“Business Studies is an interesting subject area and I’m very passionate about it. My course allows me to gain great in-depth knowledge about all the different factors that contribute to running and growing a profitable business. “I’m very happy with the marks I gained in my first year, having achieved firsts in my final exams and an overall 2:1. I’m also extremely proud to be a course representative, raising the positives and the negatives of our experience in order to make student life better. Another highlight of my time in university is the great group of friends I’ve made. “For now I plan to take part in a placement year in order to get some experience in a real world environment. After I graduate I’d like to gain a Master’s degree and ultimately teach Business Studies at college level.”

It was like winning the FA cup!
David Harvey Senior Lecturer, Management “When I was younger I wanted to be a journalist or politician. Although this didn’t happen, I now regularly write for newspapers and talk about marketing on TV and radio. “I am originally from Essex. I first came to Huddersfield as a student and then returned a few years later as a member of staff. Although born a southerner, I have now spent most of my life in Yorkshire. “I became interested in teaching because I was always interested in understanding how and why people make decisions. Now my specialist subject is customer behaviour.
“I have now been teaching for over 25 years and the best thing is hearing about the various careers of the 5000+ students I have taught. They are all around the world, doing some amazing jobs. My most memorable event is the when Huddersfield won the University of the Year award. It was like winning the FA cup!
