& CONDITIONING
UNLV women's golf strength and conditioning program, under the guidance of Jodi Nash-Sabataso, is geared towards developing student-athletes' athletic potential through a personalized program that focuses on generating power and strength as well as increasing flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. Benefitting from an individualized conditioning regimen implemented by Nash-Sabataso and her assistant, Kyle Hanson, Rebel players follow a year-round system stressing the development of strength, power, speed and plyometrics. "At UNLV we focus on the needs of each individual athlete," Nash-Sabataso said. "Our athletes get the attention and devotion needed to ensure they are as best prepared to compete at the highest level." Nash-Sabataso enters her seventh season as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at UNLV. In addition to the women's golf team, she is also responsibile for the year-round training of the women's basketball, women's track and cross country, women's soccer and softball teams. Prior to UNLV she worked on the strength and conditioning staffs at Harvard, Minnesota, Ohio State, Southern California, SMU and Holy Cross. She earned her undergraduate degree in exercise science ('96) and masters in strength and conditioning ('00) from Springfield College in Massachusetts and has served on the NSCA Code of Ethics Committee and also teaches a strength and conditioning class at UNLV. Kyle Hanson is in his second year as a graduate assistant with the UNLV strength and conditioning department. After earning associate degrees in health sciences and physical eduation in 2007, Hanson received his bachelor's degree in exercise science and health promotion from Colorado State University - Pueblo in 2009 and is currently working towards his masters in kinesiology here at UNLV. Complete with three offices, the 8,500-square-foot deck features free weights, power racks and 20 Olympic lifting platforms. UNLV's facility houses more than 60 weight stations and Hammer Strength Machines. The 1,200-square-foot second level offers stretching and aerobic area catered to each sport. The room also features a premium sound system to further enhance the workout experience. Providing the best possible preventive and rehabilitative care, the UNLV women's golf athletic training staff is headed by Director of Athletic Training Kyle Wilson. Made possible by a generous gift of $1.5 million by Marilyn and Si Redd, the athletic training facility incorporates the total scope of sports medicine over an 8,500-square-foot area. Aside from five staff offices, a rehabilitation room houses a dozen pieces of equipment including Cybex stationary bicycles, stair machines and treadmills, all under a natural skylight. The largest area features a dozen tables to offer student-athletes various treatments throughout the day. Taping, padding and bracing all take place in another all-inclusive room. Finally, an aquatic therapy room features three above-ground whirlpools surrounding a 10-feet deep pool for rehabilitative exercises. All of these features make it possible for UNLV student-athletes to rehabilitate injuries without ever needing to leave the Lied Athletic Complex. Other amenities include a physician's office and exam room to provide daily medical service for student-athletes. A drug-testing facility also is part of the new complex. This expedites medical care because the student-athletes health care is self-contained. Also, UNLV's academic program and its student athletic trainers benefit from a sports medicine library, study room and conference facility. "Aside from being four times larger than our former facility," says Kyle Wilson, UNLV's Director of Athletic Training. "This is one of the top complexes in the nation because of the versatility it offers to service student-athletes in every area of sports medicine. We're now more efficient, more acce sible and more effective in preventing and rehabilitating athletic injuries."

CRAIG thompson
Craig Thompson was the Mountain West Conference’s first employee when he was named commissioner on Oct. 15, 1998. Ever since, Thompson has navigated the newest NCAA Division I conference through the ever-changing landscape of intercollegiate athletics. As the league enters its 12th season of competition in 2010-11, Thompson continues to create and improve the opportunities for MWC institutions and studentathletes to be successful both academically and athletically. Since the Mountain West Conference opened its doors on January 4, 1999, Thompson has been committed to excellence in intercollegiate athletics, while promoting the academic missions of its member institutions. Progressive in its approach, the MWC has flourished under the guidance of Commissioner Thompson and continutes to cultivate opportunities for student-athletes to compete at the highest level, while fostering academic achievement and sportsmanship. He has been instrumental in negotiating nearly $230 million in television revenue and has been an innovator in the postseason bowl structure as MWC teams have participated in five inaugural bowl games. His leadership and vision have helped the conference enhance its television revenue and exposure through revolutionary agreements with CBS College Sports Network and Co cast to become the first collegiate athletic conference to launch a dedicated sports channel featuring exclusive programming around its nine athletic programs. Thompson has been instrumental in strengthening the position of the MWC in its current Bowl Championship Series (BCS) structure. In 2006, he spearheaded an effort that resulted in better access for the MWC and more than doubled the annual BCS revenue on an annual basis for non automatic-qualifying conferences. The MWC has been steadfast in its efforts to find a way to make the BCS system fair to all universities. Through its first 11 years of competition, the MWC has participated in 41 bowl games. For the third time in six years, the MWC posted the best win percentage among the 11 FBS conferences in 2009-10. The Mountain West claimed the 2009-10 Bowl Challenge Cup after sending five teams into postseason action and finishing with a 4-1 (.800) mark. Prior to his current role, Thompson served as the commissioner of the Sun Belt Conference for nearly eight years and as the only commissioner of the American South Conference prior to the merger of the two leagues in 1991. Thompson graduated from the University of Minnesota with an undergraduate degree in journalism. He and his wife, Carla, have a son (Ted) and a daughter (Emma).

2009-10 The Mountain West Conference was conceived on May 26, 1998, when the presidents of eight institutions -- Air Force, Brigham Young, Colorado State, New Mexico, San Diego State, UNLV, Utah and Wyoming -- decided to form a new NCAA FBS intercollegiate athletic conference. The split from the former 16-team WAC re-established continuity and stabi ity among the membership within the new league and signaled the continuation of its traditionrich, long-standing athletic rivalries. Five of the MWC’s eight members have been conference rivals since the 1960s (BYU, Utah, New Mexico, Wyoming and Colorado State), while San Diego State (1978) and Air Force (1980) were longtime members as well. UNLV and TCU entered the fold in 1996 and the Rebels continued as one of the original eight institutions that formed the MWC in 1999. TCU rejoined the group with its first year of competition in the Mountain West in 2005-06. On June 17, 2001, Commissioner Craig Thompson announced the addition of Boise State University to the MWC, effective July 1, 2011. From its inception in 1999, the Mountain West Conference has been committed to excellence in intercollegiate athletics, while promoting the academic missions of its member institutions. The Colorado Springs-based league is noted for its geographic diversity. Some of the most beautiful terrain and landscapes in the nation can be found within the Mountain West boundaries, including the majestic Rocky Mountain range, which borders four MWC schools (Utah, BYU, Air Force and Colorado State). The high plains of Wyoming (elevation 7,220 feet - the highest Division I campus in the nation) contrast with the de ert city of Las Vegas (the fastest growing metropolitan area in the West) and the Pacific locale of San Diego State. The southwestern flavor of New Mexico complements the wes ern heritage and culture of Fort Worth, Texas, home of TCU. MWC members have partic pated in 41 bowl games in 11 years, with eight of the nine schools earning at least one bid. The MWC has earned 50 postseason bids in men’s basketball, including 26 NCAA Tourn ment appearances and two NIT Final Four berths; while women’s basketball has tallied 51 postseason bids, inluding 29 NCAA bids, five Sweet 16 appearances and one Elite Eight berth since 2000. The MWC has sent at least 30 teams to NCAA postseason events each year while capturing three team and 24 individual championships in 11 years.

Since 2007, Bush has helped guide the program to 15 top-10 finishes in regular-season action and developed senior Therese Koelbaek into one of the n a t i o n’s best golfers. Joining Bush this season will be Kyle Helms. Helms is a 2007 graduate of the UNLV PGA Professional Golf Management program and has enjoyed success both as a player and professional on the golf world. “Kyle is a great asset to our program,” said Bush. “His experiences within the golf industries and mini-tours are a great asset to our program.” Helms brings a wealth of playing experience, having competed on both the Hooters Tour and the Carolinas Pro Golf Tour. He has served as an assistant golf professional at the Congressional Country Club, Bali Hai Golf Club and The Broadmoor Resort.

SENIORS
COACHES
The three-member senior class in 2010-11 has enjoyed some of the best seasons of golf in UNLV’s short 10-year program. “We have a very talented senior class,” said Bush. “Therese, Alejandra and Mandi all bring many years of experience to our team. They are proving to be great leaders both on and off the golf course.” Therese Koelbaek , the program’s second two-time All-American enters this season as arguably the best golfer in the Mountain West Conference and one of the nation’s top-ranked golfers as well. She finished second in the MWC in scoring last season with an average of 73.63, the third-lowest in school history. Posting five top-10 finishes a year ago and having totaled 16 for her career, Koelbaek will be looked upon to anchor this year’s squad as she continues to rewrite the Rebels’ record books. “Therese has been working hard on and off the golf course, added Bush.” “She has set outstanding goals for herself this year and I look forward to helping her obtain her goals. She is one of the best players in the conference and is always focused on the golf course and I am expecting great things for her this year.” Alejandra Guacaneme comes into the 2010-11 season carrying momentum from a strong spring last season. An everyday player, Guacaneme logged at least 32 rounds of play in a season for the third straight year and brings a wealth of playing experience, particularly in the postseason. Mandi Incorvaia rounds out the senior class for the Rebels, bringing great experience and a fearless attitude on the course to the team. After playing in 26 rounds in her first season in Las Vegas, she tied for 19th at the MWC Championships and was part of the UNLV squad that competed at the NCAA West Regional.
The Rebels’ junior class comprised of Kristin Schelling, Stephanie Whatley, Bethany Glassford and Victoria Oros bring a combined wealth of experience and a set of dynamic skills to the squad. Schelling, a veteran of 29 rounds played and the fourth-best scoring average a year ago, posted three top-20 finishes including back-to-back top-10’s at the UNLV Spring Invitational and Mountain View Collegiate. Her season-low round of 69 in the first round of the UNLV Spring Invitational helped the Rebels separate themselves from the field as they would go on to claim first place by a 12-stroke margin. "Our junior class will play an important role not only this season, but how the program develops and improves next season as well," said Bush. "I think what is most important to the success of this group is how they pick up on what needs to be done as far as leading the team, and with our seniors this year, they are learning first hand."

SOPHOMORE & FRESHMAN Glassford competed in 23 rounds as a sophomore, averaging a 78.35. Known for her distance off the tee, she will look to again crack the starting lineup on a weekly basis for the Rebels. Oros and Whatley each carded nine rounds during their second season in Las Vegas and will look to add depth to the UNLV lineup. The Rebels only carry two underclassmen on the roster, but both are capable of boosting a starting lineup and helping the team with low scores on a consistent basis. “Ellis and Katerina are great players and wonderful additions to our team,” said Bush. “Katerina has the opportunity to step right into our lineup and I am very excited to have Ellis working hard this year and playing well enough to make our lineup. These players are the future of our team.” Sophomore Ellis Keenan returns after a solid freshman campaign in which she carried a 75.93 scoring average in 15 rounds of action. The London, England native captured back-to-back top-25 finishes in her first two collegiate tournaments and carded her season-low mark of 72 in the final round of the prestigious Golfweek Conference Challenge, helping the Rebels to a top-10 finish in the process.

Freshman Katerina Prorokova brings a regimented and ready-to-play game to the squad this year. A smart player on the course, she is expected to compete immediately for a starting spot in the lineup and have an impact over the next four years for the Rebels. UNLV will look to make it nine straight NCAA Regional appearances in just their 10th season as a program. “UNLV women's golf celebrating their 10th anniversary is a big deal,” said Bush. “We have been fortunate to recruit some amazing student-athletes and have proven to the universities throughout the country we are able to play. This year will be a great celebration with more records for the history books.” The Rebels remarkable feat of eight straight appearances will be tested with a tough schedule this year. Following the season opener at the UNM Branch Law Firm/ Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., Sept. 17-18, the Rebels will head to Vail, Colo. For the prestigious Golfweek Conference Challenge Sept. 26-28. “We have a great schedule that will challenge our players,” added Bush. “We look forward to hosting two tournaments and having the home-course advantage.
