Lifestyle change is a long term process that requires support and commitment. As nurses, we can make a huge impact on the lives of our patients as an advocate for change. How To Increase FRUIT AND VEGETABLES in the Diet? Fruit and vegetables add color, texture and flavor to any dish. Have a variety of fruits or vegetable with different colors. Different colors mean a combination of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
Try one new fruits or vegetable each week. Add chopped apples, bananas or dried fruits to cereals.
Have a piece of fruits with natural yoghurt instead of fruit yoghurt.
Include at least two variety of vegetables in your meals
Add tomato puree or chopped tomatoes as pasta sauce or in casseroles and stews.
Eat raw fruits and vegetables when possible as nutrients are sometimes lost during cooking. Avoid over- cooking.
Instead of boiling, try steaming, poaching or microwaving them. These methods reduce the amounts of lost nutrients.
When preparing sandwiches, try adding lettuce, cucumber, tomato or avocado to accompany fillings.
Encourage children to have fruits and vegetables as snacks instead of sweets.

Tips for Successful NURSE TO PATIENT CONVERSATIONS
Eating healthy is not always easy, but being committed to having a healthy diet can be one of the smartest decisions one can ever make in their lives. Talk to your patients and clients about healthy eating pattern. To prevent making your patients feel judged or criticized whenever you bring up healthy eating, here are ways on how to get the conversation started:
Let them feel that you’re on the same side. Don’t sound like you are criticizing or lecturing them; rather show your willingness to help them solve the problem.
Appreciate even the small successes. Cheer your patient for the steps they make towards healthier diet. If you notice any changes like improved blood pressure or weight loss then you can relate these changes to their improved diet.
Empathize with your patient. Changing their diet is not an easy task. Encourage your patient by offering ways to overcome challenges to make healthy changes.
For patient restricted to bed, their body needs lesser energy than it does when they are up and about. Collaborate their care with the dietician to assess their nutritional status and design their daily dietary plan.
