THE WORLD MEETS HERE

Omaha, Nebraska In the Heart of the U.S.

MEET KITANO HIROMICHI JAPAN I have been in ILUNO classes for three months and wish I could stay at UNO much longer. I hadn’t heard of Omaha before my friends told me about it, but now I never want to leave. When I came I couldn’t understand English speakers, but now I have confidence in my listening skills and I actually like talking in English. My teachers take time to answer our questions. They are all the greatest teachers I’ve ever met.

MEET ELSA FLORA SOMÉ BURKINO FASO I came to ILUNO to improve my English, but I have also made a lot of new friends and learned from other cultures. The classes are very interesting, the teachers are enthusiastic, and it is easy to learn. I plan to continue my studies in Computer Science in Omaha and eventually graduate from UNO with my bachelor’s degree. I am very thankful to all of my ILUNO teachers. It was a very awesome experience.

ABOUT THE ILUNO PROGRAM

BRIDGE PROGRAM

The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) has offered English as a Second Language to international students for 40 years.

The Bridge Program allows most undergraduate students with TOEFL scores of 48 or higher to take university coursework along with English as a Second Language classes. Students meet with ILUNO advisors and UNO faculty to select university courses suitable for their future educational plans.

INTENSIVE Students are in class 21 hours every week. Sessions last seven to eight weeks and are scheduled six times throughout the year.

PERSONALIZED New ILUNO students collaborate with program instructors to evaluate their English ability and select language classes at one of six levels - beginning to advanced. Experienced instructors teach reading and vocabulary, grammar and writing, listening, pronunciation, TOEFL preparation, and critical-thinking skills. Instructors are available daily to meet with students to discuss their class work, language skills, and future academic plans.

MIS S ION To provide a comprehensive, student-centered English as a Second Language program where students learn to communicate successfully in personal, professional, and academic environments.

ADVANTAGE TRACK The Advantage Track is offered to students who want to take undergraduate courses at UNO as an alternative to TOEFL. Students complete a series of required ILUNO courses and proficiency exams in college-level reading, writing, and verbal communication to successfully prepare them for undergraduate work.
