WHO IS D’AYCH?

HOW DID YOU COME TO KNOW THE LORD?

I am a man of God first and foremost. I am a believer and disciple of Jesus Christ. I am very passionate and driven to accomplish my goals. I am a musician, a producer, a song writer, a music arranger, and a Christian rap artist. I am very loyal, and when I love someone, I love hard. That is just me.

I came to know the Lord during a four-year prison sentence. When I became old enough to make my own decisions I began to neglect the Christian principles that I was born into. At the age of 16 I was placed on Milwaukee’s Most Wanted List, and I stayed on the run for about two years. At the age of 18, I was arrested and sent to await my sentence in Franklin for armed robbery. I received time in solitary confinement in 2003, and that is where I rededicated my life to Jesus Christ.

WHERE DID THE NAME COME FROM? D’Aych is just a creative way to spell the initials to my name (Daniel Harris-D.H.). The name came from wanting a name that describes me as a person as well as an artist.

DID YOU ALWAYS PLANNING TO BE AN ARTIST? Absolutely. I always knew, even as a child that I would be a musician. Always. Majority of the childhood pictures that I have are of me either singing on a toy microphone, or holding a guitar. I always knew that I would be doing this. Creating music that glorifies Jesus Christ and touches the lives of people around the world is the icing on the cake.

HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED WITH MUSIC?

WHAT’S IN THE HEARTS OF PEOPLE IN MILWAUKEE? First and foremost let me say that I love my hometown Milwaukee, WI. In my city, as well as many inner cities in America, my people are in need of hope. What I am seeing now is more babies having babies, the crime rate has escalated tremendously, and the unemployment rate has risen out of the roof. Police brutality is completely out of hand, and drug addiction is more noticeable now then it ever has been. All of these issues are reasons why I work as hard as I do. I want to be able to show people that no matter where you come from, or what you’re facing in life, if you believe in God and believe in yourself, you can watch your dreams become your reality.

Initially, I began doing secular rap music as a teenager. I was part of various local groups and recording company rosters when I first began. I also did a lot of rap battling at parties in the projects Rapping on street corners with my friends that I ran the streets on the north side of Milwaukee were some of the best times ever I’ve had. However, I didn’t come to understand the business aspect of the music industry until I began doing Christian music.

WHAT ARE YOU HOPING THE PEOPLE IN YOUR COMMUNITY WILL GET OUT OF THE MUSIC?

adaptmag.com

My prayer is that as people see me fulfilling my purpose, it will encourage them to fulfill their purpose. I am overly conscience about how I carry myself. For me it is not about bragging and boasting, unless I am speaking on how far God has brought me from. I want the people to hear the music, hear the pain of the past, hear the pain of the issues I face, and also hear the victory in my voice. I want people to see me as an example that you can go March/April 2013

from rock bottom to experiencing the journey of a lifetime at the top when Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior.

WHAT HAS BEEN ONE OF THE HARDEST THINGS TO ADAPT TO?

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON?

Hate from other people. It is harder to adapt to it because I am genuinely a loving person. I am not trying to be something that I am not through my music, so people show hatred because they don’t think I “deserve” the buzz I have been receiving as an independent artist. However, I have learned to divorce myself from the perspective of men. One day they will love you and the next they will hate you. It is different for me because I am loving person, but it is what it is. I am learning to love those people in spite of their ignorance and grind even harder. Their hate becomes fuel to the fire that burns within my soul to make a difference through music.

I am currently working on a new single that will be released on April 17. I recently released a project titled, “Supply & Demand V2” which has helped me to reach the No. 3 spot on the independent music charts www.reverbnation.com/ daych. We just reached about 6,000 national/international views/plays. I am also working on releasing a string of new singles and music videos for the duration of 2013. I am also working on my second full-length album entitled, “Living Proof.” I will also be releasing new D’Aych merchandise and so much more. Follow me on Twitter (@D_Aych) for more updates. I am in the running for a 2013-2014 “Rhythm of Gospel” Award for “Best Independent Christian Rap Artist” for the single ,’You Can’t Hide, You Can’t Run.’ Keep me in your prayers about that. Even if I’m not the winner for that award this time around, it is an honor to be considered one of the best so early in my career.
