Butterfly Card Making Project

MATERIALS USED: Inktense Blocks: Bright Blue, Fuchsia 3 pieces of blank card (pearlescent has been used for this project) Scrap piece of card Silver pearl paper Derwent Grate ‘n’ Shake 2 misting bottles Trimmer Butterfly punch Craft knife Paper stump Glitter / clear varnish spray Mask (for this project we have used a flower mask) Strong adhesive Silver (peel off) greeting Peel off glitter borders stickers Foam pads Small and large gems
PREPARATION Before you start you need to prepare two misting sprays. Using the Grate ‘n’ Shake, add water to the container, grate your desired Inktense Block colour into the water and then give it a gentle shake to mix the colour and water together to make paint. Decant the paint into a misting bottle. Repeat this for the other colour. You will be using this paint for the masking technique. For this card you will need two complimentary colours.

1 Take a piece of card and cut around the edges so when placed on top of the other piece of card a border is created. A corner trimmer has been used to round the corners of both cards.
4 With the third piece of card (remember to round the edges), place on a protective background and place a mask over it (you can buy masks of all different patterns, they are easy to find online).

2 On a scrap piece of card, using a craft knife, scrape some of the colour from your two chosen Inktense Blocks (Bright Blue and Fuchsia have been used for this project) onto the card. Using your fingers or a paper stump pick up the colour and rub it onto the smaller piece of card you have just trimmed to create a cloud effect. Keep hold of the scrap piece of card for a later step.
3 Place the card on a protective background and spray with a glitter varnish or clear varnish spray, whichever you prefer. This gives a nice finish and also seals the colour in place as it was applied dry. An iridescent glitter varnish was used in this project.
5 Take the misting sprays you prepared and at a distance spray them over the mask covered card. Leave it to dry a little and then lift the mask off the card. Leave the card to fully dry, it may have warped slightly as it has been quite wet, try popping it under your cutting mat or similar to get it back in shape (only do this when completely dry).

6 Using your butterfly punch and the silver pearl paper punch out 4 butterflies.
9 Take your silver (peel off) greeting and apply to the bottom right hand corner of the card, at an angle.

Go back to your scrap piece of card with your Inktense colours on and with a damp finger or paper stump pick up the colour and apply to the wings of the butterflies. When you have done this spray with either glitter or clear varnish to seal and give a nice finish.
Take the blank card and stick the two cards that have been prepared onto it. Use a suitable strong adhesive.

Along the left hand side of the card, decorate by adding two glitter border peel off stickers or if you like you could add strips of ribbon which can be coloured using your Inktense blocks.
Using small foam pads stick your butterflies on in which ever arrangement you prefer. For this project a few small adhesive gems have been added to the body of each butterfly and one large gem near the greeting to add the finishing touches to the card.
