Your course

Our Chemistry BSc(Hons) is taught by academics in specialist areas of chemistry who are all educated to doctoral level in their subjects and involved in forward-thinking research. This ensures we keep our courses challenging, exciting and thought provoking and helps prepare you well to start your own career in academic, industrial or commercial settings. This course covers the core areas chemistry, as well as giving you the chance to explore more specialist options during your studies. Whichever options you choose, you’ll be able to get a grounding in the fundamentals of chemistry while developing your logical reasoning and imaginative problem solving skills. In our chemical sciences labs you’ll have the opportunity to learn using the kind of instruments used in industry. And with an optional work placement in the UK or abroad in Year 3, you’ll find everything in place to help you gear your study towards boosting your employability.

Your future

As a graduate of this course, you may consider a career in a wide range of scientific areas, including chemical analysis, chemical manufacturing, healthcare, pharmaceutics, environmental consultancy, oil and gas, food and drink, petrochemicals, research and teaching. Previous graduates from courses in the subject area of Chemistry have gone on to roles such as Analyst at ALS Environmental, Analytical Scientist at Sequani, Microbiological Analyst at Microsearch Laboratories Ltd, QC Analyst at Ernest Jackson & Co Ltd and Operations and Technical Support Assistant at National Nuclear Laboratory.***

3 years full-time 4 years inc. placement year

Entry requirements:

A Levels/BTEC/UCAS points BBC* inc. C in Chemistry/DMM in Applied Science**/112 inc. grade C in Chemistry at A Level.

*The endorsement for practical work is an essential part of Science A Level study, and is a requirement for entry to our degree course. **Alternatively a BTEC Health and Social Care/Medicinal Science is acceptable but must be accompanied by A Levels in Chemistry at a minimum grade C.

If you do not have the appropriate qualifications for direct entry, you may be able to apply to our Science Extended Degree, see page 15.
