International opportunities
MORE STUDENTS THAN EVER UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE and employers are increasingly interested in students who have global awareness.
Students who take part in our International Opportunities programmes reap the academic, professional and personal benefits of an international experience for future employment in the UK and overseas.
Studying or working abroad plus international activities at home, give you the opportunity to see more of the world and experience a different style of education. You may also be able to learn a new language and get to know another culture. At Salford, we are here to help you make this happen.
Visit salford.ac.uk/io for the most up to date details.
EUROPEAN EXCHANGE
Our European Exchange programme is for you if you are interested in studying or potentially pursuing a work contract or traineeship within Europe. We have many fantastic partner institutions all over Europe, as well as many industry links. If you have the option to undertake a work placement as part of your degree, you may be able to do this through the European Exchange programme.
Please be aware, European study and work opportunities are subject to change. We will take part in the Erasmus+ programme until May 2023. However, a new mobility programme, the Turing Scheme, came into force in September 2021 and will provide funding for study and work placements in the EU and further afield. Funding is obtained on an annual basis. For more details visit

We continue to work closely with European partners for study and work opportunities in the EU.
We encourage all students to take part in international opportunities where possible, either via study and/ or work opportunities or internationalisation at home activities.
OPPORTUNITIES INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE
If you want to venture further than Europe for a study exchange, our International Exchange programme is for you. With partners in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, South Korea and the USA, you have the incredible opportunity to visit some fantastic places, while taking advantage of the great facilities our partner institutions offer.
It is hoped that the new Turing Scheme should provide funding for
International Exchange programmes longer term. When you join Salford, you can come and discuss your options with the International Opportunities team.
For both the European and International Exchange programmes, money needn’t be a barrier if you are considering going abroad. You continue to pay your usual tuition fees to the University, and you are still entitled to your student finance.
In addition to the International and European Exchange programmes, we regularly promote short term opportunities via third parties. In the past, our students have taken part in research projects or internships organised by, for example, the British Council and the
Canadian MITACS programme (mitacs.ca/en/programs/globalink).
These opportunities are often either partially or fully funded and offer you the chance to gain valuable work experience that will make your CV very attractive to your future employers.
Studying and working overseas are fantastic opportunities for you to develop yourself both personally and professionally, while making new friends from across the globe and acquiring skills that are attractive to potential employers. Visit salford.ac.uk/international-opportunities/ourpartnerships for information on our current partners.
