“Old Members across the world not only form Univ’s past, they shape its future” Sir Ivor Crewe

Sir Ivor Crewe, students and Fellows at the Chalet, near Mont Blanc, Summer 2013

From The Master

As the illustration overleaf shows, College life in the last twelve months amounted to much more than what we did in Oxford. Much of my own travel has been in the enjoyable company of Old Members, but my heart is always warmed by time spent with Univ’s students, such as on our annual summer retreat to the Chalet. The breadth of Univ’s activity never ceases to amaze me, and I hope you are proud to be part of such a thriving global community. Thanks to the generosity of 2247 donors, just over 34% of our Old Member community, £829,274 was raised for Univ’s Annual Fund last year. This support has enabled us to offer exceptional opportunities to our students, strengthen Univ’s academic excellence, and enrich the College’s core values. With your help this year, we can continue to give today and tomorrow’s students not only a rewarding and fulfilling time at Univ, but all the ingredients they need for an exciting and successful future ahead, wherever they choose to take it.

What your gift can achieve Your participation is vital in attracting and securing major gifts. For example, the College raised £1.2m to endow the Hoffman Fellowship in Law, and three quarters of the donors made their gift through the Annual Fund.

Single gifts A donation of just £20 demonstrates your loyalty to Univ gifts at this level raise over £9000 each year, which is enough to fund 9 academic travel grants.

Regular gifts Regular gifts ensure the College can plan for the future. UK donors can give monthly or annually by setting up a Direct Debit, and international donors can give annually with a credit card.

£10 a month for a year generates £120, and could fund a book grant for two students, enabling them to purchase key texts for their course.

£25 a month for a year generates £300, and could fund a hardship award, assisting a student unexpectedly facing loss of support from their family.

£100 a month for a year generates £1200, and could fund a team of 8 student ambassadors on a 3-day Access Roadshow, visiting schools that do not have a history of applying to Oxford.

£5000 a year could establish an international research grant, ensuring Fellows, JRFs and postgraduate students can establish and promote their work.
