My student journey so far

My student journey so far

Social influence surrounds us

Abbie Hollister

Bejan Analoui

Business Management BA(Hons)

Lecturer, Management

“I grew up in a small village called Littleborough in Lancashire. I’m very close to my family, so when it came to choosing a university I wanted to stay near to home.

“When I was younger I was a lover of detective fiction and so always intended to join the Police. As I started working I found I took great satisfaction in training others, helping them develop and so decided to become an educator.

“Throughout school I studied art, design and textiles, but I chose Business Management because I wanted to gain a degree in something versatile that would be useful in whichever career I choose. I think having a creative background helps, particularly with all the presentations and exhibitions that we’ve had to do.

I didn’t realise how confident I was until I came to university! “I didn’t realise how confident I was until I came to university! I’ve had many live projects working with companies where I’ve had to lead my team and I loved it. It’s a lot of work, but the projects and essays are very exciting which makes it feel worthwhile and keeps me interested. “Besides successfully completing my projects, one of my biggest achievements has been winning the ‘Best Student of the Year’ award on my course in both year one and two. “After I graduate, I’d like to gain some work experience in a creative area of business, like marketing or branding, and then come back for a Master’s degree. I’m really excited for the future!”

Meet our staff

“I am from Manchester originally. Whilst at university studying for my PhD I spent time teaching and wanted to work in an environment where both high quality teaching and research are valued so that is how I came to work here.

Leadership is a fascinating topic and much of the field is concerned “one way or another” with the study of social influence. “I became interested in teaching business management and specifically leadership because it is a fascinating topic concerned with the study of social influence. “My most memorable event at Huddersfield was last year’s graduation ceremony. I felt very proud to see my final year students graduating in their robes. “I love teaching leadership – it gives me an opportunity to meet lots of interesting students and to get know all about them and what makes them tick. The material I teach is very practical, and it’s great to see students putting it into practice in their careers.”
