David Kabwa, MA Diplomatic Studies, 2023, was selected to be part of the 2022 United Nations (UN) UNITE 2030 Ambassadors Programme. The initiative brings together young change-makers for a 12-month programme that aims to strengthen action to achieve the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

New agreements signed with global partners
Dr Gopolang Mohlabeng (BSc Physics, 2010) has earned a spot on the global 25 Rising Stars in Astronomy List for his research into dark matter. The list profiles researchers from across the word whose work has contributed to our understanding of what still remains one of the greatest mysteries of nature.
Darren and Justin Oates, mechanical engineering graduates of the class of 2019, signed a licensing deal with Sony Music Entertainment Africa. This gives them the exclusive right to distribute Alter Ego’s music. The twins are also the founding executive directors of Gaztron, a company that converts vehicles to run on gas.
Emrie Brown (BCom Accounting, 1990) has been appointed as the new CEO of RMB, making her only the second woman to lead a corporate and investment banking unit in South Africa.
Ndavi Nokeri (BCom Investment Management, 2022) was crowned Miss South Africa 2022. She is the third consecutive Miss South Africa to have graduated from UP.

The University collaborates with over 3 000 institutions across the globe and has some 230 international institution-wide partnerships across 70 countries and six continents. In 2022, UP signed 33 new agreements with its partners globally.

Dr Gerna Wessels from the Department of Social Work and Criminology won the University’s Community Engagement Award in 2022 for her contribution to the development of the social work in practice module in the fourth year.
