Where to study and unwind on campus

There are plenty of great study and hangout spots across our campuses that you can use all year round;

− Hartley Library, Highfield Campus

− Health Services Library at Southampton General Hospital

− Winchester School of Art (WSA) Library

− National Oceanography Centre (NOCS) Library

− Sir James Matthews (SJM) building in Southampton City Centre

The Student Hub provides support and study spaces at SJM and B37 on Highfield Campus, with comfy surroundings. Building 100 at Highfield also has plenty of study spaces with great views of the city. Check the campus map for more study and social spots.

Study tips and support

The Library and Academic Skills Hub offers a variety of resources to help you study smart, including guidance on how to prepare for exams. The team also provides drop-in sessions throughout the year, whether you need help or advice on writing, maths and statistics or academic skills in general.

Keep in mind

Academic Responsibility and Conduct

Academic responsibility and conduct involve acting with honesty and accountability in one’s academic work. This is important throughout university life and is essential to keep in mind during your exams and assessments.

Using Generative AI (GenAI)

You are allowed to use GenAI tools like ChatGPT to develop your learning and support your studies. However, you should never submit work that has been created or part-created by GenAI for assessments that you claim as your own work. Check the guidance on GenAI: go.soton.ac.uk/gn5

Check our student exams site to keep up to date with exams and assessments news. You can also find exam tips, including what you need to do before and after your exams, what you need to bring, as well as helpful videos and information on exam locations.

If things do not go to plan

If you are unable to attend an exam or assessment due to an illness or other exceptional circumstances, the Special Considerations process is your way to let us know.
