Welcome to the spring newsletter! As the weather improves and the whole of Kent is covered in blossom we look forward to our third year students’ final projects. These are ambitious realised events taking place in our own facilities and venues around the southeast, promising to be a rich mix of interactive and immersive launch events and celebrations including experimental music and gaming experiences. Later in May they will be presenting 11 Degrees an end of year show of their work, which is open to the public from the 24th May till 1st June, (10.00 -5.00). This year’s study trip was to Paris and it proved to be a stimulating and energising visit. You can see images inside. Also in this edition is a profile of one of our alumni Chris Carr, Chris graduated in 2010 and set up his own company Lucid Illusions, which goes from strength to strength. PROJECTS PROJECTS PROJECTS PROJECTS PROJECTS PROJECTS PROJECTS PROJECT ‘THE LIGHT HOUSE PROJECT’ EED lecturer Paul Gambrill is currently heading a creative team from the School of Arts at the University of Kent, to realise an ambitious collaborative project between performers from Chatham (UK), Genoa (Italy) and Long Island (USA). The Lighthouse Project marks the University of Kent’s 50th Anniversary year with a major new interdisciplinary research project linking the arts and sciences. Using ‘state of the art’ technology (Prospero), this new software will enable three sets of performers, thousands of miles apart to create a three act theatre production in real time, online. The live production will start around Genoa’s famous lighthouse, one of the settings for the performances, then visit the counterpart lighthouse near Stonybrook College on Long Island before reaching its finale within Chatham Historic Dockyard, home of our School of Music & Fine Art (SMFA).

Freya Vass-Rhee, from the School of Arts will be the Artistic Editor with performances from Roanna Mitchell, Pablo Arenillas- Pakula and Daisy Orton from the company Accidental Collective. There will also be a light creation workshop leading to a performance by members of Brompton Academy’s performing arts course
