DAVID EDWARD (1953) was invested by the French Ambassador as Officier de la Légion d’Honneur – the highest honour conferred by France – and Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres on Saturday 17th November 2012, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to public life.

School, Philadelphia and University of New Mexico School of Medicine, Albuquerque, I have moved to San Diego, CA since my wife developed altitude sickness in Taos, New Mexico where we were living at 7,500 ft and after a bad fall I no longer relish skiing like I did. ROBIN LOW (1956) Bought Palnackie Farm, Castle Douglas, Dumfries & Galloway, January 2013, in fulfilment of life-long ambition to return to the land.
MALCOLM ANDERSON (1954) I have enjoyed fifteen years of retitement in the Pyrenees. Have published recently In Thrall to Political Change: Police and Gendarmerie in France with OUP.
JON HUTCHINS (1960) Retired in 2009. Major occupations reading, gardening and visiting children and grand children (each on each coast). MICHAEL EMRYS-JONES (1961) played Anthony Eden in the sell out run of The Audience starring Helen Mirren as the Queen. NICHOLAS FALK (1961) is now active in the Academy of Urbanism, and his blog. He has been advising the partnership between Grosvenor Developments and Ozford City Council on the development of a new community to the West of Barton. With Oxford Civic Society he has initiated a series of events under the title Oxford Futures to explore how best Oxford might grow. JOHN GLEW (1957) Over the last twenty years I have travelled (holidaying, back packing) extensively north of the equator, e.g.Yemen, Madagascar, North Pakistan, Uzbekistan and am willing to discuss my experiences with prospective travellers. ALCUIN BLAMIRES (1965) Retired in 2011 from post as Professor of Medieval Literature at Goldsmiths, University of London. Best known for his Clarendon Press medieval anthology Woman Defamed and Woman Defended. Currently keeps an eye on English at Oxford as External Examiner.
JOHN KNUBEL (1963) Published on issues associated with Federal Government’s financial accountability. DON STICKLAND (1963) Since going down, Don worked in energy (Schlumberger, Electricity Supply) whence he gained an Economics degree, and professional qualifications in Accountancy and Risk Management, but had to suddenly retire in Qatar in 2009 with an aggressive prostate cancer. He’ll field “How was it for you?” questions from newly diagnosed men. LYNN ROWLAND (1963) Now enjoying retirement after 22 years as Head of the Richard Pate School in Cheltenham. Also, on the governing body of the Cheltenham College, which keeps me quite busy. JON COOK (1964) Lynne and I reemigrated to Sydney after 5 years based in SW London. Still working around 6 months per year as a natural resources economist, mainly in Asia/Pacific. Also trying to regain sailboarding skills, which became a bit rusty while UK-based. ROGER POTTER (1964) Recently elected Chairman of Britain-Nepal Society. Delighted to hear from any prospective members.
FRANK WEBB (1967) is now Visiting Professor of the Practice of Public Policy at Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy and is on the faculty of the Master of International Development Policy and MPP programs . RICHARD BARRETT (1968), lately Head of the Monitoring Team at UN Security Council Committee, has been appointed CMG for services to enhancing the implementation of Sanctions Regimes and International Security.
JAMES J. COLEMAN (1963) was recently presented with the 2012 Coast Guard Spirit of Hope Award. Coleman, as President and Chairman of the board of directors for the National Coast Guard Museum Association, has supported the US Coast Guard and its people for decades. PETER GIBBS (1963) His novel, Settling the Score was short-listed for the Cricket Society and M.C.C.’s Book of the Year Award.
PETER HUTCHINSON (1967) I have now retired from full time employment but still work through my own company. Currently I am Executive Director of Green Africa Power which invests in renewable energy projects.

GRAHAM MAYRHOFER (1965) Emeritus Fellow, University of Adelaide School of Molecular and Biomedical Science. Medical education: Lectures in Medical Immunology, Tutor in Case Based Learning, Examiner in MB, BS, years 1-3. ALAN FRANKS (1966) has written A World Elsewhere, a play set in Oxford in 1968; “A thrillingly intelligent drama of politics in all its forms, from international statesmanship through to the dirty tricks of old rivals and the rule-free warfare of the bedroom. In such a time of limitless possibilities, happiness is there for the taking, and innocence for the losing”. The play has a four-week run in London, at Theatre503 in Battersea, starting on January 20th 2014. WILLIAM TODD, III (1966) Delivered Ilchester Lecture at Oxford, 31 May 2012: In the Fullness of Time: the Serialization of the Russian Novel in the Nineteen Century. SCOTT WOLSTENHOLME (1966) I retired from the Circuit Bench on 6 May 2013. I continue to sit as a member of the Parole Board. 3
ROBERT McHENRY (1968) was elected to an Honorary Fellowship at Oriel College, in recognition of his 38 years of teaching Experimental Psychology at the College and his career in Psychology. ANDREW TURNER (1969) I have been Chief Scientist at AccentusMedical since 2011 - responsible for the development of infection resistant orthopaedic implants (AglunaTM). This is being commercialized in partnership with Zimmer Inc and Stanmore Implants Worldwide. The latter have already supplied over 600 custom implants for bone cancer patients with compromised immune systems.
1970s THOMAS BÖCKING (1970) was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his services to Anglo-German relations, particularly for his 31 years’ service as German Secretary to the Rhodes Trust. The Order of Merit is the highest tribute the Federal Republic of Germany can pay to individuals for services to the nation.
MIKE JACKSON (1970) received an honorary DSc degree from the University of Hull, in July 2013, for his outstanding contribution to management science.
PHILIP GORE-RANDALL (1972) Both my sons, William and Edward (both old Members) got engaged (to Cambridge Graduates) in the past year.
IAN WILSON (1970) Retired as Principal of Wyggeston & Queen Elizabeth I College in August 2012. Now Chair of Governors at Long Road Sixth Form College and researching the history of Sixth Form colleges from 1960 onwards.
JOHN PIKE (1973) I have now emigrated to Cambodia and am managing partner of Sciaroni and Associates, a leading law firm based in Cambodia and operating in Cambodia, Burma and Lao; my career change after spending two years workign as a VSO volunteer in the Cambodian countryside is a subject of a recent press release. LESLIE BOYCE (1971) has retired from the Learning Centre Manager post at Petroc (Tiverton), formerly East Devon College. Currently National Secretary of the Association of Ringing Teachers. ANDREW MURRAY (1971) was appointed by the Governer General of Australia as a Royal Commissioner on the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. (Presently and continuing: Chair of the statutory authority the Western Australian Regional Development Trust).
JOSEPH SANTAMARIA (1973) was appointed in August 2013 as a judge of the Court of Appeal of Victoria, Australia. JEE SAY TAN (1973) Selected and sponsored by US State Department as Election Observer on the Meridian US Presidential Election Exchange 2012 (Oct-Nov); Guest lecturer at Peking Univ. JON PLOWMAN (1971) was awarded an OBE for services to British comedy in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2013. Former head of BBC Comedy, Plowman’s producer credits include Absolutely Fabulous, French and Saunders, The Office, The League of Gentlemen and The Thick of It. ANDREW DUNROSSIL (1972) My rebirth into a parody of a Scottish Highlander continues. I became Chairman of the Society of Scottish Armigers and was elected to the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs.Visited Scotland and participated in eight Scottish festivals in seven American states. In December I was married - in my kilt. STEB FISHER (1972) recently wrote Our sustainability crisis didn’t start and doesn’t stop at climate change, an article for The Conversation, a news website written by academics in Australia.

JOHN CHENERY (1977) Working as a Configuration Manager for CGI who took over Logica in 2012, for whom I had worked ever since Univ. Outside of work, I am currently the Coordinator of the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton Ecumenical Walking Pilgrimages which organises a pilgrimage every summer in a different part of the UK. PCC Secretary and joint magazine editor for our local CofE church. ANTONIO FIGUEIRA (1975) We have four grandchildren: Antonio IV, Thiago, Maria Clara, and Luis Carlos. MIKE SHILLING (1975) I have retired from investment management and am now concentrating on music, playing keyboards with two bands - Strange Brew, and the Snake Oil Blues Band. PAVAN SUKHDEV (1978) has been awarded the 2013 Gothenburg Award for Sustainable Development. The theme of the 2013 award is Nature’s services and ingenious solutions. Sukhdev shares the award with Janine Benyus, co-founder of the organisation Biomimicry 3.8, which works on issues of how humans can learn from designs that already exist in nature. SIMON WESSELY (1978) was knighted in the 2013 New Year Honours for services to Military Healthcare and to Psychological Medicine.
SEÁN LANG (1979) My new plays The Usual Incentive about the Belgian Congo, and The Necessity of Atheism about Shelley at Univ, were put on in Cambridge and Oxford. KIMBERLY MARSHALL (1982) Starting a year of research leave from Arizona State University, where she is a Professor of Music. Beginning in January 2014, she will be living in Oxford with her family, conducting research on Tudor organ music. ARMANDO IANNUCCI (1982), creator of The Thick of It, received an OBE for services to broadcasting. STEPHEN KEEVIL (1983) King’s College London awarded me a personal chair as Professor of Medical Physics.

SIMON HITCHINGS (1989) Appointed Headmaster of Swanbourne House School in Buckinghamshire from September 2013. LAURENCE LIEN (1989) I am currently a Nominated Member of Parliament in Singapore, advocating on civil society issues and social concerns. I have been running the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre since 2008, which promotes not just a giving society, but also greater community ownership and initiatives from citizens.

ROZ SAVAGE (1986) was appointed an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2013, officially for services to environmental awareness and fundraising, although presumably it also had something to do with being the first woman to row solo across three oceans! She spent the fall semester of 2012 at Yale University as a World Fellow, one of a cohort of 16 international Fellows selected for their potential to create positive change on the global stage. She is now based back in the UK and preparing for the publication of her second book, Stop Drifting, Start Rowing, on 15th October 2013. HARVEY BELOVSKI (1986) completed a PhD in Hermeneutics in 2011 at the University of London. I have been the rabbi at the Golders Green Synagogue for 10 years and have now diversified into training, mediation and organisational consultancy.

RICHARD FLEMING (1990) Julia, myself and the girls are moving from Sydney to New York for a few years. JULIAN GLOVER (1991) Writing biography of Thomas Telford (engineer) for Bloomsbury Books. TOM HOOPER’s (1991) spectacular film adaptation of the musical Les Misérables received a number of accolades, including three Academy Awards, four BAFTA Awards, three Golden Globe Awards and the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Motion Pictures. MALIKA BROWNE (1993) From September 2013 I will be living in Istanbul with my family. Do look us up via the British Consulate if passing through. IZZY MANT (1993) Produced TV comedy series Harry & Paul which won a BAFTA for best comedy programme. JONATHAN PEVERLEY (1994) On 24th September 2012, Jasper John Peverley was born weighing 7lb 10oz. ANGELA CHANDLER (1994) Our third child Tommy was born on New Year’s Eve 2011. CAROLINE LEAR (1994) and Trevor Bailey (1993) have a son, Aidan Jay BaileyLear (born May 2011) - younger brother to sister Rowan. Caroline was also a guest speaker on In Our Time, February 14th 2013, discussing Ice Ages with Melvyn Bragg. MATTHEW BERRY (1995) Elected an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM) for Choral Conducting, awarded to former students of the Academy who have made a notable contribution to the music profession. JOSH FRYDENBERG (1996) has been re-elected in the Division of Kooyong, Australia, with 61.5% of the vote. He has since been sworn-in as Parliamentary Secretary to the new Prime Minister, Tony Abbott.
FABIENNE MORRIS (2004) has been appointed Communications Manager at the London Symphony Orchestra. The LSO is widely regarded as one of the top five symphony orchestras in the world and last summer performed to an estimated audience of 4 billion as part of the London 2012 Olympic opening ceremony. JOSH WEINBERG (2005) ACA Qualified (February 2013).
CLAIRE MCSHANE (2002) Recently moved to London to take up a position of Assistant Head (Academic) at St. Teresa’s School, Effingham. Previously Head of English at Kilgraston School, Perth. DAVID DELLER (2002) I have received a Ph.D in Economics from the University of Essex. The title of my thesis was “Three Essays on Economics and Incentives”. For the academic year 201112, I received a Junior Fellowship from the Royal Economic Society. OWEN JONES (2002) was joint recipient of the 2012 Stonewall UK Journalist of the Year Award. Stonewall Awards celebrate those who have made a positive impact on ensuring a positive representation of gay people in the media today. MELISSA O’REILLY (2002) was part of an unprecedented 135km relay swim from Russia to Alaska. The Bering Strait Relay is now certified by the Russian Book of Records and is being verified by the Guinness World Records.

DANIEL KHOO (2008) has been awarded awarded the Allen Space & Overy Prize in Corporate Insolvency Law, and the Clifford Chance Civil Procedure Prize for his performance in his summer 2013 BCL examinations. NADIA ODUNAYO (2009) has been ranked as number one this year’s ‘Future Leaders’, a list of 100 of the UK’s most outstanding African & African Caribbean students and new graduates.
