Short description
– I want to see it as my life's ambition to stand up for human dignity and democracy, said Stefan Löfven at the event Gathering for Democracy. He also stood up during the performance of the Roma national anthem Gelem, gelem (I walked and walked), performed by the Arthem Roma theater.
Initially, Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor, Fredrika Lagergren Wahlin, spoke about the importance of safeguarding freedom of expression at a time when anti-democratic forces are gaining ground, not least on social media. In addition to several speeches, there were also musical performances.
The event Gathering for Democracy has been held in Gothenburg since 2000. January 27 is the international day of remembrance for the victims of the Holocaust because it was this date in 1945 that the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp was liberated.
