Health Requirements for Nursing Compliance

Students enrolled in the on-campus and hybrid nursing programs at USD are required to meet extensive health requirements in order to be in compliance during their graduate program. Immunization records, annual background checks and annual drug screenings are tracked via Complío by American DataBank . Review the Health Requirements for Nursing Compliance in preparation to meet the requirements. Students can also meet with Angie Palomar Valdez, nursing compliance officer, to discuss the health requirements in detail.

The Office of Nursing Research

This department is dedicated to guiding both novice and experienced nurses in developing their individual programs of research. From nursing resources to funding and publishing, the Office of Nursing Research is able to assist all nursing students with their research.

Dickinson Family Foundations

Lizbeth Dickinson Smoyer Nursing Simulation Center

The Dickinson Nursing Simulation Center (DNSC) is designed to simulate the clinical setting and provide students with the opportunity to develop and enhance clinical skills in a safe environment. The 10,000 square-foot space is located adjacent to the Hahn School of Nursing building on the first floor of the Betty and Bob Beyster Institute for Nursing Research, Advanced Practice and Simulation. The Dickinson Nursing Simulation Center, which is equipped with a central lab/ lecture hall with vignettes of hospital patient beds on the periphery, contains a combined lecture/acute care venue, three acute care exam rooms, six primary care exam rooms, a nursing station, medication room, faculty/student lounge green room and laundry room. The DNSC is equipped with high-fidelity mannequins, student debriefing rooms, computer video monitoring and recording capabilities along with a Learning Spaces information management system.

Health Care Affiliations include a wide variety of clinical resources including UCSD Medical Center, Sharp Healthcare (hospitals and clinics), Scripps Health (hospitals and clinics), Children’s Hospital and Health Center, Veterans Administration Hospital, Balboa Naval Medical Center, and Palomar Health. Because of the focus on health promotion, many community agencies are utilized, including schools, home health agencies, the San Diego County Department of Health Services, health maintenance organizations and local community clinics. These managers in the Knauss School of Business support undergraduate and graduate business students in their career exploration and professional development. They are there to empower and educate business students to define a job search strategy they can refine and utilize throughout their careers, and will support students throughout their academic journey from orientation to graduation.

International Student Introductory Program for Graduate Programs (ISIP)

The Knauss School of Business offers an additional orientation to support our international students, which helps them build confidence and prepare for academic success, cross-cultural networking and professional development. Please refer to the USD School of Law Student Handbook . Every law student is responsible for knowing the contents of the handbook, which contains a broad spectrum of information. Included in the handbook is information on the USD Law Honor Code, student code of conduct, financial aid policies, university policies and cost of attendance. In addition, the handbook contains the Academic Rules and Administrative Policies and Procedures, which govern all aspects of law school academics. USD Student Success Team

Online degree students at the University of San Diego are supported by our Student Success Team. Each student receives a designated program coordinator who serves as their primary point of contact to deliver best in class service. They register students and provide guidance and resources throughout their degree programs.

Students have comprehensive welcome webinars, which sets clear course expectations, covers an overview of their program requirements, and introduces them to resources at the University of San Diego. The Student Success Team monitors student course progress starting with their initial online new student orientation course and continues to support them in the remainder of their program until they graduate. Related support involves registering students in their courses, providing degree plans to students, preparing itemized statements for billing purposes, reminding students to order course materials (ex. textbooks), advising for withdrawal or leaves of absence, and emailing students for course deadlines. After that, the Student Success Team partners with the instructors to ensure that no student falls behind in their coursework. The Student Success Team supports students in preparation for the annual University Commencement celebration each May.
