FEES AND FINANCE
Fees and finance – important information for you At the University of Cumbria we know that tuition fees, student finance, scholarships and bursaries can be a lot of information to take in so we have produced this leaflet to make sure you’ve got all the important information to hand. WH Y FEES? The money you pay for your tuition means that we can invest in world-class academic staff and fantastic support in our unique locations which all lead to excellent employability rates. With 9 out of 10 of our graduates in employment or further study within 6 months* we really do deliver value for money.
P LA N YOUR BUDGET It is important that you make sure you have made arrangements for paying your tuition fees prior to the start of your course. The options are to take out a student loan to cover the cost of fees, some people have their fees paid by their employer or pay for the fees themselves.

F RE Q U E N T LY A SK E D QUESTIONS How will my fees change? Depending on the course you study fees could change each year in line with inflation. We will make you aware of these changes throughout your time with us.
How do I pay my fees myself? You can pay your fees online by debit/ credit card. The University offers a concession of up to three instalments. To see if you are eligible for an instalment plan you must speak with a member of the Finance Team on 01524 590826. To pay online logon at: https://payments. cumbria.ac.uk/open if you do not have an invoice, or https://payments.cumbria. ac.uk/invoice if you do have an invoice.
How do I get a scholarship or bursary? We offer a wide range of bursaries and scholarships, these all have different criteria which you can find out more about at www.cumbria.ac.uk/bursaries If you are applying via Student Finance, please make sure you select ‘Means Tested’ to make sure you are potentially eligible for a scholarship or bursary.
What happens if I decide to leave my course or take a break from my studies? If you are thinking about leaving your course it’s important that you speak to your tutor as soon as possible. This will give you time to not only make sure it’s the right decision but they will be able to put you in touch with our Library and Student Services (LiSS) team who will give you advice about the financial implications of your decision. If you find that you need to take a break from your studies for personal or health reasons then this is called intercalation and you will also need to contact your tutor and a member of LiSS who will guide you through the next steps. Both of these situations will have implications on your fees so it’s important to speak to your tutor as soon as possible.
What happens if I’m transferring from another university? You are classed as a transfer student when you leave one university and start another immediately. If you want to transfer to the new university in the following September, you must officially withdraw from your original university. If you are a transfer student then you need to speak to us to find out what fees you’ll have to pay. We’ll then speak to your funding organisation and previous university to get the process finished.
