A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE "Once I decided to do my degree at UON, living on-campus for me was a no-brainer. I’ve now been here for three years and it’s been the best decision. I’m originally from Tasmania and I had always wanted to venture further afield for uni. During my gap year, a friend who had grown up in Newcastle suggested UON and living on-campus. Once I started doing some research I was really impressed with the range of different accommodation styles available, the convenience and the coastal vibe which were probably the biggest factors in helping me decide. Since this was my first time living away from home, I also really wanted a safe environment that would give me the greatest chance of meeting new people. What’s kept me coming back each year though is that inclusive community, that sense of belonging to something and the staff who genuinely care about your wellbeing. Plus, getting to class is super easy and all my living expenses are included so it’s just one less thing to worry about. Newcastle is an awesome place to live too — it’s not overly busy, but it’s busy enough. I am really passionate about helping others and my goal is eventually to practice law. The leadership training and personal development program and opportunities that I’ve been involved with at Student Living, as an Events Officer and a Residential Mentor, have really helped me grow and given me invaluable experience in a variety of situations. I’ll definitely be taking those skills with me into my career. The best thing about living here though? It’s got to be the friends you make and the experiences you have with them – there’s nothing else like it."
