Picture to the right (from left to righ starting with the back row) is Assistant Coach Erin Andrews, junior Charlotte Brooks, junior Katerina Prorokova, senior Ellis Keenan, sophomore Dana Finkelstein, head coach Amy BushHerzer, (front row from left to right) junior Demi Mak, freshman Anna-Lena Kraemer, sophomore Mayko Chwen Wang and sophomore Marguerite Swearingen. Providing the best possible preventive and rehabilitative care, the UNLV women's golf athletic training staff is headed by Director of Athletic Training Kyle Wilson. Made possible by a generous gift of $1.5 million by Marilyn and Si Redd, the athletic training facility incorporates the total scope of sports medicine over an 8,500-square-foot area. Aside from five staff offices, a rehabilitation room houses a dozen pieces of equipment including Cybex stationary bicycles, stair machines and treadmills, all under a natural skylight. The largest area features a dozen tables to offer student-athletes various treatments throughout the day. Taping, padding and bracing all take place in another all-inclusive room. Finally, an aquatic therapy room features three above-ground whirlpools surrounding a 10-feet deep pool for rehabilitative exercises. All of these features make it possible for UNLV student-athletes to rehabilitate injuries without ever needing to leave the Lied Athletic Complex. Other amenities include a physician's office and exam room to provide daily medical service for student-athletes. A drug-testing facility also is part of the new complex. This expedites medical care because the student-athletes health care is self-contained. Also, UNLV's academic program and its student athletic trainers benefit from a sports medicine library, study room and conferKyle Wilson ence facility. Director of "Aside from being four times larger than our former facility," says Kyle Wilson, UNLV's Director of Athletic Training. "This is one of Athletics Training the top complexes in the nation because of the versatility it offers to service student-athletes in every area of sports medicine. We're now more efficient, more acce sible and more effective in preventing and rehabilitating athletic injuries."

Spring Season Outlook After a strong fall season, the UNLV Women's Golf team is ready to contend for a Mountain West title this spring. "The last two years we have come home with second place," head coach Amy Bush-Herzer said. "And while that has been a really good learning experience it’s not as much fun when you can’t bring home the hardware." The Rebels are coming off of five straight top-10 performances this fall, including three top-
3 finishes. That momentum will be needed as the Rebels will travel to all four tournaments this spring. "Each tournament that we go into this spring is just as important as the NCAA nationals for us," Bush-Herzer said. "We are going to prepare for each event as it is our biggest one of the season. We have a tough spring schedule and every tournament is just big." At the end of April, the Rebels will get a shot at a conference crown when they travel to Rancho Mi-

rage, Calif., for the Mountain West Championship. "Our spring season leads us into the conference tournament where the ultimate goal is for us to come home with a trophy," Bush-Herzer said. "I think the student-athletes want it as much as we do as a coaching staff. It is fun to hear them say that and they mention that quite a bit to us in practice and workouts. Our ultimate goal is to be the 2013 Mountain West champions." However, for the first time since 2004, UNLV will not host a tournament this spring. While the team will not have the comfort of a "home-field" advantage, it will not affect the mindset of the players or coaches negatively. "I think it helps the team from a coaching perspective because we can be on the course with them at all times and not have to worry about running an event," BushHerzer said. "The nice thing is that we don’t travel too far this spring, so I don’t feel that it will be an issue for us. This will be the only year we are not hosting a spring tournament." The Rebels will be searching for their fourth conference title and their 11th consecutive trip to the NCAA Regionals. The 2013 sites will be on May 9-11 at Auburn, Ala. for the East Regional, Norman, Okla. for the Central Regional and Palo Alto, Calif. for the West Regional. It all leads to the NCAA Championship in Athens, Ga. on May 21-24.

Head Coach
Amy Bush-Herzer Head Coach 3rd year Amy Bush-Herzer is in her third season as head coach of the UNLV women's golf program, haven taken over the reins of a perennial competitor in June of 2010. During the 2011-12 season, Bush-Herzer helped guide the Rebels to their 11th straight NCAA Regional berth, posting nine top-10 finishes in 11 events. UNLV posted top-five finishes at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown (5th), UNLV Spring Invitational (2nd), Bruin/Wave Invitational (4th) and at the Mountain West Championship Tournament, finishing runner-up to TCU. Under Bush-Herzer's guidance, current golfers Dana Finkelstein and Mayko Chwen Wang became the fourth and fifth UNLV golfers to be named Mountain West Freshmen of the Year (2012). One year earlier, Therese Koelbaek became the fourth women's golfer to earn MW Player of the Year honors (2011). The Denmark native dominated all season, racking up 10 top-10 finishes in 11 events, including winning the MW Championship Tournament by a record-tying seven-stroke margin. Koelbaek became the first golfer in program history to earn All-MW honors four straight years and collected a slew of postseason accolades, including the 2011 Mountain West Female Scholar Athlete of the Year and a CoSIDA Capital One Academic AllAmerica First Team selection. The 2010-11 squad also earned the program's first top-25 finish in the nation in team GPA, tying for 24th on the National Golf Coaches Association's top 25 listing. UNLV was the highest nationally ranked team to appear on the list. Before taking over, Bush-Herzer had spent the previous three years as the top assistant to former head coach Missy Ringler. During that time the Rebels made three consecutive appearances in NCAA Regional competition and one trip to the NCAA Championships, where they turned in a program-best finish of 16th overall in 2008. Since 2007, the program has posted 25 top10 finishes in regular-season tournament play. "Amy has developed into an outstanding coach, one who can identify talent and gets top recruits signed to our program," Senior Associate Athletic Director Lisa Kelleher said. "These talented student-athletes have thrived under her leadership. Our team
continues to make great progress in the national rankings and proudly boasts a high team GPA. UNLV is fortunate to have Amy as our Women's Golf Coach." Prior to joining Ringler's staff, Bush-Herzer was the Chapter Coordinator for the Southwest Section PGA, where she was responsible for the overall operations for Las Vegas from 2005 to 2007. She was the tournament director for numerous events, including the PGA Junior Series, Arizona Open and the Southwest Section Championship. She earned the 2006 Las Vegas Chapter Golf Professional of the Year while working at the Southwest Section PGA. Bush-Herzer served as the assistant golf professional from 2001-05 at SouthShore Golf Club at Lake Las Vegas Resort, working on the day-to-day operations at the course. She also served as an assistant golf professional for the TPC at Summerlin where she assisted with a PGA Tour event and a Champions Tour event. Bush-Herzer graduated from New Mexico State in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in business administration with a specialization in professional golf management from a program that is sanctioned by the PGA. In 2007, Bush completed her master's degree in Sports and Leisure Management from UNLV. Bush graduated from the NCAA Women's Coaches Academy in Denver, Colo., in June 2008. In 2010, she also attended the NCAA Women's Coaches Academy Dimension 2, which was held in Boston, Mass. Bush-Herzer has more than 12 years of experience as a golf professional and is a Class A member of the PGA of America. In addition to coaching, Bush is active with the PGA, serving as the President for the Southern Nevada Section PGA (the first woman to be elected to that post) and also a board member for the Southwest Section PGA. She has also presented at the PGA Fall Expo Main Stage and serving on the boards of The First Tee and Southern Nevada Golf Association. In 2009, Bush-Herzer was again honored by the PGA and was named the 2009 Bill Strausbaugh Award winner for community service. In 2011, Bush attended the NACWAA Institute in Denver, Colorado. Bush-Herzer was married to Kendall Herzer on August 7, 2010. The couple resides in Las Vegas, NV.

Assistant Coach
Erin Andrews Assistant Coach 2nd Year
Erin Andrews was hired as assistant coach for the UNLV women's golf team during the summer of 2011. Andrews, a Las Vegas native and graduate of Durango High School, lettered four times for the University of Oregon Ducks and was a 2004 All-Pac-10 Conference honoree. "We are excited to add Erin to our program," Bush-Herzer said. "Erin's experience within various sports programs will be a great asset to the women's golf team here at UNLV. She understands the hard work that goes into building a successful team, bringing a wealth of knowledge from both on and off the golf course." Andrews led Durango HS to two state titles before accepting
a full scholarship to Oregon in 2003. She opened her sophomore season with the Ducks winning the Lady Vandal Fall Invitational, becoming UO's first medalist winner in two seasons in the process. She tied for the team lead in scoring average that season en route to all-conference honors. She capped her career with a 15th-place finish at the 2006 Pac-10 Championship, the highest Duck finisher in the tournament. Andrews still sits among the top 10 in the record books at UO, standing tied for seventh for career rounds played (109) and for rounds counted, factoring in the top five in 87.2 percent of rounds played. Andrews was a qualifier for the USGA Junior Girls Championship in 2002 and the Women's Amateur in 2004, 2005 and 2007. Last fall she joined Bush in helping lead a clinic for the promotion of women's golf at the annual Justin Timberlake Shriner's Hospital for Children Open.

2012 In Review Spring 2012
Coming into the spring of 2012, the Rebels were excited about strong performances from the underclassmen. Freshman Dana Finkelstein and Mayko Chwen Wang anchored the Rebels throughout the spring. The duo was named Mountain West CoFreshmen of the Year, the fourth and fifth UNLV players to earn the award. "For the first time in conference history having two freshmen get named Mountain West Freshman of the year from the same school was huge for our program," head coach Amy Bush-Herzer said. Finkelstein's best finishes came at home in the UNLV Spring Invitational where she finished third, and then finished tied for third at the Mountain West Championship. Chwen Wang led the Rebels at The Battle at Rancho Bernardo when she tied for fourth place. As a team, the Rebels turned in two runner-up performances. The first was at their home tournament, the UNLV Spring Invitational and UNLV finished with a score of 891 (290-296-305). The second came at the Mountain West Championship with a score of 909 (311-306-292). "Overall it was a great learning experience for the whole team," Bush-Herzer said. "We really came on strong in the spring. Finishing second at our home tournament catapulted us into being able to make Regionals and to perform well at our conference tournament. It is always a nice to have the top conference team be worried about your team nipping at their heels and we certainly gave them a run for the money."
The second-place finish at the conference tournament earned the Rebels an atlarge bid into the NCAA Regionals, which would be the team's 10th straight appearance. "10 straight, for as young as the program is, just shows that we are here to stay," Bush-Herzer said. "We don’t have to keep proving ourselves anymore. We are looking forward to just continuing that streak. We have such a great history with our program with great players. We are creating a wonderful alumni base." The Rebels finished 11th at the NCAA West Regional with a score of 896 (302301-293) to cap off the season. "We were relatively new last season," Bush-Herzer said. "We had five new student-athletes on our team. To have them all come together was huge. Each one was a contributor and they really came together. It didn’t matter who we put in the lineup, they were all there to perform, and that is the ultimate goal of any team."
Fall 2012
The second consecutive runner-up MW finish and the 10th straight regional appearance laid the groundwork for the fall of 2012. The Rebels met their fall expectations with three top-three finishes and five top-10 finishes in five tournaments. The Rebels opened the season with a third-place finish at the Colonel Bill Wollenberg's Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Fort Collins, Colo., with a score of 891 (298296-297). Sophomore Mayko Chwen Wang paced the Rebels en route to a tie for 10th with a score of 220 (72-75-73)
Freshmen Dana Finkelstein and Mayko Chwen Wang were named Mountain West Co-Freshmen of the year.
The second tournament of the season saw the Rebels have an overnight lead going into the final round, but finished second -one stroke behind Iowa State-with a score of 887 (293-295-299). Sophomore Dana Finkelstein and junior Charlotte Brooks tied for 13th as the top Rebel finishers with scores of 221 (76-72-73, 73-72-76, respectively). UNLV turned in a sixth place finish in the third tournament of the fall at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Seattle, Wash., with a score of 927 (308-301-318). Finkelstein placed tied for 13th, which was the top finisher with a score of 227 (78-71-78). Finkelstein led the Rebels for a third consecutive week at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown at Stallion Mountain Golf Club, turning in her first top-five finish of the season with a score of 220 (73-75-72) finishing fifth. As a team, the Rebels finished third with a score of 898 (302-305-291). Junior transfer Demi Mak paced the team at the final tournament in Austin, Texas, finishing tied for 15th with a score of 219 (73-73-73). Mak joined the Rebels after spending two successful seasons at New Mexico State. "Demi brings a lot of leadership capabilities and tournament experience," Amy Bush-Herzer said. "It has been great to have her as an addition and she has a great personality and fits in well with this team." The Rebels closed the autumn slate by finishing 10th at the Betsy Rawls Invitational with a score of 898 (298-298-302). "The fall was great for us, we came right out of the chute strong. As a coaching staff we thought we would have a good fall," Bush-Herzer said. "I think we definitely capitalized on that. Finishing third and then having an overnight lead at New Mexico was a huge confidence builder for the team. Now our players know that we can do it and what our potential is, and that is what needed to happen. To have these student-athletes come in and play five events in fall and still do well with grades and maintaining a life, there is a lot to be said about them."

Rebel History November 11, 1999 "Fore" UNLV Women's Golf A UNLV women's golf fundraiser, "Fore," sponsored by the UNLV Women's Sports Foundation and the Executive Women's Golf Association at the Desert Inn Country Club, raises $4,250 in hopes of generating support for a new women's squad at the university. March 9, 2000 Major Gift As part of a $3 million gift to the University for women's sports, a $1 million endowment for women's golf is established. The rest of the gift, donated to UNLV by Donrey Media Group (now Eller Media); James Rogers, president of Sunbelt Communications; Jerry and Sue Lykins; and the Las Vegas Founders Club, is used in the construction of a new on campus softball stadium and to help with the operating budget for the women's golf team. October 8, 2000 "Fore" UNLV Golf Women's Sports A second "Fore" fundraiser features a golf tournament held at Rhodes Ranch to raise funds for all of UNLV's women's athletics. More than $10,000 went to women's golf. January 8, 2001 Enter Hester Kelley Hester is hired as the first women's golf coach at UNLV.

UNLV All-Americans
Sunny Oh
The first All-American in the program's history, Sunny Oh set the standard for UNLV women's golf in her two years as a Rebel. A two-time All-America selection, Oh earned her first nod in 2003 as a NGCA honorable mention as a freshman. She followed that by being named to the NGCA second team as a sophomore, as she won medalist honors at the MW Tournament on her way to being named conference Player of the Year.
Da Sol Chung Da Sol Chun became the second UNLV All-America selection after putting together the best season in the program's history in 2005-06. Chung won MW Player of the Year honors and league medalist honors in 2006. She followed that with a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships, the highest finish ever by a MW golfer. Chung garnered NGCA first-team honors, the first such honor for a Rebel golfer.
Therese Koelbaek
Therese Koelbaek is the only player in UNLV women's golf history to earn All-America honors three times. She was named to Golfweek's third team following a standout senior season after earning honorable mention honors in 2008 and 2009. Koelbaek finished her career as the 2011 Mountain West Golfer of the Year and won medalist honors at the 2011 MW Championship Tournament.

UNLV
Combining the excitement of an urban location with the charm of a traditional campus, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas offers students a full educational and social experience. Just over five decades old, UNLV has maintained a healthy rate of growth in enrollment, programs and scholastic excellence as part of the eight-component Nevada System of Higher Education. Located in the heart of one of the world’s most vibrant and dynamic cities, UNLV has matured along with the Las Vegas area. With enrollment more than doubling the last decade, the tremendous growth has meant a flurry of construction resulting in a campus setting boasting academic and athletic facilities second to none. Steadily becoming a traditional residential university, UNLV provides on-campus housing for more than 2,000 students. A variety of student clubs and organizations along with 37 Greek organizations supplement the social development of students. From within its 15 schools and colleges, including the William S. Boyd School of Law, UNLV is also becoming a leading research institution of the West. The school’s scientific, social science, and business programs attract millions of dollars in research grants annually to fund projects in desert biology, nuclear waste transportation, laser physics, public opinion surveys and many others. In addition to traditional student programs, UNLV serves diverse local, national and international communities through its Educational Outreach Division, offering Summer Term, Continuing Education and Distance Education programs enrolling more than 53,000 students annually.

With its Performing Arts Center, the campus is the cultural hub of Southern Nevada. World-class orchestras and soloists, dance and theater arts combine to provide a broad selection of concerts and stage productions. The Barrick Lecture Series and several campus organizations bring noted speakers to the University, and local and visiting artists show their works in the Donna Beam Fine Art Gallery. UNLV has excellent athletic facilities as well, many open for student and public use. Opened in 1957 as the southern regional division of the University of Nevada with a total of 28 students, UNLV now is home to more than 27,000 students coming from every county in Nevada, all 50 U.S. states and 88 countries. Much of UNLV’s tremendous expansion is the result of support from the Nevada Legislature and the state’s taxpayers. Private donors have played an important role as well. These gifts support new facilities and programs and, most important, provide the scholarship incentives that bring Nevada’s best and brightest student scholars to campus. UNLV operates an on-campus Center for Business and Economic Research, Center for Economic Education, Harry Reid Center for Environmental Studies (in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency), Desert Biology Research Center, Center for Survey Research, Nuclear Waste Transportation Research Center and other research and public-service centers. Offering 108 undergraduate programs and 137 graduate tracts, UNLV graduated a class of 5,500 last year. The University operates on a semester system and is a member of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, the Council of Graduate Schools, the American Council of Education and the Western College Association. All of the University’s academic programs are fully accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges, and many programs have received further accreditation from independent national accreditation bodies.

SMATRESK
Dr. Neal J. Smatresk was appointed president of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas on Aug. 6, 2009. Today, he leads a campus that is committed to serving Nevada by creating an educated workforce and forging community and business partnerships to move our state economy forward. Smatresk emphasizes UNLV’s role as a first choice institution dedicated to educational access and success for diverse students. Under Smatresk’s direction, UNLV established the Academic Success Center, which is living up to its name by helping students identify the right majors, succeed in their classes, and graduate on time. Student athletes are advised through the center, and are excelling academically. UNLV is a collaborative university that crosses internal and external boundaries. A testament to Smatresk’s vision is UNLV’s partnership with the highly respected Brookings Institution to establish Brookings Mountain West, the national think tank’s first foray this side of the Mississippi. Through this partnership and a commitment to respond to the state’s workforce demands, UNLV is driving research and innovation needed to diversify the region’s economic base and provide critically needed services for a dynamic region. Smatresk is a scientist by training and received his Ph.D. in zoology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1980. Following post-doctoral work at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Smatresk joined the University of Texas, Arlington (UTA) department of biology in 1982. In his 22 years at UTA, he served as chair of biology and later dean of science, until his appointment as the chief academic officer at the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2004. During his time there, Hawaii’s flagship university entered the ranks of the top 25 federally funded institutions, gained three National Academy of Science members, and received recognition from the Chinese Ministry of Education as a Confucius Institute, an honor shared by only 11 other U.S. institutions. His career at UNLV began in 2007 as executive vice president and provost, where he was responsible for the leadership and administration of all academic and research programs, spanning 15 colleges and two professional schools. President Smatresk has received numerous teaching awards, and his research in cardio respiratory physiology has resulted in more than 50 papers and book chapters and grants from the National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health. His undergraduate alma mater, Gettysburg College, awarded him its Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award in 2011.

LIVENGOOD
Bringing with him a wealth of experience and the reputation as one of the nation’s top administrators, Jim Livengood was introduced as UNLV’s 11th full-time Director of Athletics on Dec. 17, 2009. He wasted no time getting to work, as less than two weeks later he hired Bobby Hauck as the 10th head coach in Rebel football history. Just three months after that it was announced that a new, state-of-the-art basketball practice facility, the Mendenhall Center, would be built and that stunning addition to the department was dedicated in January 2012. In spring of 2011, Livengood chose Dave Rice to be head coach of the Runnin’ Rebel men’s basketball team and the veteran AD has also overseen the hiring of new coaches in UNLV sports such as baseball, softball and women’s volleyball. This past June, the State Board of Regents approved a new contract for Livengood that will keep him running the department through at least December 2015. Livengood came to UNLV following a successful tenure of more than 15 years at the University of Arizona where he oversaw an athletics program that annually competed for championships not only in the Pac-10 Conference but also at a national level, maintained a high academic
standard for its student-athletes and continually operated its $43 million budget in the black. His fiscal leadership helped Arizona remain one of the lone black-ink athletics programs among a small handful of institutions that rely exclusively on generated funds and do not receive state-appropriated monies. During his time in Tucson, he served as the Pacific-10 Conference president, chair of the Pac-10 Athletic Directors Revenue Sharing Committee and a member of the conference’s Bowl Committee and Basketball Tournament Subcommittee. He also was a member of the Rose Bowl Management Committee, the NCAA Fellows program, NACDA President, and chair of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee, on which he served five years. His work at Arizona and its ascension on the national level earned him an Athletic Director of the Year Award from the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics in 2006 for Division I-A. Livengood initiated Campaign Arizona, which raised more than $130 million for athletic facility improvements and endowments while the Wildcats maintained a top-25 competitive record in the NACDA Directors’ Cup (formerly Sears Cup), including high rankings of sixth in 1993-94, fourth in 1994-95, seventh in 1995-96, sixth in both 1996-97 and 1997-98 and ninth in 2001-02. That record reflects success throughout Arizona’s broad-based program, highlighted by participation in the 1994 and 2001 NCAA Men’s Final Four and champions of the 1997 NCAA Men’s National Basketball Tournament. Arizona also won the 1994, 1996, 1997, 2001, 2006 and 2007 NCAA Women’s Softball College World Series titles, the 1996 and 2000 NCAA Women’s Golf title and the 2008 men’s and women’s NCAA Swimming Championships. Livengood is a member of the NCAA Fellows Program to mentor new athletic directors, has served as a member of the NCAA Peer Review Team from 1994-99, the NCAA Gender Equity Task Force, and the Women’s Committee on Athletics. He has been a member of the NACDA Preseason Football Games Committee since

HALL OF FAME HALL HALL OF OF FAME FAME HALL OF FAME
Class of 2012
EIGHT INDIVIDUALS, ONE TEAM ELECTED TO UNLV HALL OF FAME
Albrecht
Diaconescu
Frohlich
Miller
Seven different Rebel sports will be represented during ceremonies this fall as the UNLV Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2012 will be honored Oct. 12. Six former Rebel standout players, one head coach and a distinguished contributor will join one team in being inducted the night before the Battle for the Fremont Cannon football game between UNLV and Nevada, Reno. Born in 1987, UNLV’s Athletics Hall of Fame will now grow to 114 members strong. Under the hall’s bylaws, former student-athletes must have completed their eligibility at least 10 years earlier to be selected. Coaches and administrators must have stopped working at the University five years previous. All classes now enter on a biennial basis. The winningest coach in UNLV tennis history, FRED ALBRECHT led the Rebel netters from 1974-83 and compiled a record of 230-80 for a winning percentage of .742. A longtime administrator on campus, Albrecht was called upon to serve as Interim Athletics Director in both 1995 and 2003 during searches for permanent replacements. He retired from UNLV in 2007 after 38 years with a final title of vice president for university and community relations. LORENA DIACONESCU is arguably the Rebels women’s swimming program’s most decorated athlete. She won three consecutive Conference Swimmer of the Year awards from 2000-02 while setting school records in six separate events. Diaconescu earned All-America in 2000 and was honorable mention one year later. Winner of eight MW individual crowns as well as seven relay titles, she was also a two-time Olympian for her home country of Romania. The highest-scoring basketball player in UNLV history – men’s or women’s – LINDA FROHLICH finished with 2,355 points and a 21.2 PPG average in her dominating hoops career. The native of Oldendorf, Germany, was named USBWA National Freshman of the Year in 1999, AP Honorable Mention All-America as a sophomore and junior and then Third Team as a senior. Those seasons also saw Frohlich win Mountain West Player of the Year honors three straight years from 2000-02 before going on to a pro career in the WNBA and overseas. Entering the Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Contributor is noted Las Vegas artist and illustrator MIKE MILLER. During the 1980s, Miller created and named the cartoon man with the long moustache known as “Hey Reb.” Miller was paid a single dollar for his work, which eventually helped UNLV vault to the top spot in college apparel licensing. Still the leading Runnin’ Rebel scorer in history, EDDIE OWENS was the emerging program’s second AllAmerican in men’s basketball when he was tabbed First Team by a pair of outlets as a junior in 1976. A magical se-
nior season saw him star as part of the so-called “Hardway Eight” team that gained fame by setting NCAA records for most points in a season, most 100-point games and most consecutive 100-point games en route to the school’s first Final Four appearance. JACINT SMION turned in a career in the water that rivaled any in school history. The Mountain West Swimmer of the Year three consecutive seasons earned All-America honors at the 2000 NCAA Championships while also being honorable mention in two relays. His fourth All-America finish came in 2002. Simon won 10 conference championships as an individual and one on a relay team and swam for his home nation of Hungary in the 2000 Summer Olympics. AMIE STEWART was a dominant pitcher for dominant softball program in the mid-1990s. A second team All-America selection as a senior in 1995, her 30-9 mark is still the school record for wins a season. She led her team all the way to the Women’s College World Series and tossed two complete games while finishing with a .95 ERA en route to becoming the only Rebel to be named to a WCWS All-Tournament Team. Arguably the top cornerback in school history, KEVIN THOMAS still holds numerous school and conference defensive records. The first player in school history to start 46 games, Thomas was the first defensive player from UNLV to earn All-America status in 26 years when he was named Third Team by Football News and Fourth Team by Sporting News. After helping his team win the Las Vegas Bowl as a junior, he became the program’s second three-time first team all-conference honoree and he was named the MW Defensive Player of the Year in 2001. The 1984 UNLV FOOTBALL TEAM was the first of two in school history to win a conference championship and its 11-2 overall record included a victory over Toledo in the California Bowl. Going undefeated in the PCAA, the talent-rich squad featured the conference Offensive Player of the Year in All-America punter/quarterback Randall Cunningham; the Defensive Player of the Year in lineman Aaron Moog; and the Coach of the Year in Harvey Hyde. Also being honored at the ceremony is the 2012 winner of the Silver Rebel Award -- former UNLV quarterback and longtime ESPN personality KENNY MAYNE.
