Zak Fica

P O C A T E L L O, I D A H O Zak is a potato farmer from Pocatello, Idaho. Just kidding, he doesn't farm potatoes. He IS from Idaho, though. He played football and basketball all through high school and still loves playing pretty much any sport today. He served an LDS mission for 2 years in Barcelona, Spain. At USU, he has 2 years left in his BS in Biological Engineering. After that, it's med school. For some crazy reason, he wants to be a trauma surgeon. Since he's not writing this, I can brag and say that he's extremely smart and hard-working, two of his best qualities. ZAK & TORI’S HAPPILY EVER AFTER | P. 2

Tori Winslow

VENTURA, CALIFORNIA

Tori is a Ventura, California girl, despite having lived in Logan, Utah the past five years. She graduated in May 2014 with her BA in both French and English. Her parents were pretty happy she made it out of college before getting married. Now she’s a year through her graduate program at Utah State in Writing & Literature because she didn’t want to start “real life” just yet. Tori loves writing, reading, and wearing boots of any kind. Most of her friends would call her a nerd, but most nerds would call her average...so she’s somewhere on that line. ZAK & TORI’S HAPPILY EVER AFTER | P. 3

ay back in January 2011, spring semester of our freshman year was just beginning. The semester before, Zak and I had both participated in a campus-wide event called "Humans vs. Zombies." Basically, it's a week-long game of tag involving Nerf blasters and orange bandanas. If you're really curious, just google it. We didn't meet each other while playing this game, but we both loved it enough to volunteer to help plan it the next semester.

February rolled around and so did the first meeting of the game-planning committee. It was Wednesday night in a building near our dorm buildings on campus. Zak tells me that he thought I was cute when I showed up, but was quickly disappointed when he realized there were five guys to compete with for the one girl on the team. The first thing I said to him was, "Thanks," when he held the door for me. After a couple of meetings, I started to notice that cute guy who I sat by in the meetings and how cool he seemed. I got up the courage to ask him to make cook-

ies with me before the next meeting. That was the first time we "hung out." He asked me on a date after that. The rest is history... Except then he went on a mission for two years. I wrote him as a friend, never really planning on seeing him again. I actually dated a couple of other guys in the time that he was gone. But in June 2013, he got home and we started to talk again. Without knowing it, we moved into the same ward when we both returned to Logan, Utah. Things started up again easily and naturally, like he'd never been gone. And THAT'S the whole story. I couldn't be happier!

What Tori loves most about Zak Zak is the most patient man I have ever met. He celebrates with me through the good times, and stays up late with me through the bad. Somehow he always knows how to make me laugh.

What Zak loves most about Tori She is kind, patient, smart and cute. She is always trying to help others and find ways to brighten everyone’s lives! She is amazing!

The proposal

ak and Tori spent that week at Disneyland with Zak’s dad and best friend. It was their last hurrah before summer ended and school started. Tori was suspicious of a proposal to say the least, but she didn’t want to hope for it in case it didn’t happen. Zak knew she was half expecting it at Disneyland, so he chose the most unexpected time to do it. His dad convinced the couple to get a caricature done on Wednesday late afternoon. Actually, he convinced Tori and Zak agreed because he was already planning on it. They sat down at a station in New Orleans Square and the artist, Joey, started drawing. They chatted with her for a while; Tori thought it was going to be a funny little drawing so she requested the artist turn them into superheroes in the picture. Tori would be Captain America and Zak would be the Hulk (sans green skin). After about 45 minutes Joey finished and asked Tori if she would like to come around the other side and see the picture. When she walked around to the other side of the easel, she saw a drawing of herself and Zak as goofy superheroes. But in the picture Zak was kneeling down and holding out a ring with a speech bubble that said, “ Will you marry me?” Tori looked back at him and he was on one knee, holding out a ring, and smiling. He said, “Tori Winslow, you’re the most amazing girl I’ve ever met. Will you marry me?” She started laughing and crying and hugging him without even answering. As he held her, he said, “Tori you need to answer me.” So she whispered a teary, chuckly “Yes” and stood back up. The strangers walking around the park nearby all clapped and cheered. After Tori recovered a bit, Zak took her across the path to the Blue Bayou, the restaurant inside Pirates of the Caribbean. He told the hostess that they had a reservation, and she said they had saved a waterside table just for the happy couple. Tori had wanted to go to that restaurant ever since she saw it as a kid, and Zak had made the reservation months in advance just to surprise her with it. The two spent the rest of the night wandering around and riding rides in Disneyland. His last surprise for Tori was two premium seating tickets for Fantasmic. Instead of crowding on the sidewalk like everyone else, they got to sit on folding chairs with individual dessert trays for a perfect view of the show. It was a perfect ending to a perfect day.
