Lecture capture with •
The “Lecture Capture” menu item in your modules on Brightspace gives you access to the University lecture capture system which we call HudStream.
•
HudStream enables staff to record some of your teaching sessions, which will then be streamed, normally within 48 hours, on the Brightspace site for that module. If you see “-c” after your module code on your timetable then this shows that the room is lecture capture enabled.
•
Lecture capture enables you to review your lectures to gain better understanding, to make your own notes from the session or to look up things mentioned by the lecturer for example.

Summon Summon is the tool you can use to search the University Library Services for publications, including books, eBooks, journal articles, and newspaper articles. You can access Summon here. Search using the search bar at the top of the page:
Tick these options if you want to specify either books, or journal articles. If you want to see all types of content, tick “everything”.
Use “advanced search” to search for specific authors or titles. Or, just type these into the main search box, above.
Search results in Summon The search results screen should look like this:
Search results in Summon The results will be a mix of different content types, e.g. books, eBooks, journal articles, etc. They will always say underneath them what they are:
Anything with the orange “online” sign next to it is available to read online. To read them, click the link that says “Full Text Online” under each item.
Login for Summon
After clicking on “Full Text Online, the article or eBook will open in a new browser tab. You will be prompted to log in with your University of Huddersfield username and password.
Refining your search Tick the “Full Text Online” filter to limit your results to only materials that are available to read online. This will remove anything that we only have in print, and that you will not be able to access remotely. Use the “content type” filters to restrict your search to specific types of resource, e.g. ebooks or journal articles. You can tick as many of these as you need.
Filters down the left hand side of the screen allow you to refine your search.
Use the “publication date” filters to see the most recent books/articles, or those published before/after/between certain dates. Drag the slider bar to see specific dates, or type your date range into the boxes.
You can also use these pre-set filters to see the most recent year, 3 years, or 5 years.
