Beer on Mars?
Yeasts are microorganisms which have accompanied humankind for thousands of years. they have been used for production of, among others, bread, wine and bear. at the same time, they are one of the best known microorganisms, thanks to which they are used in numerous ways. During space missions they can serve as a source of whole food as well as microscopic pharmaceutical factories. In the BioWar project students deal with isolation and selection of yeast applied in beer industry. One of the most popular strains is BW-17, which was obtained from an old apple tree and then used to brew the first commercially available university beer in Poland.
