What you need to know Most UK students studying in the UK don’t have to pay upfront for tuition; the cost is covered by a loan supplied by the Government and paid directly to the institution. Most students can get a loan to help with living costs from the Government. The exact amount available depends on household income and other circumstances. You don’t need to have a confirmed place to apply for funding, so full-time students should apply as soon as possible.

You only start to pay back your loan once you’ve left university and are earning over the threshold (currently £26,575 a year). When you’re paying back your loan, payments are normally deducted automatically through the PAYE system.
