Safety of Women at Night

A scheme running in Exeter to help keep women safe on a night out

A night out in Exeter:

Everyone should be able to enjoy a night out in Exeter.

Women should be able to:

Walk in the dark

Pass by a group of people without feeling scared

Be free from worry that someone might bother them

Be safe from assault

Sadly many young girls and women have told us that this is not the case.

Safety of Women at Night:

Charter

Lots of businesses and organisations have signed up to a charter in Exeter. A charter is a promise.

This charter is called the Safety of Women at Night Charter.

The charter asks that places that are open at night agree to do everything they can to keep women safe.

Places include pubs, clubs and restaurants.

People who sign up will be trained to notice when someone is bothering or upsetting women.

Look out this for logo: Places that have signed up to the charter will display this logo on their front door or window. If you are planning a night out in Exeter look out for the Safety of Women at Night logo. The logo means that the people who work there will do everything they can to keep you safe. We’d like more businesses to sign up to the charter. https://exeter.gov.uk/clean-safe -city/community-safety/safetyof-women-at-night-charter/ Images ©Photosymbols Easy read produced by Safer Exeter October 2022
