with Thales 10am–4.00pm Careers Centre, Carrington Building Sign up at the Careers Centre reception desk These half hour mock interviews will provide you with an opportunity to practise your interview technique and receive feedback from a graduate recruiter on how to improve your performance. Please bring a copy of your CV to the Careers Centre reception desk to book your place, and to receive the mock job description which will help you to prepare for the session. These sessions book up quickly, so sign up early to avoid disappointment.

Mock interviews with Associated British Food 1pm–4.00pm Careers Centre, Carrington Building Sign up at the Careers Centre reception desk These half hour mock interviews will provide you with an opportunity to practise your interview technique. The Graduate Recruitment Manager at ABF will provide hints and tips to help improve your performance – this will be especially beneficial for those students interested in applying to ABF graduate schemes (Supply Chain, Technical, Sales and Marketing), but is open to any student looking to gain experience of graduate interviews. March Friday 1 International students, placements and paid work, know your rights! 1pm–2.00pm Carrington Building Room 101 This session is for international students who are unsure of their rights to work in the UK whilst studying. Matt Daley, the International Student Advisor from Student Services, will give a clear overview of international students’ eligibility to do a placement as part of their degree programme, as well as during their own time in term and vacation.
CV workshops The Careers, Placement and Experience Centre runs CV workshops every week designed to improve your CV. You can attend either the finalist workshop if you are applying for a graduate job or the work experience/placement workshop if you are looking to improve your chances of getting an interview for a work experience. You must sign up online for one of these workshops and you must bring your CV with you to the session.
