AT THE CU HELEN AND ARTHUR E. JOHNSON DEPRESSION CENTER
S
ince our founding in 2008, the University of Colorado Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Depression Center has made significant progress expanding mental health care to vulnerable populations throughout Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region. We have done this by providing robust specialized mental health services at the CU Anschutz Medical Campus and pioneering integrated care offerings in primary care clinics throughout Colorado. We also offer telehealth to patients within and outside our state borders, and provide free community education and training opportunities. Our reach is expanding even further with the recent opening of our new Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Our team-based approach to mental health care and dedication to increasing its integration into primary care are revolutionizing the health care landscape. When we use this team approach, we are able to make the most appropriate diagnoses more quickly and develop solutions faster than ever. Many of our solutions are informed by the leading-edge research conducted by faculty at the Johnson Depression Center. With your philanthropic support, and the vision of our faculty, we are making Colorado a hub of innovation in mental and behavioral health. Thank you for investing in the mental well-being of our communities.
– Marshall Thomas, MD Executive Director, CU Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Depression Center
Fueled by Philanthropy Philanthropy is critical to our success, and your support has fueled numerous accomplishments since our founding ten years ago. • We are developing plans to further expand our reach through telehealth services in Eagle County and other communities in Colorado. • In less than two years, more than 6,600 individuals participated in life-saving suicide prevention, mindfulness and other trainings in schools, homes, businesses and organizations. • We launched the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus for veterans and their families, and anticipate serving hundreds in the first year.
You’ve Made This Possible In 2017, our team provided close to 8,000 clinical visits to adults, children and adolescents. We are committed to expanding these options to individuals throughout the state and the region with our innovative programs including integrated care and telehealth technology. With your support, we have embedded several of our faculty in primary care facilities in the Denver metro area and other rural Colorado communities, enabling patients to receive care where they are most comfortable. Primary care practices across the United States are adopting this new model of integrated care. Telehealth outcomes are equivalent to in-person care visits and we are also working to expand our telehealth options to reach people in rural and underserved communities. This technology allows our faculty to reach patients in convenient and comfortable settings via computer or mobile device. These efforts also allow us to extend our expertise to primary care physicians in rural communities so they have the resources they need to treat mental health issues in the clinic. Mental health is integral to our mission as an academic medical campus, and we have built a strong network of partners across campus and throughout the community. Our free educational programs are well attended, and the demand for our services continues to grow. From suicide prevention training to mindfulness and healthy workplace seminars, we are disseminating important information with the power to improve mental health in Colorado. These accomplishments, and many others like them, are made possible by your support. Thank you for making a difference at the Johnson Depression Center.
