My student journey so far
Hasan Shah Psychology BSc(Hons)
“I grew up in Bradford, West Yorkshire, and like a lot of youngsters, I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to be. All I knew is that I wanted to be in a position where I had the ability to help people and make a difference to their lives.” explains Hasan. It was Hasan’s visit to an Open Day which led to him studying Psychology BSc(Hons) at the University of Huddersfield, “I immediately felt at home. The staff were very friendly and the students all had a smile on their faces.”
I love learning all the different theories.
Hasan’s passion for psychology and choice of modules on the course helped to shape his dreams for his future career “Why do we behave the way we do? This question gathers a diverse range of opinions. Any given answer could be right and that’s the beauty of psychology. I have been studying psychology since GCSE level and I still have the same passion for it as I did back then, there is always something new to learn. I love learning all the different theories.” “I hope to carry on with postgraduate study once I leave, I’ll then try to embark on a career as an educational psychologist as this was the module I enjoyed the most. It’s interesting to learn about how people learn.”

Meet our staff
From surfing ambitions to developmental psychology
Paige Davis Lecturer, Psychology
“I wanted to be a pro surfer!” says Paige, recalling her childhood ambitions to travel around amazing surf spots like Jay Bay and the Gold Coast “I kept the surfing and abandoned the dream. Now I surf Beadnell Bay and Tynemouth off the Northumberland coastline.” Born outside of Philadelphia in the USA, Paige went to University in America where she majored in psychology. Working in an inpatient psychiatric hospital for children in Florida led to her postgraduate study in England. “I loved living in the UK, I preferred the academic atmosphere of England and Huddersfield was the perfect fit for me in terms of research programmes, international feel, and its beautiful campus. “Developmental psychology and psychopathology has always interested me even as a young child. I started a babysitters club, and was a nanny throughout high school.
I was fascinated with the development of language and cognition which lead me to learn French and Arabic.” Paige is now a Lecturer across our psychology courses at the University, “Here at Huddersfield I have the chance to look into children’s imagination play and how that relates to language, cognition, and social development. “What I enjoy most about teaching is being able to explain developmental psychology to students in a way that will inspire them to love the subject as much as I do. One of my favourite moments is when you see a student have a light bulb moment. That’s what keeps me teaching.”
I enjoy inspiring students to love the subject.
