100% The UK’s only University where all our permanent teaching staff are Fellows of the Higher Education Academy*

Marketing generates the strategy that underpins corporate brand communications, product development and online and offline channels.

Our students regularly compete in L’Oréal’s Brandstorm and the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) ‘The Pitch’ competition

It is an integrated process through which companies build strong relationships and create value for their customers and for themselves. Marketers understand the power of an idea and how it can transform business. They are the ones who spot the trends, champion the unusual, the absurd and look at life differently as they recognise that is what ultimately makes brands stand out in the marketplace. The rewards can be immense and it can also be one of the most challenging and dynamic areas of the business as it’s not an exact science and often requires many different influences before things click into place. Most forward thinking companies employ marketing professionals as they recognise that marketing is at the heart of a business. Managing product portfolio or creating a fantastic customer experience requires analysis, vision and logic. It also requires a healthy

dose of lateral thinking, creativity and an ability to think outside the box. At Huddersfield we have a great track record of delivering marketing courses; we were the first academic institution in the UK to teach a dedicated undergraduate marketing degree and we’re carrying on that tradition with passion and enthusiasm! As well as exploring the latest marketing theory you’ll find plenty of opportunities to work on practical projects, often with real-life clients. You could find yourself developing a concept for a new brand and presenting it at an on campus exhibition. A company or organisation might commission you to provide some market research to help them understand more about their customers or markets. Our students are given the opportunity to learn the skills to make an impact in the marketing professions, be it on the client side or within an agency, developing ideas and strategy or taking and executing a brief.

Our marketing courses are accredited by The CIM Graduate Gateway programme**

* Permanent staff, after probation: some recently appointed colleagues will only obtain recognition in the months after their arrival in Huddersfield, once they have started teaching.

** Excluding Global Marketing (Top-up).

Marketing is at the heart of every business

Brendan Canavan Lecturer, Marketing

“When I was younger I didn’t really have an idea of what I wanted to do but being from the Isle of Man I was interested in sustainable tourism, I realised that marketing is at the heart of every business and that is where I wanted to be. “I came to work at the University because my grandad used to work for the University as a careers advisor and he encouraged me to visit and apply. I did, made some friends and got the job. “My most memorable event has been marking my first assignment and seeing for the first time how students had picked up and developed the knowledge they learnt in class.

I love how marketing is the key to spotting trends to help us understand customers and markets better. This makes it a very forward looking, positive and varied subject to teach and engage with. “I love how marketing is the key to spotting trends to help us understand customers and markets better.
