The Academic Quadrathlon is a competition held at the local, regional and national levels. Teams are comprised of university undergraduate students and compete in four events: Laboratory Practicum, Written Exam, Oral Presentation, and Quiz Bowl. Winning teams move up to the next level of competition. The national winning team is determined at the American Society of Animal Science national meeting in July of each year. The purpose of the competition is to stimulate academic excellence among undergraduate students and for the students to attend American Society of Animal Science/American Dairy Science Association scientific meetings to meet faculty and students and to attend scientific research presentations. The 2019 UNL Animal Science Academic Quadrathlon local competition was conducted on Sunday, February 17, 2019. Five teams of four students competed in events organized by Department of Animal Science faculty, staff, and graduate students. The team of Spencer Carter (Berkey, OH), Joe Sonderman (Columbus, NE), Emmet Caldwell (Edgar, NE), and Fina Choat (Saint Edward, NE) were declared overall champions for the 2019 UNL Animal Science Academic Quadrathlon competition. The overall champion team represented the University of Nebraska-Lincoln at the Midwest Regional Academic Quadrathlon competition that was conducted on March 10 and 11, 2019 in conjunction with the American Society of Animal Science Midwest Sectional meetings in Lincoln/Omaha, NE.
