Torero Family Calendar A UGUS T 2 02 2 — JULY 2 02 3

Welcome! The Office of Parent and Family Relations is here to help! It is our goal that Torero parents and families are aware of the services our office provides to ease your student’s transition to the University of San Diego. The Torero Family Calendar is a helpful way to follow along with your student during their first year at USD. Please note, dates and deadlines are subject to change. For the most up-to-date information, visit catalogs.sandiego.edu/undergraduate/academic-calendar/2022_2023. Below is a summer checklist, along with campus resources, specifically for parents and families of new USD students. To contact our office, call (619) 260-4808 or email parents@sandiego.edu.

SUMMER CHE CK L I S T Sign up for a Summer Send-Off. Join other families in your area at one of our Summer Send-Off welcome events. sandiego.edu/summer-send-offs-dates Learn more about Parent and Family Orientation. Opening Weekend is an orientation experience for Parents and Families, too. sandiego.edu/openingweekend Follow the New Student Checklist. Make sure your student is on track before arriving on campus. sandiego.edu/new-toreros/getting-started Request access to your student’s educational documents and information. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects your student’s information once they begin at USD. Your student must authorize your access. This will allow you to speak with university representatives about your student’s information. sandiego.edu/one-stop/student-records/ ferpa

Confirm your student has completed the required new student well-being courses by Aug. 24. As part of USD’s commitment to the well-being of its students and to creating a diverse and welcoming community, all new undergraduate students are required to complete an online education course series. sandiego.edu/health-wellness/ new-student-education Confirm your student has enrolled in or waived the USD Health Insurance Plan by Sept. 14. Determine if your student will keep the family plan or go with USD’s Health Insurance Plan. This waiver must be completed each year if they are opting out. sandiego.edu/health-insurance Confirm your student has submitted required proof of immunizations and tuberculosis screening. The status of your student’s wellness requirements can be checked via the passwordprotected MyWellness portal. mywellness.sandiego.edu Submit wellness exemptions, if applicable. Forms are available on the Student Health Center website. sandiego.edu/health-center

Submit wellness accommodations, if applicable. Contact Student Wellness prior to arriving to campus if your student has an ongoing physical or psychological health condition, needs access to prescription medication or has a documented disability and is requesting accommodations. sandiego.edu/wellness Confirm your student has everything ready for when classes begin. The Torero Store has everything your student needs for school, including textbooks and great deals on computers. usdtorerostores.com Pay tuition or sign up for a payment plan by Aug. 24. Your student may pay tuition in full or enroll in a monthly installment plan. Parents and families can make payments on behalf of students. sandiego.edu/one-stop/billing-and-payment Confirm your student has submitted their Torero ID card photo. The Torero ID card offers access to services and discounts both on and off campus. Firstyear students must submit an ID card photo by logging into their MySanDiego portal. my.sandiego.edu

MO V I NG ON A ND OU T Congratulations to our graduates and to their families and supporters! As our graduates move on, our residential students need to move out 24 hours after their last final exam. Donation bins are located throughout campus starting this month for any items students no longer want or need. Encourage your student to begin organizing items for move-out. USD also has a partnership with Campus Storage for moving and storage services. Visit campusstorage.com.

S OC I A L SUMME R Enjoy the summer and some family time with your student. Listen as they reflect on the past year, noting accomplishments and challenges and how they balanced a social life with new and old friends. Summer Send-Offs are fun social events that provide opportunities for incoming families and students to meet others from their area. Help us host an event or volunteer to welcome families in your region this summer! Email parents@sandiego.edu if you would like to help.

VISITING SAN DIEGO BARTELL HOTELS The University of San Diego has formed a partnership with Bartell Hotels. Richard Bartell, a School of Law alumnus, has opened the doors of his eight premier hotels to the USD community. The USD–Bartell Hotels partnership means you receive a special rate when you book your stay at one of the conveniently located Bartell Hotels in San Diego. A portion of the room cost comes back to USD to support student scholarships, promote university events and marketing efforts and create community awareness about the partnership.

“We’re opening our doors to you and contributing to USD every time you visit.” — Richard Bartell ’75 School of Law

To take advantage of these special rates and USD family amenities, visit bartellhotels.com/usd or call 800.345.9995 to book your stay at any of the Bartell Hotels.
