Frenchgate unveil new general manager

Frenchgate Shopping Centre has appointed a new general manager and it is a familiar face who will be taking the helm of the 800,000 sq ft retail and leisure destination.

Karen Staniforth, who was previously assistant general manager, has been promoted following five successful years at Frenchgate.

After joining the team as marketing manager in 2015, Karen was promoted to assistant general manager two years later. Her new role will see her welcoming high-profile new food and beverage brand, Elephant and Castle, as well as working alongside retailers in navigating the continuing unprecedented times facing the industry.

Karen said: “I am incredibly passionate about ensuring Frenchgate offers our loyal customers the best possible shopping and leisure experience. A multi award-winning division of leading regional accountancy firm BHP now has over 20 deal advisory specialists sharing expertise across all aspects of corporate finance.

Building on 18-months of increased deal activity during a global pandemic, BHP Corporate Finance has bolstered its headcount with Will Sykes moving into its M&A advisory team and Mathew Oldfield into Transaction Services. This closely follows significant growth in team numbers in recent years, including two partner appointments in 2019.

Following a successful internship with BHP Corporate Finance in 2018, Will spent a year with the firm’s audit and tax teams through their Graduate Recruitment Scheme before returning to Corporate Finance full-time. Mathew followed a similar route, training and qualifying with BHP’s audit team before switching to his new role in November 2020.

Sarah is 'perfect addition' for Verus

Sarah Briggs, formerly of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and Museums Sheffield, has joined Verus Recruitment Partners in a newly formed position as their business development executive.

Further growth for Glu Recruit

Glu Recruit, the South Yorkshire based specialist recruitment consultancy, has added three new members to the team as it plans for further growth in 2021.

The now nine-strong team welcomes a new strategic partnerships manager, a recruitment consultant, and an apprentice recruitment administrator.

New Addition at Spärka

Spärka, a leading provider of high-quality architectural ironmongery and specialist supplier of fire-rated door hardware, has expanded its senior management team by appointing Rebecca Fortescue-Halliwell as marketing manager.

Rebecca brings 13 years of previous experience working within product development and marketing in the construction industry from her previous role at TIMco.

She joins founders Kelvin Hughes, Mark Hughes and Joshua Watkins who started the company in July 2019.

SCR Mayor appoints arts and cultural sector director

Sheffield City Region Mayor Dan Jarvis has appointed a director to help South Yorkshire’s arts, culture and heritage sector recover from COVID and thrive.

Kate Brindley previously worked for the Arnolfini in Bristol, the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art, Bristol Museums, and Chatsworth.

She said: “We want the region to be a place where people flourish through participation in arts and culture, and that our fantastic story and offer is recognised across the country and the globe.

“Growing up in Sheffield I loved visiting the region’s theatres, cinemas, music venues and art galleries. My experience of South Yorkshire’s rich cultural heritage fundamentally shaped who I am today.”
