Boxes for Break

PAY IT FORWARD THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

This month, the Maverick Food Pantry is excited to host the first annual Boxes for Break event! Students, faculty, and staff who are in need are invited to come fill up a box with food to help keep their cupboards stocked while the pantry is closed over Winter Break.

Regular business hours, Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm, resume on January 2. If you are in need of help, The Counseling Center has provided these resources: Heartland Family Service 402-553-3000 Lutheran Family Services 402-342-7007 Jewish Family Service 402-330-2024

Wednesday, Decemer 18 trhough Friday, December 20 Open 11:00 am to 2:00 pm each day

Please note that dialing 2-1-1 from any phone will provide assistance in accessing resources. The holidays are often as stressful as they are fun. If you anticipate a difficult holiday season, make sure to reach out to your support system and ask for additional care. This could be in the form of spending more time together or simply calling/texting more often. Also, consider taking breaks from family and friends if you feel the need to decompress. Too often we put pressure on ourselves during the holidays to move from one obligation to the next and lose sight of our need for quiet reflection. It may also help to keep your sleep schedule as regular as possible. Get those eight hours of sleep a night that you might have missed during the semester! Finally, regular exercise and reasonable nutrition in the face of all the extra holiday goodies go a long way in helping to make the season merrier instead of stressful. The Counseling Center wishes you a restful, relaxing, and rejuvenating holiday break!

RSVP today to let us know that you plan on stopping by to stuff your own box, but know that pre-made boxes will also be available. All RSVPs are confidential. If you are unable to come between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm, you can arrange another time to pick up a box by messaging the Maverick Food Pantry through MavSYNC or sending an email to unomavfoodpantry@unomaha.edu. About the Maverick Food Pantry Located on MBSC first floor, the Maverick Food Pantry is open to all currently enrolled UNO students, faculty, and staff. Anyone with an active MavCard can request a bag of nonperishable food up to twice per week. Request a package by accessing the confidential Request Form HERE. Additional Resources Here are some additional resources in Omaha. For food assistance while the pantry is closed, and for perishable food choices, check out the Maverick Food Pantry’s Files page where you’ll find a list of food pantries not far from UNO, as well as a general resource guide for the greater Omaha area.
