TECHADEMY Duration June - July Time 8:30am - 3:30pm Grades 5th - 10th Days Monday - Friday

Techademy provides workshops designed to show young students the fun in working with and creating information technology while also showing them potential careers in IT. Students have the opportunity to participate in handson activities while learning new concepts, tools, and skills. Workshop topics include cybersecurity, mobile application development, bioinformatics, innovation, and many others. Techademy + is a partnership between with Educational School Unit #3 (ESU #3). High ability learners enjoy full day workshops on Robotics, CyberSecurity, Bioinformatics, and IT Innovation during the school year.

iSTEM AFTER SCHOOL Duration August - May Time 3:30pm - 4:30pm Grades 5th - 8th Days Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday

Throughout the school year, the iSTEM Out of School Time program introduces students to computing concepts that encourage them to be creative, abstract, and innovative with technology. During classes like Scratch Programming, Mobile App Development, Robotics, and Bioinformatics, students are allowed to create technology and also continue working on projects in their own time. The iSTEM programs serve 5th through 8th grade students enrolled at Omaha Public Schools - Norris, Lewis & Clark, King Science, Nathan Hale, Indian Hills, Hartman, and Marrs. Sessions are taught by trained IS&T undergraduate and graduate students who have a passion for technology, ensuring that students of all ages have role models in IT.

CODECRUSH Duration Immersion Experience: One Fall and Spring experiences for 3 days and 2 nights Summer Summit: A day and a half during summer break Grades Immersion Experience: 8th - 9th Summer Summit: 9th - 12th

Launched in 2013, CodeCrush has grown to be the largest iSTEM immersion experience for 8th/9th grade girls and their mentor-teachers in the Midwest. CodeCrush consists of two immersion experiences and a summit that are designed to show participants the innovative world of IT. During the immersion experience the girls learn about a number of topics including IT innovation, bioinformatics, digital forensics, mobile app development, and much more. Teacher-mentors attend separate parallel sessions exposing them to various IT topics. By building a community of students, teachers, mentors and role models, CodeCrush works to bring more diversity to the IT landscape and empower everyone to close the IT gender gap.

The college offers a Summer High School Internship Program that gives students an innovative, hands-on experience directly in our research labs. Interns work alongside our faculty and students in areas such as robotics, bioinformatics, software engineering, cybersecurity, public health informatics, database-driven web development, IT innovation, open community participation research, music informatics, iOS/Android app development, gaming, and design thinking. Interns learn new concepts, work on research, and help solve complex software engineering problems.

IT INNOVATION CUP Duration October - April Grades 9th - 12th

The IT Innovation Cup is an annual competition for students from Nebraska and Iowa High Schools. Teams from schools compete each year to determine who can create the most innovative, creative and interesting technology-based solution for an assigned problem requirement. Some of the challenge problems in past years have included ‘Innovations in Computer-Augmented Decision Making’, ‘Geo-Spatial Augmented Reality Technology,’ and ‘Global Connectivity and the Internet of Things.’ The winning team is awarded the IT Innovation Cup (a traveling trophy) for their school and cash prize of $2,500 ($1,000 for second place, $500 for third place). Each high school team can have one to three faculty coaches, and each team coach receives an honorarium of $200 and free tuition to one IT Professional Development Workshop. All participating students receive free tuition to one Techademy summer workshops and an IS&T t-shirt.
