a. Grassland - Grasslands are areas where the vegetation is dominated by grasses (Poaceae), however sedge (Cyperaceae) and rush (Juncaceae) families can also be found. Grasslands make up part of the ecology of Wilderness Park but native species from the Midwest are beginning to take over parts of these areas. As seen in the diagram to the left, grassland areas are depleting.

a.

b. Woodland

Nanette Heimes b.

Woodland is a low-density forest forming open habitats with plenty of sunlight and limited shade. Woodlands may support an under-story of shrubs and herbaceous plants including grasses. The woodland in Wilderness Park is mostly made up of Honey Locust trees and Oaks.

c. c. Invasive Cedar Trees Cedar trees are native to Landcaster county and are slowly diminishing other ecological communities within the site. The proposed design is to reinforce rooms in Wilderness Park
