IT Switch Upgrades

Port reduction surveys Vertical switch replacements – agree solution

Replacing the IT Network infrastructure in all buildings that will provide an upgraded, resilient, secure and manageable Network backbone.

Wi-Fi Upgrade

Vertical switch replacements – delivery New Newfibre fibrecabling cabling(verticals/CR (verticals/CRpiggy piggyback/stacks) back/stacks)

Wi-Fi strategy review – post pilot (NC PoC) Wi-Fi upgrades (Telent need to complete designs)

Replacing the Wi-Fi infrastructure in all buildings that will improve the coverage and speed of the Wi-Fi service. Students, staff and visitors are increasingly more reliant on Wi-Fi and the design of the upgraded service takes account the numbers of people using each building and the fact many people have more than one device each.

NAC – Network Access Control

Asbestos restrictions and solutions

NAC strategy planning and PoC NAC discovery (2 months per building)

IT Security is an essential aspect of the Network and throughout 2023 we will be upgrading the security systems to block rogue devices connecting to our networks. This will mean every device has to authenticate to the network once for us to verify that it can be used legitimately on our campuses. Unauthorised devices will be blocked.

IP re-addressing NAC implementation (1 month per building)

DC implementation plan

DC Migration The University has invested in new Infrastructure behind the scenes and during 2023 we will move the existing IT Services over to the new DC resulting in more manageable and secure IT Systems.

SIP Upgrade

DC test environment HW installed DC test by moving a live device DC implementation

SIP solution signed off (LLD and BoM) SIP circuit delivery by VM

The University is investing in state of the art telecoms connectivity to provide the fastest and most resilient connectivity across all buildings. This will replace the outdated lines and provide the building blocks for a new telecommunications environment. Known as UC (Unified Communications).

UC – Unified Communications The telecommunications systems will be upgraded during 2023 to allow the University to transform comms over to a new multi-faceted communication system based on Microsoft Teams. We will implement a fully flexible and resilient system that will be adaptable to the needs of all University staff.
