COURSE CONTENT The focus of the course is on the underpinning of knowledge and education to enable newly appointed project controls personnel, as well as more experienced staff, to enhance their skills and to build on their experience to take this to university level.

WHY YOU SHOULD CHOOSE THIS COURSE The University Certificate in Project Controls allows you to combine academic study with workplace learning. There is a growing demand for suitably qualified project controls professionals in a range of different sectors and industries. This course can enhance your career prospects and allow you to learn about how project controls are applied in different sectors. This University Certificate course can be studied either full-time or part-time to suit your employment and lifestyle. With the support of your employer, you can continue to earn while you learn and develop skills which can be applied in the workplace.

HOW YOU WILL LEARN The course is delivered at the Carlisle Business Interaction Centre on Paternoster Row. You will have the option of completing the course over one semester, or part-time over eighteen months. These arrangements will be confirmed in advance of your enrolment, after discussion with your employer. Most of the course is delivered on a day release basis with some block week delivery. Lectures will be delivered by experienced academics and industry professionals, and delivery will be a blend of face-to-face teaching in lectures and seminars, supported by high quality online learning resources.

The Foundation Degree course in Project Management is accredited by the Association for Project Management. This is the UK’s largest professional body for project management with over 21,000 individual members and 500 employers.

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF CUMBRIA We have extensive experience of developing vocational higher education programmes and responding to key employer needs. In developing this course, we have also worked in close collaboration with the University of Manchester, which has a long history of providing highly successful post-graduate education in project management. This link provides a ladder of opportunity that extends from undergraduate through to post-graduate and Doctoral opportunities.

Project Planning and Control Techniques

Earned Value Management and its use in monitoring project progress

The Project Business Case and how it is used

The importance of project controls in the project lifecycle

After successful completion of the University Certificate course, you will have the opportunity to progress to the FDSC in Project Management and ultimately to the BSC (Hons) in Project Management.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 100 UCAS points plus Maths and English at GCSE C or above OR At least two years work experience in an appropriate context.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS The course content will prepare to take the Association for Project Management Fundamentals Qualification and the Better Business Case Fundamentals Qualification. Should you choose to take these professional qualifications, additional examination fees are payable to the awarding bodies.
