Stephen Conroy, PhD, is a professor of economics at the University of San Diego, where he joined the faculty in 2004. Dr. Conroy also served as the associate dean of undergraduate business programs (2015-2021) and as the faculty director of the Center for Peace of Com merce (2012-2015). He earned a PhD in 1998 and an MA in 1995 in economics from the University of Southern California and a BA in economics from Creighton University, where he graduated with honors in Dr.1987.Conroy has published more than 24 journal articles and book chapters and received with more than 2,000 citations in Google Scholar, primarily in the areas of applied microeconomics, housing econom ics, business ethics, economics of education and economics of aging. Dr. Conroy enjoys collaborat ing and mentoring in research, including supervis ing undergraduate honors theses, teaching the capstone senior seminar course in economics and co-authoring peer-reviewed journal articles with four former undergraduate students. Honored as one of Poets&Quants’ Top 50 Undergraduate Business Professors in the U.S. in 2018, Dr. Conroy has also won several research and teaching awards, including: being named Professor of the Year (Mens et Spiritus Award) from the USD Honors Program (2015); Professor of Impact (CC MBA Program) (2016); Out standing Professor Award by the MBA cohort (2008); Senior Faculty Research Award (2014) and a Dual Excellence Award for outstanding teaching and research He(2010).has also been named both a Research Fellow (2016) and a Teaching Fellow (2020) of the Academy of Economics and Finance.
STEPHEN CONROY, Ph D
Jeremy Kua, PhD, received his undergraduate degree from Reed College and his Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology known as Caltech. After postdoctoral work at University of Califor nia, San Diego, he joined the University of San Diego as a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry and Dr.Biochemistry.Kuahastaught a wide range of classes at USD. The first-year general chemistry sequence and upper division courses in physical chemistry are his most common courses. He also has taught special topics courses in computa tional chemistry and origin-of-life chemis try, and is excited to put together a metalsin-biochemistry course this year. As a computational chemist, his expertise is in quantum chemistry. The Kua research group works on constructing energy maps for self-assembling chemical reactions whereby small molecules combine to form larger structures, with applications in materials chemistry, atmospheric chemistry and the chemical origins of life. His research has been funded by external grants from the Dreyfus Founda tion, the American Chemical Society, and UndergraduateCorporation.Researchstudents at USD are integrally involved in this research and have been co-authors on more than 20 of his publications. His current main research project is studying how autocatalytic reactions can lead to the construction of self-sustaining proto-meta bolic systems. In the chemistry and biochemistry depart ment, Dr. Kua has served both as chair and associate chair. In 2013-2014, USD granted him leave to spend 18 months in Singapore to help establish Yale-NUS College, a new liberal arts college set up as a collaboration between the National University of Singa pore and Yale University. Dr. Kua has been a faculty member at USD since 2002.

Her books, You Don’t Own Me: How Mattel v. MGA Entertainment Exposed Barbie’s Dark Side (Norton 2018) and Talent Wants to Be Free: Why We Should Learn to Love Leaks, Raids and Free Riding (Yale University Press 2013), received several prestigious awards and were reviewed in top scholarly and popular media, including The New Yorker, Financial Times and The Wall Street Journal. In 2016 Lobel presented her research at the White House, which resulted in a presiden tial call for action. In 2020, she was the keynote speaker and advisor to the Federal Trade Commis sion on labor market competition policy and continues to advise to current administra tion on competition, trade secrecy and labor Lobelpolicy.is a beloved teacher and mentor and has been recognized by her students as a Woman of Impact and as a Woman of Valor. Her new book, The Equality Machine: Harnessing Tomorrow’s Technologies for a Brighter, More Inclusive Future, has already received rave reviews.
Orly Lobel, SJD, is the Warren Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of San Diego, the founding director of the Center for Employment and Labor Policy (CELP), and the award-winning author of numerous books and articles. She’s a prolific speaker, commentator and scholar who travels the world with an impact on policy and indus try. A graduate of Tel-Aviv University and Harvard Law School, Lobel clerked on the Israeli Supreme Court and is a member of the American Law Institute. She recently was named as one of the most cited legal scholars in the country and has received several grants for her scholarship including, most recently, a grant from the AI and Humanities Project.

Dr. Ngo has been active in collaborative research involving undergraduate students and has partnered with colleagues across USD, other institutions, international scholars, external research labs and indus try, and community partners in developing countries. Her research interests are in the areas of materials and processes involving polymers, composites, organic semiconduc tors, and supercritical fluids. Dr. Ngo founded the manufacturing engineering technology associate’s degree program for San Diego City College, the first of its kind in the state of California, and taught in the engineering and technolo gies department for five years.
Truc Ngo, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Indus trial and Systems Engineering and recently was appointed as associate provost for research administration at USD, serving as chief research com pliance officer. Dr. Ngo joined the USD faculty in 2009 and served as the industrial and systems engineering department chair from 2018 to 2022. Over the years, she developed extensive interdisci plinary curricula and taught a variety of courses, focusing on manufacturing processes, manufacturing systems, sustain ability and coffee.

Professor Zwolinski is the author or editor of five books, including Arguing About Political Philosophy (2nd ed., Routledge in 2014), and The Routledge Companion to Libertarianism (edited with Benjamin Ferguson and published in 2022). Three of his books will be coming out in 2023 — Exploitation: Philosophy, Politics, and Economics is a collection of essays edited with Benjamin Ferguson and is forthcoming with Oxford University Press; The Individualists: Radicals, Reactionaries, and the Struggle for the Soul of Libertarianism, which was written with John Tomasi of Brown Univer sity and is forthcoming with Princeton University Press, and Universal Basic Income: What Everyone Needs to Know, written with Miranda Fleischer of USD’s school of law, and is forthcoming with Oxford University ZwolinskiPress. is married to Jennifer Zwolinski in USD’s Department of Psychological Sciences. Zwolinski has published more than 30 academic articles on these topics. He is regarded as a leading expert on the universal basic income, and has been interviewed on that topic by numerous national and international media outlets, including the The New York Times, Time magazine, as well as CNN, NPR, Nikkei and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
Matt Zwolinski, PhD, is a professor of philosophy, founder and director of USD’s Center for Ethics, Economics, and Public Policy, and co-director of USD’s Institute for Law and Philosophy. His research focuses on the intersection of philosophy, law and economics, with a special interest in issues of exploitation, basic income and libertarian political Professortheory.

Dr. Davary’s first book, Women and the Qur’an: A Study in Islamic Hermeneutics (2009), focuses on development, continuity and change in the portrayal of women with an emphasis on dynamic identities of the texts. Her later works centers on the development of Muslim feminist scholar ship, especially as it grapples with the challenges of orientalism, colonialism, patriarchal Islamism, and neo-orientalism. Her research in comparative religion takes a thematic approach revolving around issues of eco-theology, peace and justice, women and religion, and pluralism, explored especially through academic writings by scholars from the subaltern. More recently, Professor Davary has worked on a monograph eco-theologyexploringandeco-poet ics, in the work of an influential 20th-cen tury Persian poet/painter, Sohrab Sepehri (d. Her1980).book, Ecotheology and Love: The Con verging Poetics of Sohrab Sepehri and James Baldwin, was published by Rowman & Littlefield (2022). This study is a reflection on the interrelation of religion, poetry, ecology, and decoloniality. Through exami nation of poetry’s ability to heighten the readers’ awareness, the book engages with difficult and complex issues of environmen tal justice, and the immediacy of works by Sepehri and Baldwin for our time. Davary’s research and publications are broadly within the field of compara tive study of religion, with a focus in Islamic studies. She has published several articles in academic journals, encyclopedias and other forums. She has given more than a hundred academic and public lectures locally, nationally and internationally.

Ruixia (Sandy) Shi, Ph.D., joined the University of San Diego’s Knauss School of Business in 2016. She is a professor of operations and business analytics and the academic director of the Master of Science in Business Analytics Program. Dr. Shi has taught a variety of classes at USD including operations management, supply chain management, data visualization, and business analytics. She supervised students in the capstone consulting projects with leading global companies such as BMW, Nokia, Solar Turbines, Western Digital, Volkswagens, etc. She is also actively guiding students doing business research. In a recent busi ness case study, Dr. Shi collaborate with MBA students to study the global supply chain operations of JD.com, a leading Chinese e-commerce company. The manu script is currently under-review with a top case journal. Dr. Shi’s research goal is to utilize the power of data and mathematic models to help business enhance their efficiency and decision-mak ing. Her research areas include supply chain man agement, project manage ment, service operations and business analytics. Dr. Shi published more than 20 journal articles, six of which appeared in Fortune 50 journals. She was awarded KSB 2021-2022 Intellectual Contributions Award for her excellence in research.
Professor Shi had extensive industry experience in project management and supply chain management before earning her Ph.D. in management science at the University of Texas, Dallas. Over the past years, she has been involved in various consulting projects, helping local and global businesses on demand forecasting, project bidding and market analysis.

Ted Sichelman, JD, is a professor of law at the University of San Diego’s School of Law. Professor Sichelman is also the codirector of the Center for Intellectual Property Law and Markets, as well as the founder and director of the Center for intellectualandProfessorMathematics,Computation,andtheLaw.Sichelmanteacheswritesintheareasofproperty,lawand
Sichelman’s work has appeared in many top law reviews. He recently was named the 11th most-cited intellectual property law scholar in the United States.

Professor Sichelman has participated in a number of U.S. Supreme Court cases, including playing a substantial role in a win for an injured employee in MetLife v. Glenn (2008). He also has drafted or co-drafted amicus briefs in several Supreme Court patent cases, including TC Heartland v. Kraft Foods, Impression Products v. Lexmark Interna tional, Global-Tech v. SEB, and Bilski v. ProfessorKappos.
Michael D. Ramsey is a professor of law at the University of San Diego School of Law, where he teaches and writes in the areas of constitutional law, foreign relations law and international law. He is the author of The Constitution’s Text in Foreign Affairs (Harvard University Press), co-editor of Interna tional Law in the U.S. Supreme Court: Continuity and Change (Cambridge University Press) and co-author of two casebooks, Transnational Law and Practice (2nd ed., Aspen) and International Business Transactions: A Problem-Oriented Course book (13th ed., West). His scholarly articles have appeared in publications such as the Yale Law Journal, the University of Chicago Law Review, the Georgetown Law Journal and the American Journal of International Law Ramsey received his BA magna cum laude from Dartmouth College and his J.D. summa cum laude from Stanford Law School. Prior to teaching, he served as a judicial clerk for Judge J. Clifford Wallace of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and for Justice Antonin Scalia of the United States Supreme Court. He practiced law with the law firm, Latham & Watkins, where he specialized in interna tional finance and investment. Ramsey has taught as a visiting professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of California, San Diego, and in the Department of Comparative Law at the University of Paris, Sorbonne.
