Anchoring a medical city of world-class partners: The life sciences cluster forming includes the UCF College of Medicine, VA Medical Center, Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute, M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and Nemours. Beating a 10-year projection by eight years: In just two years, 80 percent of the 10-year economic activity projection from the 2006 Milken Institute study has been committed. Paying the government back: By 2011, government revenue generated by UCF and Burnham will exceed government expenditures. Investing while others are cutting back: The conservative estimate of investment being made in the medical city is $2 billion. Making history: The UCF College of Medicine is the first medical school in U.S. history to offer full four-year scholarships to an entire class. Breaking statewide records: Two years in a row, the college received more applications than any public medical school in Florida.

Attracting world-class faculty: The college has over 200 full-time faculty and staff members and more than 1,200 volunteer and affiliate faculty members and joint appointments. Impacting the economy: A 2008 economic impact study says, by 2017, up to 30,000 new jobs could be added, and up to $7.6 billion in annual economic impact. For every government dollar spent, up to $13.50 in economic activity could be generated. Opening on time: The College of Medicine’s Burnett Biomedical Sciences building and the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute opened in 2009. The College of Medicine’s medical education building opened in June 2010. Producing up to 120 medical graduates a year: UCF is helping to address the physician shortage. Respecting the environment: The UCF College of Medicine medical education building at Lake Nona is expected to receive the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) silver certification.
