SERIOUS ENTHUSIASM After graduating with a Radio–Television degree, Cheryl Hines worked several jobs before her big break on the HBO show “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” She credits her education with getting her started. I learned how to edit here at UCF. Without my education I would have been lost. And there is still so much more in her future. With three new films and her reality series “School Pride,” she knows what it takes to make it. Do not be afraid of failing. Most people are so afraid of failing they never even try.

Life is Good Here
Earning your college degree will be your ultimate goal during the next few years. But college life is about more than books and studying. It’s about being independent and developing your interests. We have an endless array of amenities and activities to keep you stimulated when you’re not hitting the books.
Looking for entertainment? Whether you live in one of our on-campus suites or a nearby off-campus apartment, you’re never more than a short walk or shuttle ride from all the action.
Got food on the brain? Grab a sandwich on the go from Subway®, Jimmy John’s®, Chick-fil-A® or one of numerous other convenient eateries on campus. Try the all-you-can-eat dining at Knightro’s or catch a game and a burger at Wackadoo’s or Tailgaters. Itching to get off campus? Satisfy your taste buds at a never-ending selection of area restaurants, many of which are located within one mile of campus.
Want to save gas money? Hop on one of our free shuttles, which pick up and drop off at several apartments off campus, all on-campus residences, throughout the main campus and Research Park, and in and around Orlando.
Going green? Use pedal power—and don’t worry about parking, we have 6,500 bike spaces. Our carpool service, Zimride, will help you find a travel buddy.
10
Meeting friends between classes? Head over to the Student Union, where you can grab a coffee or smoothie; chow down on a slice of pizza, a Philly cheese steak or a soft pretzel; shop for computers or even eyeglasses; study in one of the lounges; or use the computer lab—all in the center of campus.
Want to be healthy? Take advantage of our newly expanded 149,000-squarefoot Recreation and Wellness Center, where you can swim, play one of our intramural sports, climb a three-story rock climbing tower, run on the indoor track and test your endurance on a variety of cardio and weight machines. The center also offers dietary guidance and stress management seminars, among many other services.
Feeling under the weather? No need to venture off campus to find a doctor —you can see one for free (some exceptions apply) at the Health Center, where you can get vaccinations and prescriptions filled too. The center also has allergy and travel clinics, as well as a women’s clinic and a new dental center.
Determined to make straight A’s? We’ve got numerous academic resources to help you along your journey. Need help choosing a major or optimizing your course load? Your own personal advisor awaits. Need a tutor or help developing study skills? Stop by the University Writing Center or Math Lab. Other specialized offices include Multicultural Academic and Support Services and Student Disability Services, all offering leadership, advocacy and support to help you build a foundation for success.
Need a place to live? With nearly 8,000 beds in on-campus and universityaffiliated off-campus housing, there’s sure to be an option that suits you. All residential communities are a short walk from classes and are close to shops and restaurants. A free shuttle bus connects the campus to local apartments, so you are only a few minutes away from all the activities. For more information about living at UCF, visit housing.ucf.edu.
Busy Knights Whether you’re a serious scholar, a social butterfly, a dedicated volunteer or a combination of all three, there’s a group at UCF that’s just right for you. Like chocolate? We’ve got a club for that. Like heavy metal? We’ve got a club for that too. In fact, we have a club or organization for just about anything you can think of, be it history, philanthropy or even surfing. You’ve got loads of options—hundreds of them, actually. Ready to get involved?

R I C H A R D C RAV E N S B L AC K & G O L D A N D B L U E M A N A lot of my fun memories at UCF came from being in the band. And after years of performing as a drummer—from UCF’s marching band to theme parks—Richard is using his psychology degree and his music skills to make a career out of entertaining others. As a performer in Orlando’s Blue Man Group, Richard brings high energy and improvisation to the stage every night. We have to be quick to react, especially when one of the guys does something we’ve never seen before. Richard may come back to UCF someday to use his degree and apply his performing skills as a teacher. I think it would be cool to come into a class and just lecture utilizing my practical applications.

Location, Location, Location Sure, you know about Disney, Universal and SeaWorld. But did you know Central Florida has 100-plus theme parks and attractions? There are also more than 5,000 restaurants and an array of beautiful beaches just a short drive away, making this area one of the top vacation destinations in the world.
As a UCF student, you can take advantage of all this and more year-round. And, you’ll never have to put on snow boots for any of it. In fact, our weather is so mild, you can usually wear shorts on Thanksgiving. Our sunny days are perfect for studying on the grass or by the Reflecting Pond. Orlando is not just theme parks. Our area has seen rapid growth and economic expansion as a center for the life sciences, medical innovation and technological developments. That’s why nearly 60 percent of our alumni stay in Central Florida to start their careers. More and more, Central Florida is becoming a Knight nation. It’s a great place to live, work and play. Will you be its next permanent resident?

History-making. Groundbreaking. A national model for medical education. These are just a few of the things people across the nation are saying about the College of Medicine. Determined to recruit the best charter class, the college asked the community for financial support—and was able to offer the first class full four-year scholarships. But the college isn’t just about training doctors. It’s about research too. The Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences within the College of Medicine is nationally known for its innovative research on everything from anthrax to diabetes to heart disease. Returning starters and strong recruiting classes have preseason polls predicting success in several fall sports, including football and men’s and women’s basketball. Requirements UCF requires a minimum of 18 high school units to be considered for admission. Students must complete four years of English, four years of math (Algebra I and above), three years of science, three years of social studies, two years of the same foreign language (in sequence) and two academic electives. Meeting minimum requirements does not automatically guarantee admission. SAT scores are compiled using the highest critical reading and math sub scores from each test taken. ACT scores are based on the highest reported composite score. UCF operates on a rolling admissions basis. Students are generally notified of an admission decision three weeks after we receive all supporting official documents.
Freshmen A freshman applicant is a student with 11 or fewer credit hours of college course work after high school graduation. Admission to UCF is offered based upon a review of the high school academic record, quality and level of difficulty of courses, GPA, grade trends and SAT or ACT scores. Supporting documents like letters of recommendation and an essay can also be extremely useful.
