The Alcalá Bazaar takes place at the start of each semester at USD, and provides a space for students to discover the many opportunities for involvement that are available! Student organizations, university centers and departments come together to meet and greet students and share their positive experiences about getting connected. USD Medical Brigades works to improve access to healthcare, dental care, and medications for rural community members by offering complete comprehensive consultation services through medical and dental clinics. USD Medical Brigades is a part of Global Brigades which also supports communities with economic development and sanitation and clean water projects, implementing these programs in a holistic, sustainable model to meet a community’s health and economic goals. In August of 2023, our volunteers traveled to Honduras and worked in medical and dental clinics where volunteers had the opportunity to take patient vitals, shadow Honduran medical doctors, teach children’s preventative oral hygiene education lessons, and help distribute medications to community members all while experiencing mutual empowerment within the communities. @usdbrigades

USD’s Office of Sustainability has launched several initiatives, including a 15-year Energy Master Plan, to support the university’s goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035. Our Green Office and Eco-Resident programs educate employees and students on ways to make their daily work and living practices more sustainable and help to reduce USD’s greenhouse gas emissions. We also offer resources to support students, staff, and faculty efforts to help address climate change and other urgent challenges of the 21st century.
