REBEL GOLF AND ACADEMICS
The Rebel women’s golf team turned in another outstanding year in the classroom in 2008-09. Bethany Glassford, Alejandra Guacaneme, Therese Koelbaek and Kristen Schelling were named to the Academic AllLisa Levine Academic Advisor MWC squad, giving UNLV 21 honorees in the eight-year history of the Rebel program. UNLV has also had six players named to the National Golf Coaches Association Division I AllAmerica Scholar Team, with the latest honorees Glassford, Guacaneme and Koelbaek in 2008-09. Criteria for a student-athlete to be selected to the NGCA scholar team included a minimum 3.50 GPA and the player must have played in at least 66 percent of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year. Academic advising for UNLV women’s golf team is the responsibility of academic advisor Lisa Levine.

Advisors work with their sport-specific student-athletes in scheduling, tutoring, degree progress and NCAA eligibility. Providing even greater challenges, students who maintain a 3.5 grade point average can apply for entrance into UNLV's honors program.

One of UNLV’s home courses is Rio Secco Golf Club was designed and built in 1997 by golf course architect Rees Jones. When Rio Secco opened in 1997 Golf Digest and Golf Magazine voted it among the top 10 new courses. In 2007 Golfweek America's 100 Greatest Resort Golf Courses. The course was voted the No. 1 public access course in Nevada by the Las Vegas PGA membership poll along with many other awards. Rio Secco lays at the foothills of the Black Mountain Range 13.5 miles southeast of the Las Vegas Strip.

Located 20 minutes south of Las Vegas in Boulder City, the 27-hole layout of Boulder Creek has oasisthemed holes featuring palm trees, beach bunkers, lakes and waterfalls. Arroyos are artfully woven into the fabric of the course. Desert holes are bordered by the area’s unique playable sand. The course will host both the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown (Oct. 26-28) and the UNLV Spring Invitational (March 8-10).
WINNING TRADITION
UNLV won three consecutive Mountain West Conference titles, beginning with the Rebels’ first title in 2004 (left). They celebrated again in 2005 (middle) and once more in 2006 (right). Although the UNLV women’s golf program is entering just its ninth year, the Rebels have quickly developed a strong tradition that would rival most programs in the country. The Rebels have won 12 tournaments in Missy Ringler’s seven years at the helm, including three straight Mountain West Conference titles (2004-06) and four straight BYU Dixie Classics (2003-06). During that time Ringler has won two MWC Coach of the Year awards (2004 and 2006) while coaching three All-Americans, three MWC medalists, three Freshmen of the Year and three Players of the Year. Sunny Oh, Da Sol Chung and Therese Koelbaek have been named All-Americans, and Koelbaek and Oh were two-time honorees. Oh, Chung and Elena Kurokawa, took home both MWC Tournament medalist honors and Player of the Year accolades. Koelkbaek, who was named the league's top rookie in 2008, has garnered back-to-back honorable mention All-America awards. Rebel senior Natasha Krishna won the Indiana Invitational last season, becoming the fourth student-athlete to win at least two tournaments in their career. Koelbaek won two tournaments during the 200708 season, including sharing medalist honors at the 2008 NCAA West Regional, becoming just the second Rebel to win twice in one season. In all, seven different Rebels have won a total of 12 tournaments in the program's history. UNLV has appeared in three NCAA Championships, including posting a school-best 16th-place finish at the 2008 national tournament. That followed a third-place finish at the 2008 NCAA West Regional, the second-best finish in program history, and the Rebels extended their regional appearance streak to seven in 2009. Several former players have carried that success from UNLV to the pro tour, and Oh competed in two events as a rookie on the LPGA tour in 2009. Oh parlayed her success on the Duramed Futures Tour, (winning the 2008 Bright House Networks Open for the first professional tournament win by a Rebel) to earn a spot on the grandest stage in women's golf. There are currently three former Rebels on the Futures Tour: Kurokawa, Hwanhee Lee and Seema Sadekar.

STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING
Power Behind The Program UNLV's strength and conditioning program, under the guidance of John Grieco, is geared toward developing student-athletes' athletic potential through a personalized program that includes strength, speed, flexibility, conditioning and nutrition. Benefitting from an individuJodi Sabataso alized conditioning regimen impleStrength & Conditioning mented by a staff of five strength coaches, Rebel players follow a year-round system stressing the development of strength, power, speed and plyometrics. "UNLV develops its student-athletes on a one-on-one basis," Grieco said. "Players are not simply handed a regimen to follow, rather our staff utilizes an individualized day-to-day program." Grieco and his assistants are responsible for the yearround training of men and women student-athletes from all 17 varsity sports. The strength and conditioning development for women's golf is the responsibility of Jodi Sabataso. Complete with three offices, two restrooms and storage, the 8,500-square-foot deck features free weights, power racks and Olympian platforms. UNLV's facility houses more than 60 weight stations and Hammer Strength Machines. The 1,200-square-foot second level offers stretching and aerobic area catered to each sport. The room also features a premium sound system to further enhance the workout experience.

ATHLETIC TRAINING
The Finest Care Providing the best possible preventive and rehabilitative care, the UNLV women's golf athletic training staff is headed by Director of Athletic Training Kyle Wilson. Made possible by a generous gift of $1.5 million by Marilyn and Si Redd, the athletic training facility incorporates the total scope of sports medicine over an 8,500-square-foot area. Kyle Wilson Aside from five staff offices, a rehabilitation Athletic Training room houses a dozen pieces of equipment including Cybex stationary bicycles, stair machines and treadmills, all under a natural skylight. The largest area features a dozen tables to offer student-athletes various treatments throughout the day. Taping, padding and bracing all take place in another all-inclusive room. Finally, an aquatic therapy room features three above-ground whirlpools surrounding a 10-feet deep pool for rehabilitative exercises. All of these features make it possible for UNLV student-athletes to rehabilitate injuries without ever needing to leave the Lied Athletic Complex. Other amenities include a physician's office and exam room to provide daily medical service for student-athletes. A drug-testing facility also is part of the new complex. This expedites medical care because the student-athletes health care is self-contained. Also, UNLV's academic program and its student athletic trainers benefit from a sports medicine library, study room and conference facility. "Aside from being four times larger than our former facility," says Kyle Wilson, UNLV's Director of Athletic Training. "This is one of the top complexes in the nation because of the versatility it offers to service student-athletes in every area of sports medicine. We're now more efficient, more accessible and more effective in preventing and rehabilitating athletic injuries."

COMMISSIONER CRAIG THOMPSON Craig Thompson was the Mountain West Conference’s first employee when he was named Commissioner on Oct. 15, 1998. Ever since, Thompson has navigated the newest NCAA Division I conference through the everchanging landscape of intercollegiate athletics. As the league enters its 11th season of competition in 2009-10, Thompson continues to create and improve the opportunities for MWC institutions and student athletes to be successful both academically and athletically. Progressive in its approach, the MWC has flourished under the guidance of Commissioner Thompson and continues to cultivate opportunities for student-athletes to compete at the highest level, while fostering academic achievement and sportsmanship. He has been instrumental in negotiating nearly $230 million in television revenue, directed the league through expansion and has been an innovator in the postseason bowl structure as MWC teams have participated in five inaugural bowl games. His leadership and vision have helped the conference enhance its television revenue and exposure through revolutionary agreements with CBS College Sports Network (formerly CSTV) and Comcast to become the first major collegiate athletic conference to launch a dedicated sports channel featuring exclusive programming around its nine athletic programs. Thompson has been instrumental in strengthening the position of the Mountain West in the current Bowl Championship Series (BCS) structure. In 2006, he spearheaded an effort that resulted in better access for the MWC and more than doubled the annual BCS revenue on an annual basis for nonautomatic-qualifying conferences. The MWC has been steadfast in its efforts to find a way to make the BCS system fair for all universities. Through its first 10 years of competition, the MWC has participated in 36 bowl games. In 2007, the MWC posted the best winning percentage among the 11 conferences that make up the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and claimed the 2007-08 ESPN Bowl Challenge Cup for the second time in four years. The MWC has sent a record five teams into postseason action both of the last two seasons (2007-08) and over the past five campaigns boasts the best winning percentage in bowl games among FBS conferences. Prior to his current role, Thompson served as the commissioner of the Sun Belt Conference for nearly eight years and as the only commissioner of the American South Conference prior to the merger of the two leagues in 1991. Thompson graduated from the University of Minnesota with an undergraduate degree in journalism. He and his wife, Carla, have a son, Ted, and a daughter, Emma.
BIRTH OF A CONFERENCE The Mountain West Conference was conceived on May 26, 1998, when the presidents of eight institutions — Air Force, Brigham Young, Colorado State, New Mexico, San Diego State, UNLV, Utah and Wyoming — decided to form a new NCAA Division I-A intercollegiate athletic conference. The split from the former 16-team WAC re-established continuity and stability among the membership within the new league and signaled the continuation of its tradition-rich, long-standing athletic rivalries. Five of the MWC’s nine members have been conference rivals since the 1960s (BYU, Utah, New Mexico, Wyoming, Colorado State), while San Diego State (1978) and Air Force (1980) were longtime members as well. UNLV entered the fold in 1996 and TCU began its first year of competition in 2005-06, completing the membership in the MWC as it stands today. From its inception in 1999, the Mountain West Conference has been committed to excellence in intercollegiate athletics, while promoting the academic missions of its member institutions. The Colorado Springs-based league is noted for its geographic diversity. Some of the most beautiful terrain and landscapes in the nation can be found within Mountain West boundaries, including the majestic Rocky Mountain range, which borders four MWC schools (Utah, BYU, Air Force and Colorado State). The high plains of Wyoming (elevation 7,220 feet – the highest Division I campus in the nation) contrast with the desert city of Las Vegas (the fastest growing metropolitan area in the West) and the Pacific Ocean locale of San Diego State. The southwestern flavor of New Mexico complements the western heritage and culture of Fort Worth, Texas, home of the MWC’s newest member, TCU.

UNLV women’s golf head coach Missy Ringler can’t help but be excited for her eighth year guiding the Rebels, a program that looks to entrench itself in the top 25 and become a household name in collegiate golf this season. Consider the fact that Ringler returns all five starters from last season’s lineup, a group that includes a two-time All-American and a three-time All-Mountain West Conference performer, along with adding one of the most talented freshman in the country, and it is easy to see why she is grinning each day at the office. The rest of the golf world has also taken notice of the Rebels, with Golfweek ranking UNLV at No. 18 in its preseason poll, the program’s third-highest spot to open a season. But with all that talent comes high expectations. Ringler is not one to shy away from those, rather embracing and using them to help push her team. “I expect to contend for a conference championship, perform well at a regional and to get back to the NCAA Championships,” Ringler says. “I think from top to bottom, this is one of the most talented teams I have had and I am excited for this season.” Headlining the Rebels this year is junior Therese Koelbaek, who is already one of the top players in program history and looking to cement her status as one of the nation’s elite competitors on the links. Named to Golfweek’s Top-50 Players to Watch entering the 2009-10 campaign, Koelbaek has earned honorable mention All-American honors both of her first two years on campus. She put together a strong sophomore season that saw her post six top-10 finishes while her scoring average of 73.24 was second in the Mountain West Conference. During her rookie season she won two events, including sharing medalist honors at the 2008 NCAA West Regional, and she was named the MWC Freshman of the Year. Along with Koelbaek, the Rebels' regular lineup this season should include senior Natasha Krishna, a three-time All-MWC selection, junior Alejandra Guacaneme, sophomore Kristen Schelling and freshman Ellis Keenan, a talented import from England. Krishna is among the all-time Rebel leaders in several categories, including ranking among the top five in career scoring average and rounds played, while Guacaneme has played in every tournament since her freshman year at UNLV. There is plenty of talent beyond that five, paced by sophomore Bethany Glassford, who played in 27 rounds as a rookie, including the 2009 MWC Championships and NCAA West Regional. UNLV senior Melissa Mabanta, junior transfer Mandi Incorvaia and sophomores Victoria Oros and Stephanie Whatley are also capable of pushing for time in the Rebel top five. It will be up to Ringler and her assistant, Amy Bush, who is entering her fourth year with the team, to maximize that talent and guide the Rebels to their fourth NCAA Championships berth in the program’s nine-year history.
Koelbaek appears primed to make the leap and become one of the top collegiate players in the country heading into her junior season, and the native of Hotle, Denmark, already has her named etched all over the Rebel record book. She put together a strong sophomore season that saw her post six top-10 finishes, while her scoring average of 73.24 was second in the Mountain West Conference and the second-best mark in school history. Koelbaek was at her best during the 2009 Las Vegas

Collegiate Showdown, shattering the Rebel record for low tournament to par with a scintillating 16-under 200, one shot short of the NCAA Record. That included back-to-back rounds of 6-under 66, the lowest rounds to par in program history, and overall Koelbaek has fired nine of the 16 lowest sub-par rounds in the record books. A fine student in the classroom as well, Koelbaek was named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar team for the second straight year, while also earning Academic All-MWC and MWC Scholar-Athlete accolades. The scary thing for opponents is that Ringler believes that Koelbaek can only get better. "Therese is such a solid player both athletically and mentally,” Ringler said. “She is a two-time All-American, both on the course and in the classroom. We will look for her to be our leader again this year." Krishna has been a model of consistency for the Rebels since she stepped on campus three years ago, having posted scoring averages of 74.9 or better in every season on the course. Last season she posted a career-best 74.17 scoring average, which was third in the league, and she won the Indiana Invitational, the second time in her career she earned medalist honors. Ringler expects Krishna to once again earn all-league honors while challenging for MWC Player of the Year honors during her senior campaign. "Natasha is such a steady player and has consistently been someone we look to as a counter and a leader on the course,” Ringler says. “She demonstrates such patience and has been taught the game of golf extremely well from her time on the national team in New Zealand" A fiery competitor who brings a lot of flair to the course, Guacaneme has steadily improved during her two seasons while playing in every tournament since arriving in Las Vegas from Colombia. Guacaneme has lowered her scoring average each of the past two seasons and was named to the NGCA All-American Scholar team, along with earning Academic All-MWC and MWC Scholar-Athlete honors. Last season she carded four sub-par rounds and one top-10 finish, coming in seventh at the Wave Invitational with a 3-over 147 for the best placing of Guacaneme’s career. "Ale has been such a consistent player for us from day one,” Ringler says. “She has never missed a tournament for us as a Rebel. She is very focused and a strong competitor, and she is a complete student-athlete as well, having earned academic All-America honors twice." Schelling made an impact right away as a freshman, as she was one of two Rebels to play in all 32 rounds last year as a rookie while finishing with the fourth-best scoring average on the team. That appears to just be a glimpse of what the talented player is capable of. She posted two top-10s and one top-20 finish with a scoring average of 76.97, and she was at her best at the end of her rookie season by tying for ninth, 14th and 10th in three of the final four tournaments. "Kristen brings a lot to this team,” Ringler says. “She is a fierce competitor and she gives 110% to everything she does. She will be a big contributor for us again this season." Mabanta is the other senior on the team and the veteran has played in 55 career rounds, including 14 last season when she posted a scoring average of 80.36, the secondlowest of her career. She competed in the 2008 MWC Tournament as a sophomore and has the ability to play herself into the lineup during her final year of eligibility. www.unlvrebels.com
"Melissa definitely has a shot at making the lineup this thi year,”” RingRi ler says. “She has been in the top five in previous years and we will be looking to her for senior leadership on this team." Glassford is a talented local player from Coronado High School who contributed as a freshman, playing in 27 rounds, including the 2009 MWC Championships and NCAA West Regional. She posted one top-10 finish, tying for eighth at the Wave Invitational, and overall she had a 78.74 scoring average. Also a talented student, Glassford earned a spot on the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar team, as well as being named to the Academic All-MWC Team and a MWC Scholar-Athlete. “Bethany is such a good ball striker,” Ringler said. “It is amazing to see how far she can hit it. She worked extremely hard over the summer and will be competing to be one of our top five at every tournament." Oros made her debut on the links last year for UNLV following a redshirt season, and the sophomore played in 11 rounds and had a scoring average of 83.27. A long hitter off the tee, Oros has the ability to post low scores but needs to become more consistent on the course. "Victoria is a strong player,” Ringler says. “We need to get her scores a bit more consistent but she is very coachable and willing to learn, and that's what every coach asks for." Another sophomore who is a local product is Whatley, who prepped at Silverado High School and played in 11 rounds as a rookie after walking on to the program. She had a scoring average of 82.91, and that included a pair of rounds in the 70s at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. Whatley also was named a MWC Scholar Athlete. "Stephanie worked really hard over the summer on her game and it has shown,” Ringler says. “She is a lot more confident on the golf course and her game has improved tremendously."
Ringler welcomes two newcomers to the team this season in Keenan and Incorvaia, and both instantly add depth to the lineup while possessing the ability to play in the Rebels’ starting lineup. Keenan is a decorated import from England, having won four tournament titles last year while being ranked as high as No. 7 in the junior golf rankings and No. 20 in England's women’s amateur rankings. Keenan won the Surrey Junior State Championship by 16 shots in April, and also won two Ladies Order of Merit Counting events as a junior. She also took home top honors at the Hampshire Rose while setting the course record, and also earned medalist honors at

"We are extremely pleased to have Ellis join our program,” Ringler says. “She is such a great player and she has had a lot of success over in England, which I am sure will carry over here. She is a team player and I expect her to make an immediate impact in the lineup.” Incorvaia transfers in from Southern Utah, and the native of Las Vegas returns home after playing for the Thunderbirds for two seasons. A two-year letterwinner, she lead SUU in scoring average as a freshman and won the 2008 Utah Match Play Championship, becoming the first student-athlete from SUU to win the state title. "We are very pleased that Mandi has decided to come home and play her last two years here at UNLV,” Ringler says. “She will definitely have a chance to make a impact.”
Again this year UNLV will be one of the only schools in the country to host two events, the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown and the UNLV Spring Invitational, and the pair of home tournaments are part of another competitive schedule for the Rebels. UNLV opens the season with Golfweek’s Conference Challenge on Sept. 13-15, which will be played just down the road from Las Vegas at the Primm Valley Golf Club in Primm, Nev., and the Rebels will be matched up with some of the top teams in the country. UNLV will then play in the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational (Sept. 19-20), Windy City Collegiate Classic (Oct. 5-6) and the Stanford Fall Intercollegiate (Oct. 16-18). The Rebels will close the fall portion of their schedule by hosting the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, which will be held at Boulder Creek Golf Club on Oct. 26-28. Following the winter break, UNLV will return to the links at the Wildcat Invitational in Tucson, Ariz., on Feb. 22-23, the first of four spring tournaments the Rebels will play in before the 2010 postseason. Trips to the Bruin/Wave Invitational (March 1-3) and the MountainView Collegiate (March 26-27) will be sandwiched around the UNLV Spring Invitational on March 8-10, which is also scheduled to be played at Boulder Creek Golf Club. The 2010 MWC Championships will be played Fort Ord Golf Club in Monterey, Calif., on April 15-17, followed by the NCAA Regionals on May 6-8 and then the NCAA Championships in Wilmington, N.C., on May 18-21. “We have a very good schedule and the fact that we are hosting two tournaments again this year is great,” Ringler said. “Our schedule will challenge us throughout the year and prepare us to make a strong run in the postseason.”

he 2010 Mountain West Conference women’s golf championships again be held at The Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Course in Seaside, Calif., for the second consecutive time. The league’s seven schools that sponsor women’s golf all will be represented at the 54-hole event, slated for Thursday, April 15 through Saturday, April 17. New Mexico is the two-time defending champion, as the Lobos won the team title again last year by 14 strokes over TCU. It was the sixth championship overall for the Lobos. Jonelle Martinez of Wyoming earned medalist honors last year, the second time a Cowgirl has won the individual MWC title, as Jordan Lintz took home top honors in the first tournament in 2000.

With three NCAA Championship appearances and seven straight NCAA Regional bids, UNLV head coach Missy Ringler has established a tradition of excellence in women's golf as she enters her eighth season as head coach of a program that is less than a decade old. Ringler's Rebels have won three Mountain West Conference Championships to go along with the NCAA Regional appearances, and she has coached squads that qualified for NCAA Championships in 2004, 2006 and 2008. The Rebels posted the best finish in team history in their latest trip to the national tournament, placing 16th overall. It is Ringler, the MWC Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2006, who has turned the program into one of the best in the Mountain West and has brought it to the cusp of joining the nation's elite. "UNLV's three NCAA Championship appearances and NCAA Regional streak can only be attributed to the hard work of Missy Ringler and her players," said UNLV associate athletic director Lisa Kelleher. "Missy is a tireless recruiter, technically sound in her coaching and puts her student-athletes’ needs on the course and in the classroom first on her priority list." Ringler's teams have won a total of 12 tournaments in her seven seasons and three Rebels - Sunny Oh (2003-04), Elena Kurokawa (2004-05) and Da Sol Chung (2005-06) have earned MWC Player of the Year honors. Oh was a two-time All-American and Chung was named a first team All-American in her freshman season. Oh and Chung were also both named UNLV Sportswoman of the Year. Therese Koelbaek was named a Golfweek Honorable Mention All-American for the second consecutive season last year, the third player to earn All-America honors under Ringler's tutelage. Again in 2009-10, UNLV will be one of the only programs - men or women - in the country to host two tournaments in a season. The Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown has become one of the nation's premier events, attracting many of college golf's best teams each fall, while the UNLV Spring Invitational has been held in March the past five seasons. A veteran in college women's golf with more than 18 years experience as a coach and player, Ringler was announced as UNLV's second coach on June 24, 2002. She came to Las Vegas from the University of Minnesota, where she spent three seasons as the Golden Gophers' head coach. Under her guidance, the Gophers managed a fourth-place Big Ten Conference finish and a NCAA regional appearance in 2001 and produced at least one team and individual victory in each of her three seasons.

A highly decorated player, the native of Bloomington, Ind., was a two-time All-Big Eight golfer at Iowa State. She helped lead the Cyclones to their first-ever league title in 1993 and was the first player in school history to play in every tournament of her career. In her senior year, she served as captain and earned team MVP honors. After her collegiate career, Ringler spent a year on the Futures Tour and attended the LPGA qualifying school before shifting her focus to the coaching arena. However, her accolades as a golfer and with eight varsity letters while competing in five different sports during her high school career helped earn her kudos as Monroe County's (Ind.) Athlete of the Century, chosen by the readers of the Bloomington Herald-Times. At one time she held the record at Edgewood High School for the 800, 1,600 and 3,200-meter run as well as the school's cross country record. Playing the point guard position, she led her team to the Sweet 16 of the 1990 Indiana High School Basketball Tournament. Ringler was also inducted into the Bloomington Golf Hall of Fame in 1997 after winning four consecutive city championships from 1991-94. She secured her first coaching job in 1997, overseeing the varsity boys' team at Edgewood High School in Ellettsville, Ind., to a 38-20 record. Ringler departed the following season, accepting her first collegiate coaching position at Washington State. She spent two years as both an assistant and interim head coach for both the Cougars' men's and women's programs. Ringler regained her amateur status in 2000 and has found her way back to competitive golf. She competed in the 2002 Women's Trans National in Lincoln, Neb., and advanced to the championship flight before losing in the first round. As an amateur she has competed in the U.S. Women's Amateur and U.S. Women's Public Links, where she lost in the semifinals of the 1993 championship. She finished third in the 1994 Indiana Women's State Amateur and sixth in 1992 and 1993. She won the Nevada Women's State Amateur Championship for a second time in 2007. Ringler won her first state amateur crown in 2003, the first year she lived in the Silver State. The former Melissa Arthur, Ringler and her husband, Lance, are proud parents of a son, Landon (6). The family lives in Henderson with their niece, Shea (17), and their dog, Gus. The Ringler family: Lance, Missy, Landon, Shea and their dog, Gus.

PGA Professional Amy Bush is in her third year with UNLV women's golf and handles the day-to-day running of the program, and the PGA Professional brings a wealth of experience to the Rebels, both on and off the course. "Amy is a great asset to our program,” UNLV head coach Missy Ringler said. “Her experiences working within the PGA section have given her great contacts and she brings so much to our team.” Prior to joining the UNLV staff, Bush was the Chapter Coordinator for the Southwest Section PGA. Bush was responsible for the overall operations for Las Vegas from 2005 to 2007, and was the tournament director for numerous events, including the PGA Junior Series, Arizona Open and the Southwest Section Championship. While working for Southwest Section PGA, Bush was named the 2006 Las Vegas Chapter Golf Professional of the Year. Bush served as the assistant golf professional from 2001-2005 at SouthShore Golf Club at Lake Las Vegas Resort. During her tenure, Bush assisted with the dayto-day operations at the course. Bush also served as assistant golf professional for the TPC at Summerlin in which she assisted with a PGA Tour event and a Champions Tour event. Bush graduated from New Mexico State in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in business administration with a specialization in professional golf management, from a program that is sanctioned by the PGA. In 2007, Bush completed her master’s degree in sports and leisure management from UNLV. She recently graduated from the NCAA Women’s Coaches Academy in Denver, Colo. In 2009, Bush was once again honored by the PGA and was named the 2009 Bill Strausbaugh Award winner for community service. Currently, Amy serves as Secretary/Treasurer for the Board of Directors of the Southern Nevada Chapter PGA. Bush has more than 10 years of experience as a golf professional and is a Class A member of the PGA of America.

November 11, 1999 "Fore" UNLV Women's Golf A UNLV women's golf fundraiser, "Fore," sponsored by the UNLV Women's Sports Foundation and the Executive Women's Golf Association at the Desert Inn Country Club, raises $4,250 in hopes of generating support for a new women's squad at the university.
UNLV President Dr. Carol Harter announces the $3 million gift for women’s athletics.
March 9, 2000 Major Gift As part of a $3 million gift to the University for women's sports, a $1 million endowment for women's golf is established. The rest of the gift, donated to UNLV by Donrey Media Group (now Eller Media); James Rogers, president of Sunbelt Communications; Jerry and Sue Lykins; and the Las Vegas Founders Club, is used in the construction of a new on-campus softball stadium and to help with the operating budget for the women's golf team. October 8, 2000 "Fore" UNLV Golf Women's Sports A second "Fore" fundraiser features a golf tournament held at Rhodes Ranch to raise funds for all of UNLV's women's athletics. More than $10,000 went to women's golf.
April 25, 2001 First Class Unveiled Hester announces her first-ever recruiting class, consisting of Las Vegan Erin Borcherts, junior phenoms Hwanhee Lee and Young Pak from Cerritos, Calif., prep star Tina Mabanta of Vancouver, B.C., and San Antonio native Angela Olivarri. June 15, 2001 A Home Is Found UNLV reaches an agreement with Anthem Country Club that the scenic venue overlooking the city will house the new program. The 7,300-yard, par-72 facility is one of the best in the Las Vegas valley and provides ample area for the team to practice on a regular basis. "We take pride in our role as host to an outstanding team of competitive golfers, and we all want to see the program succeed," says Jeff Seman, Director of Golf at Anthem.

In just her fourth tournament as a collegian, freshman Hwanhee Lee wins the Lady Aztec Invitational and leads the Rebels to a best-ever sixth-place finish. April 24, 2002 Writing The Record Book UNLV wraps up its inaugural season with a fifth-place finish at the Mountain West Conference Championship. On the final day of the tourney, the Rebels break 300 as a team for the first time, shooting 297 on the final day. Junior Erin Borcherts cards the best round of the season, firing an even-par 71, and also posts the team's best 54-hole score, a seven-over 220.

It is the second medalist title of Lee's career and a main reason that UNLV holds off Washington by five strokes to win the team title. The Rebels have two other golfers in the top 10 as Seema Sadekar finishes fourth with a 217 (+1) and Elena Kurokawa cards a 218 (+2) to finish fifth. April 4, 2005 Utah Three-Peat The BYU-Utah Dixie Classic figures to be on the Rebels' schedule for years to come as UNLV wins the tournament for the third consecutive year last season. UNLV battles rain and wind to win the tournament by 14 strokes, carding a tworound total of 617 (+41) to runaway from Arkansas. May 27, 2006 First-Time First Team Da Sol Chung makes UNLV history by becoming the first golfer to earn first team All-American accolades, as she is honored by the NGCA. Chung is just the second Rebel to be named an AllAmerican, joining former Rebel great Sunny Oh. July 1, 2006 A Major Debut Da Sol Chung continues her magical freshman season, qualifying for the 61st U.S. Women's Open and becoming the first Rebel golfer to play in an LPGA Major. Koelbaek is just the second golfer in program history to earn medalist honors at an NCAA Regional event. Koelbaek's strong three-day performance was part of a UNLV team score of 19-under 845, which is a program record for both tournament score and lowest total score to par. April 7, 2009 Rebels On Top In Hoosier State UNLV women's golf take home the team title and junior Natasha Krishna earns medalist honors at the Indiana Invitational, which was played under chilly conditions at Otter Creek Golf Club. UNLV ran away with team honors with a score of 931 (+67) that was good for a 13-stroke victory over Iowa State. Krishna finished with a three-round total of 225 (+9), and it was the second win of Krishna's collegiate career. June 9, 2009 Twice Is Nice For Koelbaek UNLV sophomore Therese Koelbaek earns Golfweek Honorable Mention AllAmerica for a second consecutive season. ALL-AMERICAN SUNNY OH The first All-American in the program's history, Sunny Oh set the standard for UNLV women's golf in her two years as a Rebel. A two-time All-American selection, Oh earned her first nod in 2003 as an NGCA honorable-mention selection as a freshman. She followed that by being named to the NGCA second team as a sophomore, as she won medalist honors at the MWC Tournament on her way to being named MWC Player of the Year.
ALL-AMERICAN DA SOL CHUNG Da Sol Chung became the second UNLV All-American selection after putting together the best season in the program's history in 2005-06. Chung won MWC Player of the Year honors and league medalist honors in 2006. She followed that with a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships, the highest finish ever by a MWC golfer. Chung garnered NGCA first-team honors, the first such honor for a Rebel golfer.
ALL-AMERICAN THERESE KOELBAEK Therese Koelbaek is the third UNLV player in program history to earn All-America honors, and second to earn the award twice. She was named to Golfweek's honorable mention team in 2008 and again in 2009. Koelbaek had a strong rookie year for the Rebels as she was named the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year, won two tournament, including sharing medalist honors at the 2008 NCAA West Regional.

ombining the excitement of an urban location with the charm of a traditional campus, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas offers students a full educational and social experience. Just decades old, UNLV has maintained a healthy rate of growth in enrollment, programs and scholastic excellence as part of the eight-component Nevada System of Higher Education. Located in the heart of one of the world’s most vibrant and dynamic cities, UNLV has matured along with the Las Vegas area. With enrollment more than doubling the last decade, the tremendous growth has meant a flurry of construction resulting in a campus setting boasting academic and athletic facilities second to none. Nevada with a total of 28 students, UNLV now is home to more than 28,000 students coming from every county in Nevada, all 50 U.S. states and 88 countries. Much of UNLV’s tremendous expansion is the result of support from the Nevada Legislature and the state’s taxpayers. Private donors have played an important role as well. DR. NEAL J. SMATRESK
r. Neal J. Smatresk was named President of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas on Aug. 6, 2009. Since 2007, he has served as Executive Vice President and Provost, where he is responsible for leadership and administration of all academic and research programs, spanning 15 colleges and two professional schools. Dr. Smatresk received his Ph.D. in zoology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1980. Following post-doctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, he joined the University of Texas, Arlington (UTA) department of biology in 1982. In his 22 years at UTA, he served as Chair of Biology and later Dean of Science, until his appointment as the chief academic offi cer at the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2004. During his tenure, the University of Hawaii at Manoa entered the ranks of the top

erry Koloskie, 52, was named UNLV’s Interim Athletics Director on Aug. 27, 2009, after Mike Hamrick accepted the athletics director position at Marshall. Prior to being named the acting AD, Koloskie was entering his 11th season as UNLV’s Senior Associate Athletics Director in 2009-10.

Ashley 2006-09 50 papers and book chapters, Neal Smatresk 2009-SA and grants from the National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health. As the chief academic officer of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Dr. Smatresk has led the efforts to forge a new strategic plan that commits to improving educational access and success for its diverse students, to provide regionally responsive research growth for the improvement and diversification of the Southern Nevada economic base, and to supply critically needed services for this rapidly growing region. In addition to his teaching and administrative roles, Smatresk has devoted considerable effort to kindergarten to doctorate (K-20) science outreach programs and teacher professional development and has participated in a number of consortia focused on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) career development. He has been deeply engaged in community college articulation efforts in Texas, Hawaii and now in Nevada and has worked to expand educational opportunity and access for underserved populations.
A member of the athletics department for the past 26 years, Koloskie, as senior associate athletics director, is directly responsible for overseeing all internal functions of the athletic department and serves as the sport administrator for men’s and women’s basketball, track and field, cross country and baseball. In addition, Koloskie oversees the daily operations of UNLV’s athletic training and strength & conditioning and athletic equipment departments and heads the senior athletics department staff. Koloskie played baseball for two years at Marietta (Ohio) College before graduating with a bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University in 1980. He earned his master’s in physical education from Iowa State University in 1981. A NATA Certifi ed Athletic Trainer since 1980, Koloskie moved to UNLV in 1982 to become Co-Head Athletic Trainer and spent nine years as head athletic trainer for the Rebel football team. In 1983 he became Head Athletic Trainer for all intercollegiate athletic teams at UNLV. Koloskie became the men’s basketball head athletic trainer in 1982 and spent 15 years with the Runnin’ Rebels as the athletic trainer for men’s basketball, including the 1990 NCAA
Championship season. In 1992 he was named Director of Athletic Training and in 1996 was promoted to Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Operations. Koloskie served on the NCAA Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports Committee from 20042008 and served as the Chair of the Committee from 2006-2008. He and his wife, Annette, have three children: sons John and Jim, and a daughter, Megan, as well as a granddaughter, Kaydence.

Bill Brady enters his fourth year as a member of UNLV’s Senior Staff serving as Associate Athletic Director for Development. Brady oversees fundraising for Rebel Athletics with a primary emphasis on major gifts. Also, he is responsible for the operation of the Rebel Athletic Fund which includes the Club Seat and Suite programs. Prior to joining the Rebels, Brady worked with current MWC member TCU as the director of the Frog Club as well as sales management roles with SFX Sports Group, Lone Star Park and the Cotton Bowl Classic. A former college football player, Brady earned his bachelor’s degree from Long Beach State and his master’s degree from Ohio University. He and his wife, Diana, are the parents of three boys: Cooper, Spencer and Turner.
TERRY COTTLE Associate AD/Football Operations Terry Cottle, 50, begins his 26th year in the UNLV Athletics Department and his ninth as an Associate Athletics Director. Cottle serves as the day-to-day administrator for the UNLV football program. A former Rebel football recruiting coordinator and assistant coach, Cottle spent 10 years with the football program before moving into an administrative capacity in 1994. A four-year starter at quarterback at St. Mary’s College in Moraga, Calif., Cottle earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education in 1980 before receiving his master’s degree in education from UNLV in 1985. Cottle and his wife, Catherine, have four children: Jessica, Ashley, Carly and Jason.
ANDY GROSSMAN Assistant AD/Media Relations and Communications Andy Grossman is the newest member of the UNLV Athletics Senior Staff, as he was named Assistant Athletics Director for Media Relations and Communications this fall. Grossman enters his 14th year with UNLV Athletics and he oversees the media relations and communication efforts for the athletics department. A 1996 graduate of the University of Arizona with a bachelor’s in media arts, Grossman came to UNLV as an intern, and he was hired as assistant sports information director in 1997. In February of 2000 he left to work at Mirage Resorts, Inc., in its public relations department. Later that year, Grossman came back to UNLV to work as director of media relations. In this position, he oversaw the sports information department and was the primary media contact for the men’s basketball and men’s golf programs, areas he is still currently responsible for. He and his wife Melissa have a daughter, Hannah (9), and two sons, Jake, (5) and Noah, born on Dec. 18, 2008.
CHRISTIAN HARDIGREE Associate AD/Community Development and Special Projects Christian Hardigree joined the UNLV Senior Staff this fall and is the Associate Athletics Director for Community Development and Special Projects, where she will focus on sport specific fundraising initiatives, community marketing projects and will also assist with other special projects. Hardigree most recently served as UNLV’s Assistant President/Chief of Staff and was an associate professor and the department chair for UNLV’s Hotel Management Department in the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration. In the College of Hotel Administration, Hardigree teaches both graduate and undergraduate classes. She has been teaching courses at UNLV since 1997. In addition to her educational obligations, Hardigree has an extensive background as a trial attorney practicing primarily in the areas of premises liability, security/safety, products liability and employment law. She maintains an active caseload at the firm Parnell & Associates. Hardigree earned her bachelor’s degree from UNLV in 1993 and earned her law degree in 1996 from Mercer University.
Lisa Kelleher begins her 18th season as UNLV’s Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator. In her position, Kelleher provides administrative oversight to the day-to-day operations of nine of the school’s 17 varsity sports as well as various events related to the 10 women’s programs. In addition, Kelleher oversees gender equity and diversity issues, and is a member of the UNLV Athletics Hall of Fame committee. Kelleher also serves the Mountain West Conference on the Joint Council as liaison to men’s golf and as host to the 2010 MWC Tennis Championships. A 1979 graduate of Miami (Ohio) University, Kelleher earned her master’s degree from the University of Arizona in 1980. Kelleher, a doctoral candidate in the UNLV Higher Education Leadership program, intends to defend her dissertation and graduate this year. Kelleher and her husband, Peter, have four daughters: Molly (29), Bridget (24), Megan (15) and Tara (13). Molly is married to Jeremy Dutton.
ERIK SCHWARZ Assistant AD/Operations & Facilities Erik Schwarz enters his fourth year as a member of the UNLV Senior Staff as Assistant Athletics Director for Operations. The 16-season veteran of UNLV athletics oversees the athletic facilities and game operations for all Rebel sports programs. Prior to joining the Senior Staff, Schwarz spent seven seasons as director of game operations for the Rebels and four working with the licensing program. A native of Bowie, Md., Schwarz is a 1993 graduate of West Virginia University with a degree in sports management. He received his master’s degree in kinesiology from UNLV in 1997. He married the former Maggie Hausbeck on June 25, 2006.
ERIC TOLIVER Associate AD/Compliance Eric Toliver, 39, enters his 18th year at UNLV and 10th year as the Associate Athletics Director for Administration and Compliance after taking over the Director of NCAA Compliance duties midway through the 1998-99 school year. A 1992 graduate of Western State College (Co.), Toliver’s responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of NCAA regulations and conducting internal and external investigations to ensure that UNLV’s 17 Division I sports, staff and coaches remain in compliance with NCAA regulations. Toliver, who is also an appointed member of the NCAA Division I Amateurism Fact- Finding Committee, is also responsible for supervision of the UNLV softball program and oversees all UNLV student-athlete conduct and discipline related matters. He also supervises the UNLV Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and serves as the chair of the institution’s Compliance Committee.
PERK WEISENBURGER Associate AD/External Operations Perk Weisenburger enters his fifth year as a member of the UNLV Senior Staff as the Associate Athletics Director for External Operations. Weisenburger oversees the coordination and operation of athletic marketing and promotions, licensing and athletic ticketing, and serves as the department’s liaison to muilti-media rights partner International Sports Properties (ISP). In conjunction with ISP, Weisenburger oversaw the installation of $3.5 million worth of new LED video and scoreboard equipment for UNLV’s facilities. Prior to coming to UNLV in April of 2005, Weisenburger spent five years as the Director of Athletics at Illinois State University and previously worked administratively at Wake Forest, Central Michigan, Washington and Houston. A former college baseball player, Weisenburger is a 1979 graduate of Central Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He earned his master’s in sports administration from Ohio University in 1982. He and wife, Buffy, are the parents of two sons: Jack and Joe.

LIED ATHLETIC COMPLEX
Opened in 1996, the $8.5 million Lied Athletic Complex remains one of the nation’s premier on-campus sports facilities. The Lied, honored with Athletic Management magazine’s 1997 Award of Excellence, was exclusively funded by private donations beginning with a cornerstone gift of $4 million from the Lied Foundation Trust, through its trustee Ms. Christina Hixson, in 1993. A generous $1.5 million gift from Si and Marilyn Redd provided the Lied with a state-of-the-art sports medicine center for preventative and rehabilitative care. This 8,500-square-foot center includes a doctor’s office and examination room, a taping room, an aquatic therapy room, two additional therapy and rehabilitation areas and a self-contained drug-testing facility.
The Ernie Becker Sr. Strength and Conditioning Center features 8,500 square feet of main floor containing Olympic platforms, free weights, power racks and more than 60 weight stations. Additionally, a 1,200-square-foot balcony offers areas for plyometrics, stretching and aerobics. The Lied’s 10,000-square-foot equipment center provides studentathlete support service featuring laundry, equipment and storage. The Conrad Hilton Foundation provided funding for the Barron Hilton Auditorium located inside the Lied Athletic Complex. This 328-seat auditorium provides student-athletes with study hall facilities including individual meeting rooms for tutorial support and team meetings. Designed with all Rebel sports in mind, the Lied Athletic Complex offers every student-athlete the best possible environment to pursue their athletic and academic dreams.

One of the premier on-campus athletic and entertainment facilities in the nation, the 18,500-seat Thomas & Mack Center is primarily home to the world-famous UNLV Runnin’ Rebel Basketball team. The venue, which underwent a multimillion dollar renovation in 1999 that included a new exterior look, hosted the 2007 NBA All-Star Weekend.

With seating for up to 2,000 fans, the Frank and Vicki Fertitta Tennis Complex is unquestionably one of the nation’s finest and most complete collegiate tennis facilities. Opened in 1992, the complex recently underwent a $2 million upgrade.
JIM ROGERS FIELD AT ELLER MEDIA STADIUM Thanks to donations from Eller Media, Jim Rogers, Jerry and Sue Lykins, other UNLV Athletics donors, and the UNLV Foundation, the Rebel softball team began play at Eller Media Stadium in the spring of 2002. The newest facility on campus was completed in November 2001 at a cost of $2.7 million and provides accommodations for 770 fans.

The home of the UNLV swimming and diving team boasts a 50-meter indoor pool with a 25-yard deepend course for racing. The facility, which features spectator seating for 1,200, has hosted several national and regional meets.

Named after two greats in Southern Nevada track and field, the Myron Partridge Stadium and Sheila Tarr Smith field is one of the top collegiate track and field facilities in the country. Nine 48-inch lines circle the track, complete with a steeplechase bar and pit, two pole vault pits, two high jump areas, two long jump/triple jump lanes, two shot put slabs, ample room for hammer and javelin events and seating for up to 1,000 spectators.

No less than three national championships were celebrated as part of last fall’s UNLV Athletics Hall of Fame ceremonies held on Sept. 19, 2008. Five former Rebel players (including the 17th football honoree all-time), one longtime head coach and a distinguished contributor joined two record-setting teams in being inducted. Born in 1987, UNLV’s Athletic Hall of Fame will now grow to 96 members strong. Under the hall’s bylaws, former studentathletes must have completed their eligibility at least 10 years earlier to be selected. Coaches and administrators must have stopped working at the University five years previous. All classes now enter on a biennial basis. TIM BLENKIRON (1994-97) was one of the best doubles players in school history and paired up with Luke Smith to win the 1997 NCAA Doubles Championship, becoming one of six individual national champions at UNLV. The 1997 All-American was a member of three Big West Conference champion squads. JOE KRISTOSIK (1995-98) was UNLV football’s first consensus first team All-American after being a four-year starter as a punter for the Rebels. He turned in one of the best seasons at his position in college football history as a senior in 1998 while leading the nation with an average of 46.2, which was the second-highest in NCAA history for a punter with at least 75 attempts. KIM RONDINA (1994-97) was the greatest slugger in UNLV softball history and its only two-time conference MVP. She was named first team All-America in 1995 and third team in 1996 and ‘97. Helping the Rebels to three NCAA tournament appearances, including one trip the Women’s College World Series, Rondina still holds 13 single-season and career batting records. LUKE SMITH (1994-97) stands as the only multiple NCAA champion in UNLV athletics history after winning the 1997 national title in singles and doubles. A three-time All-American, he also was a 1996 NCAA Doubles Semifinalist. Smith was a member of the 1997 Davis Cup Team for his native Australia and twice reached the fourth round of the Australian Open in doubles. MARIANNE VALLIN (1994-97) becomes the first UNLV women’s tennis player to enter the hall of fame. A three-time conference MVP, she was All-American in singles three times after being named the ITA National Freshman of the Year. The winningest singles player in program history, she brought home the 1997 Gladys Heldman Award, which goes to the nation’s top women’s tennis student-athlete. The 1998 UNLV MEN’S GOLF TEAM is one of only two Rebel squads to earn a national championship as head coach Dwaine Knight’s team won the 1998 NCAA team title in Albuquerque, N.M. The Rebels shot a final-round one-over par 289 to finish at 34-under-par 1,118, which set the NCAA record for lowest total in history. The 1995 UNLV WOMEN’S SOFTBALL TEAM set or tied 30 different school team records and 17 single-season marks en route to tying the record for wins with a 49-14 record. Coached by Shan McDonald, it was the first UNLV softball squad to win an outright conference title and finished third at the Women’s College World Series. HEAD COACH AL MCDANIELS (1975-92) guided the women’s track and field program to five conference championships and produced more than 60 individual champions and 40 All-Americans. The four-time conference coach of the year produced two NCAA Champions and six league MVPs. DISTINGUISHED CONTRIBUTOR DR. JAMES CALLAWAY D.D.S. is a nationally respected dentist who has been part of the Rebel family for three decades, serving as the team dentist since 1977.
