Student success stories

Rebecca

Master of Marketing, 2013

With a passion for the creative arts and an undergraduate degree in communication, Bec kickstarted her career in marketing. She pursued postgraduate study to validate her hands-on experience and take her career to the next level.

“The Master of Marketing was very complementary to my role at the time and helped forge a new career path upon my completion – giving me the confidence to start my own business as a specialist marketing consultant to the arts and creative industries. As well as getting the prestigious degree and the sense of accomplishment that comes with that,

I made many connections in the local business community through the overlap of Master of

Business Administration (MBA) programs and gained confidence in my own skills and abilities.”

Sam

Master of Teaching (Secondary), 2021

Like many, Sam was not entirely sure what he wanted to do when he finished high school. After completing a law degree Sam realised that he wasn’t working in his dream job, so turned to postgraduate study to pursue his next career path.

“The length of the program at Newcastle was the main drawcard. I know that while there were important aspects of teaching that needed to be acquired through study, most of the skills were learnt on the job, and this was my chance to get there as soon as I could. It was knowing that I can be out of the office and into teaching within a year and a half (four Trimesters).”

Vibin

Master of Materials Science and Engineering, 2021 Committed to making a difference in his field, Vibin chose to study at the University for the practical learning opportunities and chances to gain real-world industry experience.

“The ability to receive hands-on research training in a variety of areas and interact with partners to make industry connections has well prepared me for success in the future. These rich experiences will help me to develop my career path in research and development.”

Amy

Master of Nursing (Advanced Practice), 2019

Having completed her Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Newcastle, Amy’s decision to complete her Masters at the same institution was an easy choice.

“By studying my degree, it has opened up so many opportunities for me. I wouldn’t have been able to apply for my current role without having my Masters degree. Being a nurse and a midwife, it is my responsibility to ensure that my clinical practice remains up-to-date.”

Rhian

Master of Disaster Resilience and Sustainable Development, 2020

Rhian is a lifelong learner. Studies across nursing, paramedicine and postgraduate courses in clinical operations led to his interest in event and emergency management.

“During my Masters, I had opportunities to talk disaster management, resilience and recovery with a number of professionals who aren’t in the clinical sphere. It was great meeting and working with town planners, and architects in both government and non-government professions.”
