CONGRATS YOU’VE BEEN ACCEPTED!
TO THE Welcome UNIVERSITY OF SAN DIEGO! Congratulations on your academic achievements. We know that your demonstrated hard work and outstanding personal character will open exciting new opportunities for you as an important member of our Torero community. Our founders, the Most Reverend Charles Francis Buddy, the first Bishop of San Diego, and Mother Rosalie Hill of the Religious of the Sacred Heart, envisioned a university on the hill as a beacon of light for the Catholic intellectual tradition. Through beauty, goodness and truth, our charism shines for the world to see, as our collective actions reflect the dignity of the individual and the imperative to care for our world and one another. We invite you to explore and discover all we have to offer to challenge your mind, heart and spirit as we join you on your journey to shine even brighter! We are confident that you will make a lasting contribution to the University of San Diego and to the world. We are one of only 42 institutions in the world designated as a Changemaker Campus. Our Catholic identity and Changemaker distinction reflect a deep conviction to help students apply their knowledge, skills and talents to confront humanity’s urgent challenges. Your total student experience, both inside and outside of the classroom, will equip you with enduring insights and capabilities that provide a competitive advantage after graduation, where a robust alumni network will support you throughout your career. Our Torero community looks forward to greeting you upon your arrival in August. Meanwhile, if you have any questions, please contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at (619) 260-4506. You can keep pace with the latest developments at USD by following me on Twitter and Instagram @usdpres. Sincerely,
James T. Harris III, DEd President

BEST QUALITY OF LIFE THE PRINCETON REVIEW
INSPIRING SURROUNDINGS USD’s co-founder, Mother Rosalie Clifton Hill, stood on the grounds that would become our campus and declared, “Beauty will attract them; goodness will lead them; but truth will hold them.” This ideal lives on today, as our students get to live and learn on one of the most beautiful campuses in the world. You’ll get to view the ocean walking to class, enjoy amazing sunsets as you head to dinner, and in between enjoy the stunning architecture of our buildings. Beyond the campus lies the eighth largest city in the country, known for its miles of sandy beaches, incredible year-round weather, and a rich cultural heritage that offers an amazing experience for our students. Sitting just 30 miles from one of the busiest border crossings in the world, the international opportunities are plentiful. This idyllic and exciting environment inspires our students and faculty every day.

ACADEMIC REPUTATION USD is more than just a pretty place. Ranked among the top 100 universities in the country, USD has been setting the standard for a contemporary Catholic university for more than 70 years. We believe in the power of interdisciplinary learning and challenge students to see the ways in which all subjects are ultimately interconnected in our society. The liberal arts teach students how to learn, how to think and how to communicate across disciplines, which are exactly the skills employers tell us they need.

PERSONALIZED LEARNING From the moment you arrive on campus, you will be surrounded by a network of academic and social support. With classes averaging just 21 students, you will get to know our expert faculty in the classroom, but you’ll connect with them during regular office hours, partner with them on research projects, or meet in one-on-one advising sessions. Our Living Learning Communities (LLC) are purposefully connected to our core curriculum and bring together our firstyear students around specific themes. You’ll also have a firstyear class connected to the theme, and that professor will serve as your academic advisor. Students take classes together and live near one another, sharing an experience where academics meld with exciting co-curricular activities and community engagement. Making strong personal and academic connections, working with peer and faculty mentors, and having access to a wide array of resources that are dedicated to your success are all part of the USD experience.

INCLUSIVE FAITH COMMUNITY Our founders understood faith as a light which illuminates our search for ultimate meaning and purpose. As a result, faith and service are woven into almost every aspect of campus life, creating exciting opportunities for you to explore your deepest beliefs and highest aspirations. While about half of our students indicate that they are Catholic, our students bring many faith traditions to campus. As a Catholic university, we welcome and include students from every background and faith tradition, creating a caring community where all can belong and grow in their spirituality. Masses, prayer services, retreats and faith sharing groups are offered year-round. We give students abundant opportunities to serve with compassion, practice changemaking and address humanity’s urgent challenges. In all that we do, we inspire and challenge our students to see the world, and themselves, with new eyes. Our Catholic identity and all that it entails help to provide many ways that faith and service enrich students’ experience at USD.

CHANGEMAKING For the past 10 years, USD has been a designated Changemaker campus because it has shown a full commitment to provide opportunities for all students to engage in social change and social innovation both inside and outside the classroom. We encourage our community to commit themselves to addressing social issues that matter to you and exploring new ideas that will have a positive social impact. Through innovation challenges, such as the Fowler Global Innovation Challenge, or organizations such as the Changemaker Student Committee and the Hive (providing support and mentoring), you will have many opportunities to embrace changemaking. You can even explore Changemaking as a minor! At USD, we blend inquiry and practice, combine compassion, cultural awareness, sustainable thinking and social innovation to help students develop the skills and vision necessary to become powerful agents of change.

GLOBAL EXPERIENCES Our location at the edge of an international gateway uniquely positions us to give students a broader view of the world - both from campus and beyond. USD has been ranked among the top five schools in the nation for the past five years for the percentage of undergraduates participating in a study abroad program. In 2015, the university earned the prestigious Senator Paul Simon Award for Campus Internationalization, which “recognizes U.S. colleges and universities that are making significant, well-planned, well executed and well documented progress toward comprehensive internationalization.” Throughout the university, no matter the major of study or the degree pursued, global themes permeate the curriculum. For example, all undergraduate students will have a minimum competency of three semesters of a foreign language to enhance their cultural understanding of others. USD offers courses in nine languages, as well as programs such as Asian, Italian and Latin American studies. There are approximately 135 academic study abroad programs offered in 44 countries and 76 cities to experience and learn about different cultures, languages and customs. And we offer the Madrid Center, our first, permanent international location. It serves as a hub to connect with our European partners and alumni, and annually hosts more than 100 undergraduate students taking a wide variety of courses including a unique, multi-city seminar through Spain.

CAREER OUTCOMES LIFELONG SUCCESS We understand that families make a big investment in paying for college. We are committed to providing students and families with the resources to make the USD experience a reality, one that not only pays off in the short term, but in a lifetime of success. All undergraduates participate in one of three Career Readiness Programs - Passport, Compass, or Connect - depending on their intended major. These programs complement the curriculum and assist students in exploring their passions, helping them develop career building skills, and connecting them with networks that lead to meaningful post-graduation plans. Through our Career Development Center, you’ll have access to workshops, career fairs, alumni mentorships and networking experiences, such as our Torero Treks. Here’s a snapshot of their success.

A celebratory orientation weekend for new Toreros and their families, this program is designed to make every step of your transition to USD seamless: moving in, meeting fellow classmates, connecting with your faculty advisor, and experiencing all that your Living Learning Community (LLC) and the broader USD community has to offer.
Because of the many benefits associated with on-campus living, USD requires that students complete a two-year on-campus housing requirement. Beginning in early May, information regarding housing and class registration will be available to students who have made deposits. Visit the MySanDiego portal or sandiego.edu/ residentiallife to learn more. Meal plan selections can be made over the summer via the MySanDiego portal. All first- and second-year students are required to have a minimum meal plan.
Students with documented disabilities should contact the USD Disability and Learning Difference Resource Center as soon as possible to discuss appropriate accommodations. For more information, go to sandiego.edu/disability.
International students seeking an F-1 student visa must confirm enrollment before we can begin issuance of your Form I-20. Upon receipt of your enrollment deposit, you will gain access to the necessary forms via the iTorero portlet, located inside the MySanDiego portal. International students who are not applying for an F-1 student visa are also required to complete select forms in iTorero, which will be accessible in the MySanDiego portal after you submit your enrollment deposit.
