Taking Care of the Browns. Taking Care of You

When it comes to football in Cleveland, University Hospitals shares its passions with the Cleveland Browns for healthy players and a strong community connection. 2019 marked UH's sixth year as the Official Medical Partner of the Cleveland Browns, solidifying our commitment toward the goal of keeping the team – as well as staff and their families – healthy and strong.

As lead team physician of the Cleveland Browns, James Voos, MD, Jack and Mary Herrick Distinguished Chair in Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, ensures that the same level of care for professional players extends to all local athletes – from pee-wee to pro.

“Providing care for professional athletes requires our UH team to stay current on the most innovative and advanced treatments for injuries,” said Dr. Voos. “The coordination of care for our professional athletes has translated to all of our patients – whether an adolescent, weekend warrior or professional – to help them be at their best and navigate their injuries easily. UH has recruited top-notch clinical talent to Cleveland to support the Browns and our community.”

UH and the Cleveland Browns recently completed a first-of-itskind study in the NFL to predict the impact of training load on player injury, using GPS wearable technology. It is this level of commitment to injury prevention

that Cleveland Browns owner Dee Haslam said makes UH an excellent partner.

“We are proud to partner with UH and fortunate to have access to their esteemed team of doctors and the vast resources available in our hometown with an industry leader not only in Cleveland but throughout the nation,” she said. “UH consistently delivers exceptional care for our players and staff to help treat and prevent injuries, as well as works closely with our athletic training staff to ensure players are competing at peak performance levels.”

In 2019, UH partnered with the Cleveland Ballet, applying similar sports medicine philosophies to optimize the health and performance of dancers. UH also expanded its relationship with the Cleveland Monsters, our local hockey franchise, as their Official Medical Partner.
